Questioned the relevance of Church, religion, or the existence of God, especially when faced with the world’s hardships? Or perhaps you’re grappling with religious studies homework and seeking some clarity. This book offers a unique perspective from someone who isn’t ordained, doesn’t claim to be a theological expert, but is, as the title suggests, just an ordinary bloke. A bloke who has turned to his faith during tough times and found comfort and solace. Despite acknowledging the confusing and contradictory nature of faith, he believes he has uncovered some answers and is ready to share them. Musings on Faith by an Ordinary Bloke provides a refreshingly honest insight into one person’s journey with faith. It’s an engaging read for anyone of any age seeking understanding and comfort when traditional avenues seem inadequate. This book isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about sharing the journey of finding them.

Book Thoughts of an Ordinary Man

Download or read book Thoughts of an Ordinary Man written by Jack Gorman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-02-23 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of the thoughts of an ordinary man, any subject that comes to mind; and in no particular order. I cover all ideas, from conversations I have had, my reactions to newspapers and other media reports, and virtually everything that I have formed opinions on. With the accusations that Americans are always far left or far right, I wanted to give the opinions of an ordinary man. From this, you decide if an ordinary man leans hard left, hard right, more toward center or maybe is really schizophrenic. Each thought is kept as short as possible in presentation in an attempt to get right to the point and solicit expanded thought from the reader. I wrote this, not to be read as a novel, but to be read whenever there are five minutes available to ponder a new idea.

Book An Ordinary Man An Extraordinary God

Download or read book An Ordinary Man An Extraordinary God written by Dr. Ernest S. Martin and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-08-02 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After retiring as a veterinarian, the author had much more time to spend with others, so he related stories of many of the experiences in his life. He was asked by family, friends, and others with whom he had shared if he had recorded these stories. Ernest never wanted to write his life story, but God revealed to him that he should record his experiences and title the book An Ordinary Man, An Extraordinary God. His procrastination to write ended when he had a back fusion with two rods and ten screws which required him to lay on a bone stimulator for four hours a day for six months; and during that time, he was not able to do any physical work. The book would show how God could take a country boy raised on a farm and use him to bring glory to God. Explaining how God used him could encourage others who also thought they were "nobodies" to realize that God could use any person that believed in God and spent time in His Word to walk in the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. The book begins just before Ernest received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and continues showing how, through His Word, the author received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, learned to walk in the Spirit, witnessed about God to others, prayed the prayer of faith for healing, cast out demons, and did other works of God. His walk with God and how he grew in faith is shared chronologically in the book. Now he could understand the groaning of the spirit within a Christian for the day of redemption when he would enter God's presence and be with Jesus for eternity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known as "the Garbo of Chinese letters" for her elegance and the aura of mystery that surrounded her, Eileen Chang is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential modern Chinese novelists and cultural critics of the twentieth century. In Written on Water, first published in 1945 and now available for the first time in English, Chang offers essays on art, literature, war, and urban life, as well as autobiographical reflections. Chang takes in the sights and sounds of wartime Shanghai and Hong Kong, with the tremors of national upheaval and the drone of warplanes in the background, and inventively fuses explorations of urban life, literary trends, domestic habits, and historic events. These evocative and moving firsthand accounts examine the subtle and not-so-subtle effects of the Japanese bombing and occupation of Shanghai and Hong Kong. Eileen Chang writes of friends, colleagues, and teachers turned soldiers or wartime volunteers, and her own experiences as a part-time nurse. Her nuanced depictions range from observations of how a woman's elegant dress affects morale to descriptions of hospital life. With a distinctive style that is at once meditative, vibrant, and humorous, Chang engages the reader through sly, ironic humor; an occasionally chatty tone; and an intense fascination with the subtleties of modern urban life. The collection vividly captures the sights and sounds of Shanghai, a city defined by its mix of tradition and modernity. Chang explores the city's food, fashions, shops, cultural life, and social mores; she reveals and upends prevalent attitudes toward women and in the process presents a portrait of a liberated, cosmopolitan woman, enjoying the opportunities, freedoms, and pleasures offered by urban life. In addition to her descriptions of daily life, Chang also reflects on a variety of artistic and literary issues, including contemporary films, the aims of the writer, the popularity of the Peking Opera, dance, and painting.

Book The Life of an Ordinary Man in the Hands of an Extraordinary God

Download or read book The Life of an Ordinary Man in the Hands of an Extraordinary God written by John Gowan and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever felt ordinary? Do you feel as if your life doesn’t really count for much? Are you feeling defeated because of past or current failures? Are you wondering if there even is a God who cares about you and has a plan and a purpose for your life? Life can be very discouraging at times, and it is easy to slip into an attitude of despair and defeat. Looking back over the course of his life, author John Gowan came to realize that God did have a plan for his life greater than anything he could have imagined as a child, as a teenager, or as a young adult. Most of us have seasons of life that make it seem as if we are going nowhere. It wasn’t until he was in his early forties that John even came to have faith in Christ. But that faith has made all the difference in his life and the choices that followed. In this book, John not only chronicles his faith journey from childhood to adulthood but also shares insights on such topics as the end times and what kind of legacy we should want to leave. He will challenge you to think outside the box in his chapter “Things to Ponder.” Many today feel that we are living in very distressing times when not only our individual lives but life in general seems very uncertain. It is times like these that make seeking to grow your faith in a loving God even more important. What was true for the author is also true for you as you seek to know the one who created you and loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die for you.
