He’s been mourning ever since, and he seeks to cope with his loss in this tribute to his beloved spouse. In My Connie, he celebrates their love—a love that would have never happened if he hadn’t left India to go to the United States. Book excerpt: The names on the cast-bronze plaques hanging in the National Baseball Hall of Fame embody the history and drama of the sport--they are the royalty of baseball. Yet many inductees believed their entry into the Hall was anything but guaranteed, and even some who waited by the phone for the fateful "call to the Hall" were stunned to hear the news. Reactions to the call varied from stoicism to overwhelming emotion, but for most of the 31 inductees interviewed in this book, it was a moment of reflection and gratitude. In other cases, the call came years too late and family members received the posthumous honor.

Book My Life Connected

Download or read book My Life Connected written by Vera Chvany Hussey-Forbes and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an early age, author Vera Chvany Hussey-Forbes knew her mother didn't want her. When her parents divorced, Vera's mother began a campaign to obliterate the child with a concentrated regimen of emotional abuse. Thus began Vera's two-layered existence. In My Life, Connected, she narrates the story of her life, beginning with the ways that the trauma affected her. Vera shares how her mother made her feel like she was ugly, untalented, and unlovable, and how Vera's first husband later followed suit, never appreciating her for who she was. In her memoir, Vera describes how she overcame the negative treatment to become the best in everything she had to offer as a painter, singer, songwriter, actress, lover, and mother of three sons. She discusses the highs and lows as she experienced operas and orgies; dead pigeons and paralysis; ballet and bats; fleas, a fish run, and fire; and lovers and laughter. Honest and unabashed, My Life, Connected tells how Vera's friendly disposition and curious personality enabled her to conquer abuse, make connections, and form incredible friendships with people from all walks of life.

Book excerpt: Dale was seventeen when the Second World War had finally ended. After the end of the war, he eagerly set his sights on higher learning and began to pursue his own lofty personal goals, in a peacetime America. In 1950, after the Korean War erupted into the lives of the, still battle-weary people of the United States, young men were targeted, once again, by the United States Military. Dale had just turned twenty-two years old. Much attention has been given, of late, to letters written by the men who served in the Armed Forces, of the United States, this past century. I believe that in my letters, written by a raw young sailor, Krug to Princess, one might be able to gain much insight, on what many of the young men, like Dale, went through in those uncertain times. Dale labored to write Connie a daily letter. Depending on circumstances, he sometimes could only write every two or three days, but most of the time he maintained his daily schedule, of notes and letters. Some of Krugs letters, from the war zone, were lost before they reached me, but because of the frequency of his writing, most came through to me. So, even though a few letters were lost, I still have a steady diary, of Krugs day-to-day activities in his first year of life in the Navy, at the beginning of the Korean War. Dale dedicated himself to motivate me to, want to, wait for him to come home to our marriage, by keeping my interest in him, alive. He worked hard, to make his beautiful love notes, both interesting and informative in reading content.
