Book Thanks for the Mammaries

Download or read book Thanks for the Mammaries written by Kate Gale and published by Ocean Reeve Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thanks for the Mammaries is an honest recount of author Kate Gale's journey with cancer. After being diagnosed at the young age of twenty-seven with breast cancer, she fought a hard, uphill battle, stared it in the eye, and won. Life was getting back to normal when tragedy struck Kate's young family again, when her husband was diagnosed with renal cancer five years later. What followed was the biggest curveball that Kate had been handed to date when roles were reversed, and she was sitting on the other side of a cancer diagnosis. It opened her eyes to life, what was important, who was important, and which direction she wanted to go in. Kate had now seen both sides of the disease, from two different perspectives, and knew that she had to break down the barriers that surrounded cancer. Her positive, inspiring, and honest attitude towards her battles are not only refreshing, but something that will leave you wondering what is important to you. Kate shows you how dreaming big, giving back, and having a never give up kind of attitude can turn a negative into a positive whilst continuing to smile.

Book excerpt: This book is me – talking to you. It’s not grammatically correct – I fragment a lot. It probably has some errors – I’m not perfect and neither is this book. It certainly is not politically correct and may even offend some people. I tell it like it is, as I have always done. You rarely have to wonder where I stand on something – I have an opinion on almost everything. I have written this in my style – like I’m sitting next to you in the same room telling you my story. I was diagnosed with Stage III cancer in November, 2008. I experienced a short period of remission until my Stage IV – terminal diagnosis in February, 2010. This book covers the period of my initial diagnosis to where I am now in May, 2010. Cancer is a dirty word! I have accepted that I will probably die from cancer. I have not accepted that my life is over. This book is intended as a gift. A gift from me to the reader. I’m not telling anyone how to do this or that they should handle it the way I am approaching it. It’s just my story of how I am dealing with it and attempting to turn devastation into opportunity. Every dollar we bring in with the sale of this book will go towards my dream project – My Sister’s Place, Too – a transitional housing program for women and children who have made the decision to leave their abusive situations and start a new life. There is a chapter devoted to this project. You can help me achieve my dream by purchasing this book for yourself or better yet as a thoughtful gift for anyone on the cancer journey.

  • Pages : 451 pages

Download or read book My Battles with Cancer written by Cheds and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you or someone you love is diagnosed with cancer it feels like your whole world is falling apart. Not knowing what will happen next is terrifying, and that is the main reason I wrote this book, hoping that my experience could help others. The first title of this book was, "My body is weak but my mind is strong", starting out as a story about my personal battle with cancer, and that was the mantra I used to hype myself up before my final chemotherapy session. Unfortunately, someone close to me was also diagnosed with cancer before I could finish that story, so I went through the process of becoming a cancer caregiver. Thus the new title for this book was born, "My Battles with Cancer", reflecting my journey as as both a cancer patient and caregiver. All throughout the writing and editing process there was a fire burning in my mind, pushing me to keep chipping away every day, and telling me to have faith in the idea that eventually it would all come together. During my hospital visits and everywhere else I went, I took notes and churned out ideas in the back of my mind, as I continued to ponder the greater questions from my patient and caregiver journey with this book in mind. Now, exactly two years to the day since my last cancer treatment I am publishing this book, ready to share with the world my journey, and ready to move on to some new and exciting adventures. It is my great pleasure to share with you now some of the high and low points I went through in my journey as a cancer patient and caregiver. My hope is that by sharing my stories and observations along the way, it may help other people with their learning curve. Good luck with your battles, Cheds

