Die Motivation dieser Arbeit stellt der Wunsch nach einer adäquaten, qualitativ hochwertigen Behandlung von Menschen mit psychischen Störungen dar. Somit ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit, ein besseres Verständnis für die Aufgaben und Möglichkeiten der Sozialen Arbeit zu schaffen, um eine professionelle musikalische Behandlung von psychisch gestörten Menschen zu gewährleisten. Dies beinhaltet insbesondere die Herausarbeitung der Verbindung von Sozialer Arbeit und Musik. Die Arbeit befasst sich ausschließlich mit der Behandlung von Schizophrenie, da für die musikalische Behandlung von schizophren Erkrankten in der Literatur kaum Handlungsanweisungen für Sozialarbeitende vorliegen. Mittels umfassender Literaturrecherche wurden daher Handlungsmöglichkeiten im Fazit dieser Arbeit formuliert. Um dieses Fazit argumentativ zu untermauern, werden zunächst die wichtigsten Aspekte dieser Literaturauswertung aufgezeigt. Vorweg sorgen Begriffserklärungen für ein einheitliches Verständnis der Argumentation. Um ein Bewusstsein für die Möglichkeiten der Sozialen Arbeit im Bereich Musik zu schaffen, wird aufgezeigt, welche Verbindung zwischen Sozialer Arbeit und Musik existiert. Für die Argumentationsstruktur dieser Arbeit ist zudem ein Grundwissen über Musiktherapie von Bedeutung, welches in Kapitel 4 gegeben wird. Die darauf folgende Differenzierung von Musiktherapie und Musik in der Sozialen Arbeit stellt den Kernpunkt der Argumentation dar. Kapitel 5 dient dem Verständnis der Leser*innen über das Krankheitsbild von Schizophrenie und zeigt letztlich auf, welche Wirkung Musiktherapie bei Schizophrenie hat. Kapitel 6 befasst sich mit der abschließenden Beantwortung der Fragestellung. Hier werden politische bzw. strukturelle Handlungsvorschläge für die Soziale Arbeit anhand einfacher Beispiele skizziert.

It is an emotional reaction e.g. to humiliation, to being severely disappointed by others, or to violations of basic values. Embitterment is accompanied by other emotions like feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, poor moods and a lack of drive, and aggression towards oneself and others. It can end in suicide or even murder-suicide and in a distinct pathological state known as “Posttraumatic Embitterment Disorder (PTED)”. But despite the high prevalence rates, the detrimental effects on individuals and its forensic and societal importance, embitterment has yet to receive due scientific attention. Book excerpt: The idea for this book sprang from Geoffrey Cocks' curiosity as to what happened in the new, dynamic field of psychotherapy hi Germany with the advent of Hitler. While traditional views merely asserted that the Nazis destroyed the field of psychotherapy in Germany, a viewpoint justifiably based on the testimony of those in the field who had emigrated from Germany to escape Nazi persecution, Cocks learned that there was more to the story. He looked to several interesting shards of evidence that pointed to the possibility that one could reconstruct a history of morally questionable professional developments in German psychotherapy during the Third Reich. The evidence included: existence of a journal for psychotherapy published continuously from 1928 to 1944; accounts of a psychotherapist who assumed leadership of his colleagues and who was a relative of the powerful Nazi leader Hermann Goring; and a strong psychotherapeutic lobby in German medicine that was intellectually impoverished but apparently not destroyed by the expulsion of the prominent and predominantly Jewish psychoanalytic movement. Non-Jewish psychoanalysts and psychotherapists had in fact pursued their profession under the aegis of the so-called Goring Institute, with substantial support from agencies of the Nazi party, the Reich government, the military, and private business. Much research has been done in the ten years since the first edition of this book was published, hence the need for a second edition. Included is more information on the history of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Nazi Germany, on the social history of the Third Reich, and on the history of the professions in Germany. Three new chapters analyze postwar developments and conflicts as well as broader issues of continuity and discontinuity in the history of modern Germany and the West. In addition, the author has reorganized the volume along chronological and narrative lines for greater ease of reading. A review of extant research yields the heartening conclusion that psychotherapy remains an effective treatment for people with personality disorders. An analysis of the rationale for combining psychotherapy and psychopharmacology emphasizes the importance of identifying temperament and target conditions.
