Book No Child Left Alone

Download or read book No Child Left Alone written by Abby W. Schachter and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncle Sam is the worst helicopter parent in America. Children are taken from their parents because they are obese. Parents are arrested for letting their children play outside alone. Sledding and swaddling are banned. From games to school to breast-feeding to daycare, the overbearing bureaucratic state keeps getting between kids and their parents. The state’s safety, hygiene, and health regulations rule, and the government’s judgment may not coincide with yours. Which foods and drinks to send to school, what toys to buy, whether to breast- or bottle-feed babies are all choices that used to be left to you and me. Not anymore. As a mom to four kids, I should be used to it, but I’m not. All the government-mandated parenting gets under my skin. And I’m not alone. No Child Left Alone explores the growing problem of an intrusive, interfering government and highlights those parents—all the Captain Mommies and Captain Daddies across America—fighting to take back control over their families.

This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book Now It s My Turn

Download or read book Now It s My Turn written by Mary Cheney and published by Pocket Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In what is sure to be one of the most talked about political memoirs of the year, Mary Cheney, who served as a top campaign aide to her father, US Vice President Dick Cheney, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the high intensity world of American presidential politicking and presents her account of what it was like to become an issue in the 2004 campaign. Cheney first campaigned with her father when she was eight years old. In the last two presidential campaigns, she was in the middle of every major event at the highest level - at the conventions, the debates, the controversies and on the trail. Both elections made history - and so did Mary. Now for the first time she writes about what it was like to be involved in her father's campaigns as a family memeber, a staffer and, although she never intended it, as a political target for the other side. Frank, funny, down-to-earth, Mary Cheney tells her own story amazing story in her own words.
