Download or read book My Journey with Long Covid written by Mirko Niederprüm and published by via tolino media. This book was released on 2023-03-02 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through my own experiences with Long Covid, I have learned the importance of listening to my body's needs and not pushing myself too hard. I have also learned how crucial it is to receive good medical care and how challenging it can be to obtain it at times. However, through my support group and exchanging with other Long Covid patients, I was able to focus on the positive aspects of life and concentrate on my recovery. We supported and motivated each other and shared information on what we could do to alleviate our symptoms and improve our lives. I encourage all Long Covid patients not to be discouraged and to focus on their recovery. Together, we can support each other. As a Long Covid patient, I want to encourage others and emphasize the importance of paying attention to this disease. Long Covid is a serious illness that is often not fully understood. It is important that we support each other and listen to the experiences of others to better manage our symptoms. Supporting each other and raising awareness of this illness can help others understand how serious it is and how important it is to treat it.

Evelyn, his wife, shares how the persistent prayers of their family and faith community reawakened him to another chance at life. Book A Journey Round My Room

Download or read book A Journey Round My Room written by Xavier de Maistre and published by . This book was released on 1871 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1790, Xavier de Maistre was 27 years old, and a soldier in the army of the Sardinian Kingdom, which covered swathes of modern-day Northern Italy and Southern France. He was placed under house-arrest in Turin for fighting an illegal duel. It was during the 42 days of his confinement here that he wrote the manuscript that would become Voyage autour de ma chambre. Inspired by the works of Laurence Sterne, with their digressive and colloquial style, de Maistre decided to make the most of his sentence by recording an exploration of the room as a travel journal. de Maistre’s book imbues the tour of his chamber with great mythology and grand scale. As he wanders the few steps that it takes to circumnavigate the space, his mind spins off into the ether. It parodies the travel journals of the eighteenth-century (such as A Voyage Around the World by Louis de Bougainville, 1771), and could be read today as an early take on the modern vogue for “psychogeography” — each tiny thing that he encounters sends de Maistre into rhapsodies, and mundane journeys become magnificent voyages.

Book Cabin Fever

Download or read book Cabin Fever written by Michael Smith and published by Doubleday. This book was released on 2022-06-21 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true story of the Holland America cruise ship Zaandam, which set sail with a deadly and little-understood stowaway—COVID-19—days before the world shut down in March 2020. This riveting narrative thriller takes readers behind the scenes with passengers and crew who were caught unprepared for the deadly ordeal that lay ahead. In early 2020, the world was on edge. An ominous virus was spreading on different continents, and no one knew what the coming weeks would bring. Far from the hot spots, the cruise ship Zaandam, owned by Holland America, was preparing to sail from Buenos Aires, Argentina, loaded with 1,200 passengers—Americans, Europeans and South Americans, plus 600 crew. Most passengers were over the age of sixty-five. There was concern about the virus on the news, and it had already killed and sickened passengers on other Holland America ships. But that was oceans away, and escaping to sea at the ends of the earth for a few weeks seemed like it might be a good option. The cruise line had said the voyage (three weeks around the South American coastline to see some of the world’s most stunning natural wonders and ancient ruins) would carry on as scheduled, with no refunds. And it would be safe. Among the travelers there is a retired American school superintendent on a dream vacation with his wife of fifty-six years, on a personal quest to see Machu Picchu. There is an Argentine psychologist taking this trip to celebrate her sixty-fourth birthday with her husband, though she finds herself fretting in her cabin on day one, trying to dismiss her fears of what she’s hearing on the news. There is an Indonesian laundry manager who's been toiling on Holland America cruise ships for thirty years, sending his monthly paycheck to his family back home. Within days, people aboard Zaandam begin to fall sick. The world’s ports shut down. Zaandam becomes a top story on the news and is denied safe harbor everywhere. With only two doctors aboard and few medical supplies to test for or treat COVID-19, and with dwindling food and water, the ship wanders the oceans on an unthinkable journey.

Book Contemporary Developments and Perspectives in International Health Security

Download or read book Contemporary Developments and Perspectives in International Health Security written by Stanislaw P. Stawicki and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International health security (IHS) is a broad and highly heterogeneous area. Within this general context, IHS encompasses subdomains that potentially influence (and more specifically endanger) the well-being and wellness of humans. The general umbrella of IHS includes, but is not limited to, natural disasters, emerging infectious diseases (EID) and pandemics, rapid urbanization, social determinants of health, population growth, systemic racism and discrimination, environmental matters, civilian violence and warfare, various forms of terrorism, misuse of antibiotics, and the misuse of social media. The need for this expanded definition of health security stems from the realization that topics such as EID; food, water, and pharmaceutical supply chain safety; medical and health information cybersecurity; and bioterrorism, although important within the overall realm of health security, are not only able to actively modulate the wellness and health of human populations, but also tend to do so in a synergistic fashion. This inaugural tome of a multi-volume collection, Contemporary Developments and Perspectives in International Health Security, introduces many of the topics directly relevant to modern IHS theory and practice. This first volume provides a solid foundation for future installments of this important and relevant book series.
