Book Mutual Aerodynamic Interference Effects for Multiple Bodies by the Cross flow Corrections Method

Download or read book Mutual Aerodynamic Interference Effects for Multiple Bodies by the Cross flow Corrections Method written by Fred W. Martin and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexity of the flow field beneath an aircraft with external stores is examined analytically. Equations are produced for computing store separation trajectories, based on mutual interference flow fields between the aircraft and the store. The circle theorem and the small disturbances theory are used in establishing the perturbations responsible for the flow field interference. (Author).

Book Mutual Aerodynamic Interference Effects for Two Axisymmetric Bodies

Download or read book Mutual Aerodynamic Interference Effects for Two Axisymmetric Bodies written by Fred W. Martin and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mutual aerodynamic interference problem for two axisymmetric bodies has been analyzed using the image system technique. In order to facilitate this analysis, it has been assumed that small perturbation solutions are valid. It is further assumed that the external stores are slender bodies and that the mutual interference can be analyzed by first assuming a cross-flow solution. The image system in the cross-flow plane consists of source-sink pairs appropriately located by using the Milne-Thomson circle theorem. The actual three-dimensional source-sink paris are displaced from the body axis according to the cross flow image system. Their strengths are then determined by the Rankine method. Good agreement has been found between the theoretical and experimental results. (Author).

Book Mutual Aerodynamic Interference Effects for Multiple Bodies of Revolution and Distorted Bodies of Revolution

This book was released on 1976 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of solution for the aerodynamic flow field about two bodies at angle of attack including mutual interference effects has been devised for bodies with circular cross-section. The analytical method used is a modification of a method of solution for the flow about axisymmetric bodies in close proximity at zero angle of attack. As a demonstration of this method, the flows about one, two and three finless M-117 bomb shapes were investigated. Theoretical pressure distributions are presented for the two and three body cases. For the three body case, experimental data is available; however, there is poor agreement with data thought primarily to be because of flow separation along the tails of the bombs. A non-axisymmetric modification of the M-117 bomb shape was developed in order to simulate the flow separation. The analytical results of this effort are compared with the experimental data. Book Aerodynamic Interference of Wing pylon body Combinations at Low Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book Aerodynamic Interference of Wing pylon body Combinations at Low Subsonic Speeds written by Kenneth Boland Walkley and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for determining the subsonic aerodynamic interference between a planar wing with pylons and a single axisymmetric body has been developed and evaluated. The wing and body solutions were obtained independently using a simple horseshoe vortex system and a three-dimensional point source distribution, respectively. A vortex image system based on the two-dimensional theory of images was then added to the body to maintain the tangent-flow boundary condition in the non-uniform wing flow field. Both the influence of the vortex image system within the body and the body flow field effects at the wing were evaluated. No significant change in the wing vortex strength distribution resulted so that it was unnecessary to iterate the isolated wing solution. The theoretical results for incompressible flow were compared with pressure distributions obtained from low-speed wind tunnel tests of the wing-body configuration. The correlation was generally good. Book Cross flow Corrected Axisymmetric Solution for Multiple Body Interference

Download or read book Cross flow Corrected Axisymmetric Solution for Multiple Body Interference written by Fred W. Martin and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this effort was to develop the theoretical solution required to define the mutual aerodynamic interference associated with the carriage and release of weapons in the multiple mode. The cross-flow solution for multiple axisymmetric bodies that was previously generated was used to correct the axisymmetric solution in order to account for the mutual interference effects. An equivalent cylindrical body was generated by conformal transformation in order to simulate, as if axisymmetric, the finned portions of the bodies. The analysis reported is for three M-117 bombs in the vicinity of a triple ejector rack; however, any axisymmetric, slender pointed weapon shape could be used. A limited amount of experimental work substantiating this theoretical solution is included as part of this effort. The resulting analytical solution has been programmed for use on both the IBM 360/50 and the CDC 6600 computers. (Author).

Book Aerodynamic Interference Between High speed Slender Bodies

Download or read book Aerodynamic Interference Between High speed Slender Bodies written by Ross Chaplin and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant aerodynamic interference can occur between high-speed bodies in close proximity. A complex flowfield develops where shock and expansion waves from a generator body impinge upon the adjacent receiver body. The pressure and flow angularity changes which occur across these disturbances modify the body aerodynamics. The aim of this research is to quantify the aerodynamic interference effects for multi-body configurations and understand the relevant flow physics. The interference aerodynamics for slender bodies in a supersonic flow were investigated through a parametric wind tunnel study. The receiver bodies were finned and un-finned configurations. The effect of lateral and axial body separations, receiver incidence and the strength of the disturbance field were investigated. Measurements included forces and moments, surface pressures and flow visualisations. Supporting computations using steady-state, viscous predictions provided a deeper understanding of the underlying aerodynamics and flow mechanisms. Good agreement was found between the measured and predicted interference loads and surface pressures for all configurations. The interference loads are strongly dependent upon the axial impingement location of the primary shockwave. These induced loads change polarity as the impingement location moves aft over the receiver. The magnitude of the interference loads increase when the receiver is at incidence and are amplified by up to a factor of three when rear fins are attached. In general, the interference loads are larger for a stronger disturbance flowfield. The centre of pressure location is substantially affected and the static stability of the finned receiver changes in some configurations. The effect of the aerodynamic interference on the body trajectories was assessed using an unsteady, Euler prediction in combination with a 6DOF dynamic model. This shows aerodynamiciiinterference can cause a collision between the bodies. Moreover, the initial interference loads dominate the subsequent body trajectories and static modelling can be used to evaluate the dynamic trajectories.

Book Computational and Experimental Aerodynamic Interference Study of Axisymmetric Bodies at Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book Computational and Experimental Aerodynamic Interference Study of Axisymmetric Bodies at Subsonic Speeds written by Fred W. Martin and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program has been formulated for the study of the mutual aerodynamic interference between axisymmetric bodies. The basic approach utilizes the method of superposition of an axial source-sink distribution to form closed bodies. The mutual interference flow fields are then superimposed on the isolated body solutions. This work has been limited, therefore, to solutions of the Prandtl-Glauert equation. An operational computer program available as a result of contractual work previously for the U.S. Air Force, has been appropriately revised for this work. In addition to the analytical effort, a limited amount of experimental data has been obtained for the dual purpose of obtaining an experimental data base and of verifying the validity of the analytical work.
