Book My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family

Download or read book My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family written by Loraine C. Hartley and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS BOOK I S RIDICULOUS! IT IS A FUNNY, EMOTIONAL, AND INSPIRING STORY ABOUT ME AND MY FAMILY MEMBERS, OLD, NEW, AND ALL –INCLUSIVE. The title, “My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family,” got stuck inside my head and refused to go away, so I decided to write a book. Once I started, I could not stop, so I kept writing, and this compelling story was unwrapped. The book begins in 1972 when my dad created a “blended family” by getting married a second time, to a woman who had a daughter from a previous marriage. It ends in 2019 when he died, at the ripe old age of 93. We each chose our own paths, as we were forced to navigate our individual ways through the next generation of divorce and deception. I chose Jesus Christ to lead me through the failures in my life, and I discovered that by doing what the Bible told me to do in each situation, I was able to turn my failures into successes. Many people who know me wanted to hear my story, and suggested that I put my experiences to words, and share them with the world, so I did.

Book Delightfully Terrible

Download or read book Delightfully Terrible written by Allen L. Perry and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I know God still speaks to His children today. He has spoken in the past, He still speaks today, and will continue speaking in the future to anyone. Throughout my Christian life, God has spoken to me. He speaks through His Word, His Holy Spirit's gifts of utterance, preachers/teachers, dreams, my spouse and friends, through songs and music, subtle impulses, and through dramatic experiences. Once He has my attention, He will do everything necessary to impress upon my spirit the things He wants to teach me. Next to learning how to recognize His voice, the recurring theme has been that He is teaching me the importance of obedience! He wants me to stop and "... wait upon the Lord." Next, He wants me to listen to what He is saying to say to me, because, "... my sheep know my voice..." He wants me to follow Him since "...He [already] knows the way that I take..." And finally, He asks me to be faithful and obedient because "... For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is." Submit your life to Jesus Christ, and allow Him to be your Lord. He will speak His will for your life in clear, undeniable ways.

Even if she pulls off the impossible and fools the world, would the indomitable Miss Gloria Meadows ever allow Sheri to marry her son and possibly inherit a share of her vast fortune? Download or read book A Call to Resurgence written by Mark Driscoll and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s tempting to believe that the Christian faith is alive and well in our country today. Our politicians talk about God. Our mega-churches are filled. Christian schools dot our landscape. Brace yourself. It’s an illusion. Believe it or not, only 8 percent of Americans profess and practice true evangelical Christian faith. There are more left-handed people than evangelical Christians in America. In this book, Mark Driscoll delivers a wake-up call for every believer: We are living in a post-Christian culture—a culture fundamentally at odds with faith in Jesus. This is good and bad news. The good news is that God is still working, redeeming people from this spiritual wasteland and inspiring a resurgence of faithful believers. The bad news is that many believers just don’t get it. They continue to gather exclusively into insular tribes, lobbing e-bombs at each other in cyberspace. Mark’s book is a clarion call for Christians. It’s time to get to work. We can only do this if we unite around Jesus and the essentials found in his Word, while at the same time, appreciating the distinctives within each Christian tribe. Mark shows us how to do just that. This isn’t the time to wait or debate. Join the resurgence.

Book Hollywood Park

Download or read book Hollywood Park written by Mikel Jollett and published by Celadon Books. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER** “A Gen-X This Boy’s Life...Music and his fierce brilliance boost Jollett; a visceral urge to leave his background behind propels him to excel... In the end, Jollett shakes off the past to become the captain of his own soul. Hollywood Park is a triumph." —O, The Oprah Magazine "This moving and profound memoir is for anyone who loves a good redemption story." —Good Morning America, 20 Books We're Excited for in 2020 "Several years ago, Jollett began writing Hollywood Park, the gripping and brutally honest memoir of his life. Published in the middle of the pandemic, it has gone on to become one of the summer’s most celebrated books and a New York Times best seller..." –Los Angeles Magazine HOLLYWOOD PARK is a remarkable memoir of a tumultuous life. Mikel Jollett was born into one of the country’s most infamous cults, and subjected to a childhood filled with poverty, addiction, and emotional abuse. Yet, ultimately, his is a story of fierce love and family loyalty told in a raw, poetic voice that signals the emergence of a uniquely gifted writer. We were never young. We were just too afraid of ourselves. No one told us who we were or what we were or where all our parents went. They would arrive like ghosts, visiting us for a morning, an afternoon. They would sit with us or walk around the grounds, to laugh or cry or toss us in the air while we screamed. Then they’d disappear again, for weeks, for months, for years, leaving us alone with our memories and dreams, our questions and confusion. ... So begins Hollywood Park, Mikel Jollett’s remarkable memoir. His story opens in an experimental commune in California, which later morphed into the Church of Synanon, one of the country’s most infamous and dangerous cults. Per the leader’s mandate, all children, including Jollett and his older brother, were separated from their parents when they were six months old, and handed over to the cult’s “School.” After spending years in what was essentially an orphanage, Mikel escaped the cult one morning with his mother and older brother. But in many ways, life outside Synanon was even harder and more erratic. In his raw, poetic and powerful voice, Jollett portrays a childhood filled with abject poverty, trauma, emotional abuse, delinquency and the lure of drugs and alcohol. Raised by a clinically depressed mother, tormented by his angry older brother, subjected to the unpredictability of troubled step-fathers and longing for contact with his father, a former heroin addict and ex-con, Jollett slowly, often painfully, builds a life that leads him to Stanford University and, eventually, to finding his voice as a writer and musician. Hollywood Park is told at first through the limited perspective of a child, and then broadens as Jollett begins to understand the world around him. Although Mikel Jollett’s story is filled with heartbreak, it is ultimately an unforgettable portrayal of love at its fiercest and most loyal.

This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As usual Lowell Green, one of Canada's best selling authors and the Country's most honoured broadcaster, rushes in where angels fear to tread! His latest book, (his sixth best seller) "Here's proof only we conservatives have our heads screwed on straight" makes you shake your head with disbelief as writes about the truly magnificent screw-ups the granola-crunching, tree hugging, thug huggers have plunged us into over the years. "Thank heavens," he says, "that with people like Churchill, Thatcher, Reagan, Giuliani, Merkel, Harris and hopefully Harper and maybe even Cameron, there's almost always been a clear-thinking, fearless, principled Conservative or conservative thinker to rescue us from left wing lunacy and economic chaos." Fresh from the incredible success of his most recent book, "Mayday! Mayday! Curb immigration. Stop multiculturalism, or it's the end of the Canada we know," Green's latest work unleashes a firestorm of wit, wisdom and common sense that is bound to delight, titillate, entertain and educate all those who don't believe group hugs and long walks on lonely beaches with our enemies will solve the world's problems. If there is any doubt in anyone's mind whether they should buy "Here's Proof," there's a dandy little quiz in the first few pages that provides guidance and hopefully assistance to prevent severe trauma to delicate liberal and socialist sensitilities!
