Fueled by a powerful curiosity—and by a need to see, feel, and hear, firsthand and close-up—Michael Crichton's journeys have carried him into worlds diverse and compelling—swimming with mud sharks in Tahiti, tracking wild animals through the jungle of Rwanda. This is a record of those travels—an exhilarating quest across the familiar and exotic frontiers of the outer world, a determined odyssey into the unfathomable, spiritual depths of the inner world. It is an adventure of risk and rejuvenation, terror and wonder, as exciting as Michael Crichton's many masterful and widely heralded works of fiction.

Book Zohar The Book of Radiance Revealed

Download or read book Zohar The Book of Radiance Revealed written by Dr. Robert H. Schram and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are numerous books written about Jewish mysticism, kabbalah, and the Zohar (Book of Radiance). The Zohar is written in code through the use of symbolism, euphemisms, figures of speech, ancient phraseology, and the Hebrew Bible or Tenakh. Tenakh is an acronym formed from the initial Hebrew letters of Masoretic Text’s three traditional subdivisions (Torah - the Five Books of Moses, Nevi’im - Prophets, and Ketuvim - writings). Thanks to the incredible scholarship of Professor Daniel Matt from Berkeley California the codes of the Zohar have become more comprehensible to the inquisitive reader. It was because of Professor Matt’s translation, explanations, and notes on the Zohar in his first seven volumes that I was moved to write this book. ”The Zohar is firmly rooted in tradition but thrives on discovery.”

This reference offers thorough critical assessments of the lives and works of African American playwrights from the 19th century to the present. The book alphabetically arranges entries on more than 60 dramatists, including James Baldwin, Arna Bontemps, Ossie Davis, Zora Neale Hurston, and Richard Wright. Each entry is written by an expert contributor and includes a biography, a discussion of major works and themes, a summary of the playwright's critical reception, and primary and secondary bibliographies. The volume closes with a selected, general bibliography. African American dramatists have made enormous contributions to the theater and their works are included in numerous editions and anthologies. Some of the most popular plays of the 20th century have been written by African Americans, and high school students and undergraduates study their works. But for all their popularity and influence, African American playwrights have received less critical attention than poets and novelists. This reference offers thorough critical assessments of more than 60 African American dramatists from the 19th century to the present.

Book High Tide in Tucson

Download or read book High Tide in Tucson written by Barbara Kingsolver and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-03-17 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Clever. . . magical. . . beautifully crafted. Kingsolver spins you around the philosophic world a dozen times." — Milwaukee Sentinel "There is no one quite like Barbara Kingsolver in contemporary literature," raves the Washington Post Book World, and it is right. Kingsolver's critically acclaimed writings always entertain and touch her legions of loyal fans. In High Tide in Tucson, she returns to her familiar themes of family, community, the common good, and the natural world. The title essay considers Buster, a hermit crab that accidentally stows away on Kingsolver's return trip from the Bahamas to her desert home, and turns out to have manic-depressive tendencies. Buster is running around for all he's worth—one can only presume it's high tide in Tucson. Kingsolver brings a moral vision and refreshing sense of humor to subjects ranging from modern motherhood to the history of private property to the suspended citizenship of human beings in the Animal Kingdom. Beautifully packaged, with original illustrations by illustrator Paul Mirocha, these wise lessons on the urgent business of being alive make it a perfect gift for Kingsolver's many fans.
