Download or read book MY DETERMINED SPIRIT written by Christy Tran with Patti Dobbe and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I met Christy Tran, whom I know as Victoria, in 2001, when she became my hairdresser, after I had moved from Austin, Texas, to Amarillo, Texas. Over the years we visited while she worked to make me presentable to rest of the world. During our talks she slowly began sharing the details of her life in Vietnam during the infamous war years. I became fascinated with her story. Some of her experiences seemed unbelievable; however, the fervor with which she spoke told me it was all true. She lived a life that only a few people could truly understand. She endured the horrors of war and bears witness to the terrible things that human beings can do to one another. Yet her story is also one of survival. Not only did she survive the war, she survived the torturous escape from her homeland as one of the "boat people" of the 1970s. Her story does not end as refugee but it is one of victory and finding a new country to call her own. I was intrigued and amazed at my friend's determination and courage in face of fear, devastation, isolation, and hopelessness. She has taught me that the problems I face in day to day life can be overcome with faith and fortitude. This is Christy's story, as she told it to me over the course of three years - as she has lived it over the course of 53 years.
Download or read book Sacred Pace written by Terry Looper and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we hear from God and discern His will when it’s time to make big decisions? Terry Looper shares a four-step process for doing just that - a process he has learned and refined over thirty years as a Christian entrepreneur and founder of a multi-billion dollar company. At just thirty-six years old, Terry Looper was a successful Christian businessman who thought he had it all—until managing all he had led to a devastating burnout. Wealthy beyond his wildest dreams but miserable beyond belief, Terry experienced a radical transformation when he discovered how to align himself with God’s will in the years following his crash and burn. Sacred Pace is a four-step process that helps Christians in all walks of life learn how to slow down their decision-making under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, sift through their surface desires and sinful patterns in order to receive clear, peace-filled answers from the Lord, gain the confident assurance that God’s answers are His way of fulfilling the true desires he has placed in their hearts, and grow closer to the One who loves them most and knows them best. Sacred Pace is not another example of name-it-and-claim-it materialism in disguise. Instead, it walks Christians through the sometimes-painful process of “dying to self” in their decisions, both big and small, so that they desire God’s will more than their own.
Download or read book A Determined Spirit written by Gary F. Heuer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-02-18 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine what you would do if your brother died at a very young age, and then your father died just a few years later. What if your family struggled financially for years because your father had no insurance. His death resulted in you having to move and live in a motel near your new high school, and you had to buy meals at the local diner because your mother was hundreds of miles away. Further, your mother suddenly decided to move you, at age fifteen, to Germany, where you couldn’t meet the basic requirements needed to attend school at your grade level. Suppose then, you decided to come back to America on your own accord, at age sixteen, and make your way with no family to support you. What would be your chances of making it on your own, let alone achieving success? This is a brief glimpse into Gary Heuer’s childhood. Fortunately, he did survive. He joined the army and overcame his family and life’s challenges. This all happened because his family never prepared for the contingencies of life. There was no insurance, no savings, and no planning. With this realization, Gary decided to become a financial advisor with one of the largest Christian-based insurance companies in America. His story of overcoming life’s obstacles and achieving success is one of courage, stamina, and perseverance. His autobiography is an in-depth look at what happens to a family when tragedy strikes, not once or twice, but multiple times. His heartbreaking story of endurance and steadfastness is one that can inspire and motivate any reader to stay the course and work through their issues. His story shows what a determined spirit can accomplish, if you never give up.

Download or read book More Than a Healer written by Costi W. Hinn and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does healing fit into God's will, especially when God doesn't heal? Our hearts, our bodies, and our world are desperate for healing. We all experience brokenness, and we rightfully look to Jesus for restoration. But many Christians have been taught the lie that God will heal us if our faith is strong enough, and that he is punishing us when bad things happen. Growing up in one of the world's leading faith-healing dynasties, Costi Hinn witnessed the tragedy of people chasing after healing more than the Healer. In this book he provides biblical clarity to some of the most challenging questions of the Christian faith. Does grace guarantee healing? How do we catch ourselves from slipping into the trap of seeking God for what he can do for us and not for who he really is? Beginning with the vivid memory of the night he discovered his son's cancer diagnosis—Costi unpacks the layered feelings and questions we have about God and his healing power, and he provides practical principles for growing closer to Jesus. With gentle clarity and biblical wisdom, he explains how to: Faithfully pray for healing while trusting in God's sovereignty. Navigate tough conversations about the topics of divine healing, love, and justice. Hold on to faith even in the most painful trials. More than chasing after the Jesus we want, this hopeful and encouraging book will guide you to discovering the Jesus we truly need—and the true power and hope that comes from a genuine relationship with him.

Download or read book How to Pray written by Pete Greig and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pete Greig is a worldwide authority and the face of a generation when it comes to prayer. One of the founders of the 24-7 prayer movement, he has seen, experienced, and chronicled amazing works of God in the world. While you might imagine him to be puffed up, Pete Greig is entirely the opposite. He is enchanting, down-to-earth, friendly, and most of all, very normal–and yet he tells preposterous tales about prayer (and they’re true). He is basically a regular dude who loves to talk with God. How to Pray is written to evoke a passion for prayer in everyone—the committed follower of Jesus as well as the skeptic and the scared. The enormous blessing of How to Pray is that it is accessible, full of surprising stories of answered prayer, and tremendously engaging. The basic idea is that prayer is a conversation between you and God. Pete Greig demystifies and reenchants prayer, helping you to find prayer achievable and enjoyable, and ultimately life-giving and life-changing. How to Pray is designed to be used together with The Prayer Course (a free video curriculum associated with the Alpha course), making it useful for personal and group or church-wide reading.
Download or read book So Help Me God written by Andrew Venn and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many decades, mankind has become more conscious and responsible about the need to recycle. It is my belief that mankind itself has been recycled since the creation of the world, but who am I to declare that? Im not a professor of science; neither am I somebody who is familiar (or should be!) with a padded cell. I am merely a young (all right, middle-aged!) man that experienced near death but survived to tell his story of his world and visions witnessed/seen while in a coma, the relevance of them now, and my thoughts about our future existence. I do not have delusions; neither am I a fantasist. I am as sane as the next man (you ask my pet elephant). Mind you, it depends on who the next man is! Reliving my story has been very intriguing and interesting, and it has developed in me a greater understanding and appreciation of life. Previously unexplainable imagery seen while in a coma was later recognized. But how can I survive this, and in what condition will I emerge? The thoughts and ideas that I express are not intended to offend, and I apologize to anyone who is offended by my words. I am certainly not a preacher; neither do I seek pity.
Download or read book Word Spirit Power written by R. T. Kendall and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proven Formula for a Balanced, Effective Christian Life Too often churches emphasize the Bible without welcoming the work of the Holy Spirit, who inspired the Bible. Or they focus on seeking manifestations of the Spirit while neglecting sound Bible teaching. The result: a schism in their faith lives in which they cut God--and his power--out of Christianity's equation. How can God draw a lost world to his Son through people who are powerless? With over 170 years of diverse ministry experience among them, respected veteran leaders R. T. Kendall, Charles Carrin, and Jack Taylor restore balance to the Christian walk. They show that when the Word is faithfully preached and the Holy Spirit warmly welcomed, the Lord manifests his power, bringing salvation, miracles, healings, heart understanding, and much more. Only when Christians honor the Word and the Spirit can they lead empowered, fruitful lives.
