Book Musings of a Christian Physician on the Physical and Spiritual Healing of Man

Download or read book Musings of a Christian Physician on the Physical and Spiritual Healing of Man written by Joseph DeMay MD FAAP and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had always believed in the healing power of our Lord, and viewed my life as one of service to Him via the practice of medicine. But, in retrospect, I had a deeper trust in the power of modern medicine and science than I did in Jesus Christ and His fully accomplished work on the Cross. My thinking was flawed, but, as I grew in my walk with the Lord and meditated on Scripture more fully, I began to see the superiority of faith over the limited interventions modern medical science had to offer, and that this interplay between faith and science was not mutually exclusive, but complimentary, for the spiritual aspects of our lives illuminate and empower the carnal aspects of intellect and physical senses. I began jotting notes to myself related to this interplay of faith and healing and science, and just filed them away...for years. IThen, in December of 2017, a baby was born to a first time mother of mine, his little body riddled with the most fulminant form of acute lymphoblasic leukemia, almost always fatal. His absolutely miraculous healing was the impetus to start putting these thoughts into writing, in the form of weekday morning emails entitled “A Christian Doctor’s View of Healing, Faiith, and Science”. It was soon made clear to me that these writings were to take the form of a year long devotional book, comprised of short weekday messages that are intimately linked, such that they can be read through as a book. And that book was to paint a picture, and that picture was to be of a face, and the face was to be that of Jesus, for He is the source of all healing

Book A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists

Download or read book A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists written by David G. Myers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-02 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists helps readers—both secular and religious—appreciate their common ground. For those whose thinking has moved from the religious thesis to the skeptical antithesis (or vice versa), Myers offers pointers to a science-respecting Christian synthesis. He shows how skeptics and people of faith can share a commitment to reason, evidence, and critical thinking, while also embracing a faith that supports human flourishing—by making sense of the universe, giving meaning to life, connecting us in supportive communities, mandating altruism, and offering hope in the face of adversity and death.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to most dictionaries, “Musings” are periods of reflection or thought. After so many years of living (a lot of years!) I’ve been able to experience God in so many incredible ways. In my Family, my Marriage, my Kids and Grandkids, my Ministry and my Music. Call me simple, but I look for God in all activity in my life. From my greatest victories to the most horrible failures, God has been right there in the mix. Nothing happens to me without Him knowing about it. There are still plenty of things I cannot figure out: Why does the creator of the universe who named all the stars think about me - and why so often? Why does He lavish such love on me? Why is He working behind the scenes orchestrating all things for my own good. I just don’t get it. You? There I go again ‘Musing’. That’s the story of my life. Enjoy my Musings; hopefully they will bring a smile, an “LOL” or a tear as you read some of my most intimate moments with God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Musings But one says: I dare not appropriate them, I feel unworthy of God's favor; but the promises are not made to those who are worthy; the Saviour does not say come unto me all ye who are worthy, but, all ye who labor and are heavy laden. 'none had ever responded to the first call - many have to the last. Whosoever will -he is the person to whom the promises are made. See how Paul takes the promise made to Jacob and Joshua, and sends it broadcast to all believers, in all time to come Be content with such things as ye have, for the Lord hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. And if this promise may be appropriated by all, surely all. Prom ises may be by all who need them and receive them m faith. But, What is this faith? Who has it? Who knows any thin g about it? Is it warm to-day and cold to-morrow; allembracing to-day, and drawn down to-morrow to nothing; believing all things to-day, and fearing all things to-mor row No, surely, this was not the faith 'wtl'l Abraham had when he went to offer up Isaac; not the faith that Moses had when he chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. Not the faith that David had when he said, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, In Him will I trust not the faith that Isaiah had when he said, The Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded; therefore have I set my face like a flint and I know that I shall not be ashamed; not the faith that Paul had every day from the hour when he Said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? Till he uttered his last triumphant cry, I have finished my course, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown, etc. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Legacy of sovereign joy

Download or read book The Legacy of sovereign joy written by JOHN PIPER and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An uplifting look at three famous and flawed fathers of the Christian church and how their lives can inspire us to fall in love with God and find the power to overcome our weaknesses. Augustine grappled with sexual passion. Martin Luther struggled to control his tongue. John Calvin fought the battle of faith with the world's weapons. Yet despite their failings, each man will always be remembered as a founding father to the Christian faith because of the messages they declared. And even with their deaths hundreds of years ago, their messages still speak today. John Piper explores each man's life, integrating Augustine's delight in God with Luther's emphasis on the Word and Calvin's exposition of Scriptures. Through their strengths and struggles, he teaches us how to better live today, for when we consider their lives, we behold the glory and majesty of God - and in that, find the power to overcome our weaknesses.

Book Unbelievable

Download or read book Unbelievable written by Rob J Hyndman and published by Rob Hyndman. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journey from faith via evidence. Why a university professor gave up religion and became an unbeliever. Rob J Hyndman is Professor of Statistics at Monash University, Australia. He was a Christadelphian for nearly 30 years, and was well-known as a writer and Bible teacher within the Christadelphian community. He gave up Christianity when he no longer thought that there was sufficient evidence to support belief in the Bible. This is a personal memoir describing Rob's journey of deconversion. Until recently, he was regularly speaking at church conferences internationally, and his books are still used in Bible classes and Sunday Schools around the world. He even helped establish an innovative new church, which became a model for similar churches in other countries. Eventually he came to the view that he was mistaken, and that there was little or no evidence that the Bible was inspired or that God exists. In this book, he reflects on how he was fooled, and why he changed his mind. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, you will be led to reflect on the nature of faith and evidence, and how they interact.