Book Me and My Shadow

Download or read book Me and My Shadow written by John Walker Pattison and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-31 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Me and My Shadow – Memoirs of a Cancer Survivor is a brutally honest account of one teenager’s struggle to understand and deal with the most feared diagnosis known to society: cancer. At 18 years of age, John Walker Pattison was thrust onto a roller coaster ride of emotional turbulence – his innocence cruelly stripped from him; his fate woven into the tapestry of life. After years of failed chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments that ravaged his physical frame and almost destroyed his psychological stability – his parents were told that he would not survive. Yet, today, he is one of the longest surviving cancer patients in the UK. Eight years after his unexpected recovery, the news that all parents fear, his daughter is diagnosed with terminal leukaemia. Yet like her father, she too would defy the odds and go on to become an international swimmer. Pattison turned his life full circle and became a cancer nurse specialist at the same hospital that made his diagnosis decades earlier. He prescribes chemotherapy and cares for individuals with the same cancers experienced by both him and his daughter. Throughout his journey, Pattison’s inspirations were the space rock legends, Hawkwind. He would get to play on stage with his heroes at the Donnington Festival in 2007. More significantly, he found solace throughout his cancer journey in the history and spirituality of the Lakota Sioux Nation. In 2018, he would spend time on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with the indigenous people of South Dakota. The same people who, unknowingly, supported him through life's greatest challenge: cancer.

In Talk Cancer to Me, author Jessica Lynne DeCristofaro confesses the initial terror at her unexplained symptoms, the mounting stress as none out of myriad different specialists could help her. Finally, after landing in urgent care, she is officially diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, an aggressive type of cancer. But she's determined to beat it. Book excerpt: I think I should start with my name, my name is Spencer William Porter and I am the proud son of Emma Kate Porter. The story of how this wonderful book came about is quite incredible. I remember it distinctively, it was a hot summer Christmas day in Australia and I was around 14 years old at the time. Now, Christmas for me was always a time I wondered what it would be like to wake up, walk down the stairs and be greeted by mum and dad at the Christmas tree - I'm not saying that my Christmas was ever bad or not enjoyable, because I was always greeted with amazing gifts and the lovingness of my family growing up. Though one Christmas stands out with hindsight as one of the best. I say this because on Christmas morning my Dad approached me with a cassette tape ( me having no idea what a cassette tape ) - now at the time my Dad's car still had a cassette tape player, so he asked me to sit down in the car and listen to what he had found. The tape was titled 'My Cancer, My Miracle' and the title was something that truly intrigued me. I pressed play as Dad walked away, and to my surprise, it was my mother's voice, her real voice, she truly sounded like she was sitting next to me... Before I knew it, I had tears dripping down my face without even thinking about it, she started the tape with talking about how she wanted to write a book - and that book, she wanted to be published one day after she passed away. She articulated that her hands weren't strong enough to write with, so she was going to record it via tape in hope that someone could write it for her. That person was me, so if you're ready to shed a few tears or many - then buy this book...

Book My Cancer My Cure

Download or read book My Cancer My Cure written by Mindy Lee and published by . This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we look around us, we see illness and disease everywhere. Whether it be heart disease, auto-immune disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, a tumor, or a silent illness such as IBS, Crohn's disease, diabetes, asthma, chronic fatigue, depression, or something as simple as the aging process, we all have or know someone that has a body that is in an "imbalanced" state and suffering. "My Cancer, My Cure," is my journey to optimal health after being diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, a terminal blood cancer in 2009. I went through all the same emotions most cancer patients go through. The denial, the hate, the pity and the depression. I not only was sick and weak, I was in a state of mind that I felt I almost couldn't get out of. Then just before Christmas that year, I remember being wrapped in a blanket, sitting by the fire, trying to keep my bones warm thinking, this is just not right. How could the Lord want this for me? I saw the scared look in my children's eyes as they saw me melting away to just skin and bones. How could I do that to them or to my husband? They didn't deserve that. They had been nothing but supportive through all my illness and they didn't deserve to have to bury me. I didn't deserve that. I wasn't a bad person. I spent my whole life trying to do for others, but maybe that was the point. I needed to fix what was broken "my spirit" so I could continue to help others. With a diagnosis of no hope, I had forgotten what was really important in life. I was letting the word "cancer" take over my very being. I had forgotten who I was and I was letting my spirit die. I was "Mindy," I was a "fighter," I was not a "disease." So I got on my computer and started reading everything I could find about this cancer of mine. I decided to write this book entitled, "My Cancer, My Cure" because the information I have found on this journey of mine applies to everyone. It's the information and research that I have found and tested on my

