Ever since I first laid my eyes on the alien ship’s commander, I’ve had a crush on him. Who can blame me? He’s tall and gorgeous, with skin the color of midnight. He has a voice that can purr or roar and seven long tails that he really knows how to use. I know I can’t have him. I’ve never even spoken to him. But when an incident renders the commander unconscious, I have no choice but to take him to my remote hunting cabin. Instead of cooperating, the commander thinks he’s been abducted. Now, I have a pissed-off alien on the loose in the Canadian wilderness wearing my Snuggie. I need to find him or risk losing my job and starting an interplanetary conflict—among other things. What I don’t know is that finding him will cost me my heart. _______________________ All books in My Holiday Tails series stand alone, loosely connected by the same world and the fact that all heroes have tails. Book The Light At The End Of The Covid 19 Tunnel

Download or read book The Light At The End Of The Covid 19 Tunnel written by Gwendolyn S. Corbett and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-12-23 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covid-19 was a tsunami of sudden and major disruption on a global scale. Most people around the world experienced immediate and chaotic change. People stopped moving. The earth had a chance to breathe. Early on, people indicated that "there would be life before Covid-19 and life after Covid-19." Life would NEVER be the same. The swelling and welling up caused extreme and explosive forced action for most of humanity and a reaction from earth. There was no warning really. There's been nothing quite as earth-shocking and shattering for the entire world since World War II. Most humans from World War II are no longer here to share the memories of the abrupt and permanent alteration to lives everywhere. Covid-19 served as a reminder as to how precious all of life is. When this global pandemic wave rushed over earth, the impact was of unique proportions and magnitudes. Due to advanced technology and social media, the effects of Covid-19 and the havoc it wreaked on people's emotions, actions, and lives was readily available for the entire world to witness and respond to, or not. Due to the severe measures implemented in my state, the US, and worldwide, the immediate reaction was extreme fear. Close emotional allies of fear, regardless of spiritual and/or political affiliations, were the emotions of criticism, anger, judgment, division, frustration, suspicions, blame, and hopelessness. Basic freedoms that most people around the globe were typically afforded in normal times became forbidden, taboo, shunned. In most places, hand-shaking, hugging, kissing, and close contact were not allowed. In most places, for extended periods of time, restrictions halted physical contact with those outside of one's immediate family. If you were single or an elderly person in an assisted-care facility, there was a great chance of becoming very lonely. The coronavirus basically locked many people up in what would be a prison cell. While in this "prison cell," individuals were forced to reflect on themselves and on the relationships closest to them, mostly their immediate family, whether they were ready to do this or not. Close evaluation of workplace and extended social relationships took place as well. In the state of Ohio where I reside, towards the end of March 2020, the fear of the impending "coronavirus shutdown" was palpable with the extreme measures and restrictions that would affect personal and workplace lives. As an alternative healer and a very sensitive person, I felt the closing in, the locking of the prison cell door, the extreme fear most people felt. The close allies of fear surrounded me and attempted to draw me into the current of negativity. On March 20, 2020, God gave me a message strong and clear. He said, "Gwen, to make it through this pandemic, you must remain positive and hopeful for yourself, your family, community, humanity, and earth." On March 20, 2020, right before Ohio shut down life as usual, the poems started flowing. The first one was inspired by Proverbs 11:25 NIV, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." The poems continued to flow through May 8, 2021, two Mother's Day poems to my mom. These poems are to help heal the wounds of Covid-19. They are a gift to humanity and earth. Certain proceeds from this book will aid poor children in rural Appalachia where I grew up in Southeastern Ohio and hopefully well beyond.

Book Motherhood So White

Download or read book Motherhood So White written by Nefertiti Austin and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-20 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story every mother in America needs to read. As featured on NPR and the TODAY Show. All moms have to deal with choosing baby names, potty training, finding your village, and answering your kid's tough questions, but if you are raising a Black child, you have to deal with a lot more than that. Especially if you're a single Black mom... and adopting. Nefertiti Austin shares her story of starting a family through adoption as a single Black woman. In this unflinching account of her parenting journey, Nefertiti examines the history of adoption in the African American community, faces off against stereotypes of single Black moms, and confronts the reality of what it looks like to raise children of color and answer their questions about racism in modern-day America. Honest, vulnerable, and uplifting, Motherhood So White is a fantastic book for mothers who have read White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi, Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? by Beverly Daniel Tatum, or other books about racism and want to see how these social issues play out in a very personal way for a single mom and her Black son. This great book club read explores social and cultural bias, gives a new perspective on a familiar experience, and sparks meaningful conversations about what it looks like for Black families in white America today.

