Generally speaking it is not hard to say whether a sound should be called a noise or music, but it is harder to define what music is in so many words. The following is fairly comprehensive, though not very exact: Music is the effect of sound under certain conditions and when in accordance with certain rules. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teacher's Manual, Vol. 1: For First, Second, and Third Grades; With Accompaniments for Book One and Additional Note Songs, Folk Dances and Singing Games; The Progressive Music Series The music material comprises the best that could be found in the libraries of America and Europe; original songs written by many of the foremost liv ing composers; and characteristic folk songs, many of which were obtained from sources hitherto unavailable. In selecting the music for the series, the first concern of the editors was to assemble only songs of unquestioned merit from the standpoint of real musical worth. These approved songs, whether original or otherwise, were then classified With reference to their technical features and assigned to their appropriate places in the course. This plan assures that all the material of the series Whether illustrating a technical problem or presented for recreational singing comprises only songs of un questioned cultural value. In the case of original contributions, the primary object was to obtain an unrestrained expression of the composer's individuality. Genuine interest in the series and complete cooperation on the part of the composer were se cured through personal interviews. As a result the series is able to offer a large number of beautiful and original songs by eminent composers songs which represent the composer at his best and give free expression to his indi vidual style and manner. Book Primary Teachers Manual Classic Reprint

Download or read book Primary Teachers Manual Classic Reprint written by C. R. Blackall and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Primary Teachers' Manual The present work is one of two manuals that have been prepared in collaboration by Mrs. Rowland and Mrs. Smith. The plans for both manuals have followed along similar lines. The introductory pages are made up in the main from the teachers' books in each course. After a short series of General Orders of Service come Special Orders of Service, one only for the Cradle Roll in the manual for teachers of beginners, and two each for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Missions, and Promotion Day. The manual for primary teachers does not contain a special for cradle roll, but has three each for those mentioned above, with an addition of two on temperance and three on missions. All of the music in the teachers quarterly parts has been retained in the same order and numbering as originally published, with much additional music, the shorter pieces being inserted in the text, the rest indicated numerically. The musical selections will be found varied, particularly pleasing, and within the range of children's voices. A few extra pieces of music not included in the Orders of Service will afford opportunity for choice, if desired. The Round Tables and list of Musical and Teachers' Helps have been prepared especially for each of the two manuals. The arrangement of recitations and music need not be literally followed: the several Orders of Service may be easily changed or adapted to any particular occasion; or may form a basis of fresh programs at the option of teachers, with omissions or additions as may be desired. The editor takes pleasure in saying that these manuals are the product of painstaking and conscientious effort on the part of the authors, whose wide experience as practical teachers has given them such appreciation of the needs of their coworkers in the departments as to render the work especially valuable. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual for Teachers, and Rote Songs, to Accompany the Tonic Sol-Fa Music Course for Schools There is a growing demand for intelligent singing in our public schools. Although the study of vocal music has long been a recognized part of our public instruction, the results, taken as a whole, have been very unsatisfactory. The Tonic Sol-fa method has been taught now for fifteen years in the public schools of Great Britain, with such success that it is superseding all other systems of teaching vocal music. It has recently been introduced into several of the public schools of America, and in every instance has won the hearty approval of the teachers. Without any unnecessary complications, it sets forth in a plain, unmistakable way, the fundamental principles of music. The method is carefully arranged in progressive steps, and is so entirely in accord with true educational principles, that school teachers can and do teach it as successfully as they teach other branches of study. Book Grade School Music Teaching

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Grade School Music Teaching: For Superintendents, Music Supervisors, and Grade Teachers Mr. Giddings is one of those teachers who insist on making sight-singing a necessary part of music education. Those who cannot read words are classed as "illiterates," and Mr. Giddings makes the same classification in music. Wherever music is taught, either in private or public schools, much time is spent in doing something with the notation. Mr. Giddings believes that instead of surrounding it with a veil of mystery and wasting time on stunts this part of the music period should be employed in the most effective way possible in teaching the children to read, and that all vagueness as to the meaning of the symbols of music should be removed from the minds of the pupils. Mr. Giddings lets the class drive ahead and "learn to read by reading." About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