Download or read book The Butterfly Sings written by Bill McClain and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book clearly articulates the "Voice of the Patient". Many books are written by doctors and researchers trying to describe what it's like to be the person living with cancer, but this book actually does it. This book is 93 stories from 74 authors who all share the same incurable cancer, either as the patient or as the caregiver. And no two stories are alike. Each lays open the emotions, triumphs, and tragedies of the individual author's journey. This is not a medical book. This is a book exposing the disorienting changes authors find themselves in "after the diagnosis." The list of new "normal" experiences includes estrangement from some family members who cannot deal with a loved one's mortality, attack from social bullies (sometimes bosses), self-doubt, the stages of pre-grief, coping with the loss of bodily control, new understandings of mortality and spirituality, and a host of other psychological and emotional challenges, coupled with unexpected support from unanticipated sources, new eyes to recognize "friends," new understandings of what is important in life, all overlaid onto the trauma of having a new permanent visitor taking up residence in your body. Every story helps the reader understand about living with cancer. The stories are raw, insightful, and uplifting. Each story is a gem. There are postings from those who have recently passed away, and writings from children and parents. These stories are brimming with honesty, healing, and an understanding of our collective mortality. Comments from the cancer authors: "I feel like I live on a log in the middle of a river, waiting for it to be pulled over the waterfall." "With all the twists and turns during my MTC years, I feel as though I am always playing 'Whack-A-Mole'." "I am so happy I wrote my story. It is so relieving to pull it up and out of myself." "I don't like to complain usually, so it was a bit difficult to admit how hard writing my story was for me...since the big diagnosis." "In the end, I can nudge the cancer and tell it to move over." "The enemy, if you want to name one, is not cancer. It's fear." "Respectfully, I say 'thank you' to my cancer for showing me what an awesome life I have and what amazing family and friends I have been blessed with." "And don't forget, Cancer, you are my bitch." The stories come from around the world from Romania and Pakistan to the US and Canada, and through every demographic, from infant to octogenarians. Each person or caretaker has experienced the change, has grown from the change, and is a new person because of their journey with this cancer. Expert medical persons in this field have hailed this book, and its predecessor, as truly "The Voice Of The Patient." They have each said that even though they have dealt with this cancer for 20-30 years in their professional lives, only when they read this book have they started to understand what those living with it, and their caregivers, go through. "Cancer changes people. It sculpts us into someone who Understands more deeply, Hurts more often, Appreciates more quickly, Cries more easily, Hopes more desperately, Loves more openly, and Lives more passionately."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My Pink Cane And Me" is the story of my 6-time, stage 4, aggressive metastatic ovarian cancer journey. My cancer story is raw, emotional, unexpected, and inspiring. I wrote this book because I want to encourage and give hope to other people that are battling cancer. I want people to know that being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer is not always a death sentence. I am living proof that there is life after the big diagnosis. The book spans the course of 11 years, starting from my first cancer diagnosis in 2010 to the present day. My life was completely turned upside down as I was thrust into a new world of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, doctors/nurses, and cancer checks. Then, I had to go through it all over again each and every time cancer decided to make battles into wars. Through it all, I found a new purpose in life, helping others to see the light at the end of their own proverbial cancer tunnels and come out to the other side.

Book Don t Tell Me I m Going to Die

Download or read book Don t Tell Me I m Going to Die written by Feroze Moos and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-01-30 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These reflections on my terminal cancer have only one purpose in mind: to bring together those who would heal. and those who would be healed. And to preserve protect and prolong life, hold it sacred against all impediments and anyone who would have it otherwise. They mirror the human predicament reflected in a single heart, are written with no intent to harm, and hold everybody harmless in an effort to save lives. Some of the names have been altered to protect the innocent, while others have been used with their permission. Everything written and implied explicitly. or implicitly, is solely the perception of the author. The story of my life struggling with the cancer in me and the cancer out there as I call it, that would have had me dead before my time, is an odyssey that allows one to look into oneself. The fragility and insouciance of human nature is terrifying, disheartening and inconceivable at times, but nonetheless allows one to transcend it if one has the courage and tenacity to survive against all odds. Thats what this story is all about. I dedicate this book to all those who would unstintingly heal, knowing what cannot be known. hold life sacred and seek this truth so as to transcend themselves and act with compassion. humility and unerring faith, to help others survive.