Book An Obstacomer s Journey Through Foresight and Hindsight

Download or read book An Obstacomer s Journey Through Foresight and Hindsight written by Elizabeth Mulenga and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-07-31 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been maintaining a gratitude journal for the past twenty years, which I now refer to as my “gratitude timeline.” I never thought to share some of its contents until after my attempt to purchase inspirational books whose authors have inspired me throughout my struggles to provide as gifts to orphans and vulnerable youth I met during my travel to sub-Saharan Africa. After returning from a trip to Zambia in June 2019, I began to plan future travels to visit the orphans and vulnerable youth, and it suddenly occurred to me during a conversation with a friend in August 2019 that sharing my own story would enable me to connect and relate to the orphans and vulnerable youth, since I have walked in their shoes after losing both parents at a young age. I was further inspired to share my own story after a Sabbath school discussion at church about living a legacy of God’s faithfulness in one’s life for the generation behind you. In October 2019, I finally made the decision to publish this twenty--day devotional on God’s continued faithfulness in my life. First, I created an outline of key topics and life lessons I wanted to impart into the lives of my readers, which made me realize I had a lot more to share than just a few pages. My hope with this devotional is to encourage orphans, vulnerable youth around the world, and anyone who has had to overcome many obstacles throughout life.

Book 700 Billion Bailout

Download or read book 700 Billion Bailout written by Paul Muolo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an analysis of the controversial Emergency Economic Stabilization Act and explains in easy to understand language what the bailout bill means for individuals. $700 Billion Bailout answers questions such as: What does the bill say, exactly? Who is making decisions about how the $700 billion will be spent, and what does it mean now that the government is investing directly in our banks? Who’s footing the bill? What is the impact on homeowners, businesses, retirement, and taxes? Where do I put my money in the meantime? Veteran reporter Paul Muolo shows both the challenges and opportunities of the credit crisis and proposed bailout, including its impact on: Mortgages: While rates may be lower, there will be more fees imposed on mortgages. Lenders will be far more cautious in lending, and people who cannot meet their mortgages are likely to lose these homes. This may create a “contrarian” plays in foreclosures and vacation homes.. Stocks and Other Investments: Is now the time to get into the stock market or is it safer to stick with CDs, bonds, and gold? Taxes: With the tax breaks, there will be less tax revenue leading to a huge shortfall to the government over the next few years. He will offer insight into these areas and many others, including how the structure of the bailout bill allows for unprecedented authority that has altered the financial landscape, perhaps permanently. Will the plan work, and how we can prevent this from happening again remains to be seen, but with $700 Billion Bailout Paul Muolo gives us a critical tool for deciphering perhaps the most sweeping piece of legislation since the Patriot Act.

Married for twenty years to the same man, she found great success balancing a career in advertising with raising two beautiful children. She also lived up to her own very high standards as a quintessential homemaker, gourmet cook, world traveler, public speaker, cyclist, marathoner, and a trainer for other athletes. Those around Sheila were amazed by her ability to juggle her seemingly perfect life. In this book, Ms. Joy candidly reveals that behind her mask of perfection was a life filled with turbulence and pain. Always working hard to cover up her insecurities and feelings of not being good enough, she never allowed herself to get close to anyone. As the adult child of an alcoholic, Sheila openly and honestly reveals her need to control the people and situations around her. It took a painful divorce, a disastrous second marriage, the threat of bankruptcy and the most tragic experience of all - her teenage son's horrific motorcycle accident and traumatic brain injury - to finally make Sheila realize that the only person she could change was herself. At last, Sheila has removed her mask. This book will motivate you with her strength, honesty, and integrity. By openly sharing her own experiences, Sheila proves that it is never too late to change. Most importantly, however, her words reveal the key to finding true and lasting joy.
