Book Murphy s Law

Download or read book Murphy s Law written by Jack Murphy and published by Threshold Editions. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Sure to go down as an important piece of military-memoir history…a fast-paced, insightful, hold-nothing-back memoir” (Brandon Webb, former Navy Seal, New York Times bestselling author) from a former Army Ranger sniper and Special Operations weapon sergeant-turned-journalist about the incredible highs and devastating lows of his career. Growing up in small New York towns, Jack Murphy knew he wanted to lead a life far from the ordinary—a life of adventure and valor. After the 9/11 attacks, he enlisted in the Army, knowing this was his chance to fight for a cause he staunchly supported. After making it through the rigorous Ranger Indoctrination Program, he graduated from sniper school and was promptly deployed to Afghanistan, where his experiences went from ordinary to extraordinary. In this gripping military memoir, Murphy recounts the multiple missions he underwent as a Ranger, a Special Forces weapons sergeant, and ultimately, a boots-on-the-ground journalist. From enemy ambushes, dodging explosives, crashing terrorists’ weddings, and landing helicopters in the streets of Mosul, Jack provides a hard-hitting glimpse of what combat is like in some of the world’s most dangerous, war-torn places. With tours of duty in two of the most decorated units of the armed forces, Murphy brings a unique perspective to the military genre as he reflects on his great triumphs and shattering failures both on and off the battlefield. Later, Murphy turned his attention to breaking news within the military. His stories have taken him from Iraq to Switzerland, from Syria to South Korea. From crossing Middle Eastern borders in the dead of night, to rolling into an IED-laden zone, Murphy’s stories are always a thrill a minute. “Powerful. Gritty. Real. An absolutely captivating account of bravery and adventure” (Brad Thor), Murphy’s Law tells a story of intense bravery and sacrifice—both on and off the battlefield.

Never more so however than in the 21st century. Catching the ear of the monumentally distracted, fragmented listener has never been more difficult. Getting their attention, inviting them in to your song and keeping them there for long enough for your song to become "their song" requires more than being just a "good" songwriter. Murphy's Laws of Songwriting "The Book" arms the songwriter for success by demystifying the process and opening the door to serious professional songwriting. Hall of fame songwriter Paul Williams said in his review of the book "If there was a hit songwriters secret handshake Da Murphy would probably have included it." About the Author Ralph Murphy, songwriter, has been successful for five decades. Consistently charting songs in an ever-changing musical environment makes him a member of that very small group of professionals who make a living ding what they love to do. As time passed, these canny precepts found their way into the culture at large--but the roots of Murphy’s Laws clearly lie in this sport that’s tailor-made to expose the fundamental malevolence of the cosmos. Book excerpt: Pollyannas take heart, pessimists take note: Recent studies on achievement and well-being show that optimistic behavior contributes to better physical health, greater resilience in the face of life’s twists and turns, and more satisfying relationships. As psychologists Suzanne Segerstrom reveals, optimists lay groundwork for the success they envision. While the rest of us worry whether our goals are attainable, those who practice optimism try to achieve theirs. Breaking Murphy’s Law shows you simple ways to develop the skills that natural-born optimists use to get what they want from life. Dr. Segerstrom helps you break free from the inertia of cynicism and self-doubt and encourages you to engage the world around you. “Doing optimism”--by getting involved, working hard, and enjoying your achievements--establishes a positive feedback loop that’s both personally transformative and self-perpetuating. This practical book imparts the lesson with a mix of humor and intelligence that will convince even the most hardened cynics that Murphy got it wrong.

Book How to Use the Laws of Mind

Download or read book How to Use the Laws of Mind written by Dr. Joseph Murphy and published by Gildan Media LLC aka G&D Media. This book was released on 2019-10-03 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is one of Dr. Murphy’s best books, on a par with his classic The Power of your Subconscious Mind. It explains the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind, and how the two work together to create the reality of the individual. As in Murphy’s other books, examples are given of how people overcame problems or manifested their desires by changing their minds through belief, affirmation, and visualization. The chapters deal with: HEALING PRAYER BECOMING SPIRITUAL-MINDED THE CREATIVITY OF THOUGHT THE MEANING OF EVIL THE MEANING OF LIFE CONTROLLING ONE’S FEAR THE POWER OF SUGGESTION MARRIAGE, SEX, AND DIVORCE In his very engaging style, the author teaches us how to use both phases of the mind synchronously, harmoniously, and peacefully in order to bring harmony, health, and abundance into our lives. He also explains that Biblical statements are parables, allegories, metaphors, similes, and cryptic statements, and are thus not to be taken literally. The main message is that we are all children of the infinite, born to win, and to live in the joyous expectancy of the best. Exclusive to and approved by the estate of Joseph Murphy

Book God and Moral Law

  • Author : Mark C. Murphy
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2011-11-17
  • ISBN : 0199693668
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book God and Moral Law written by Mark C. Murphy and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-17 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God's existence make a difference to how we explain morality? Mark C. Murphy critiques the two dominant theistic accounts of morality—natural law theory and divine command theory—and presents a novel third view. He argues that we can value natural facts about humans and their good, while keeping God at the centre of our moral explanations. The characteristic methodology of theistic ethics is to proceed by asking whether there are features of moral norms that can be adequately explained only if we hold that such norms have some sort of theistic foundation. But this methodology, fruitful as it has been, is one-sided. God and Moral Law proceeds not from the side of the moral norms, so to speak, but from the God side of things: what sort of explanatory relationship should we expect between God and moral norms given the existence of the God of orthodox theism? Mark C. Murphy asks whether the conception of God in orthodox theism as an absolutely perfect being militates in favour of a particular view of the explanation of morality by appeal to theistic facts. He puts this methodology to work and shows that, surprisingly, natural law theory and divine command theory fail to offer the sort of explanation of morality that we would expect given the existence of the God of orthodox theism. Drawing on the discussion of a structurally similar problem—that of the relationship between God and the laws of nature—Murphy articulates his new account of the relationship between God and morality, one in which facts about God and facts about nature cooperate in the explanation of moral law.

Book Natural Law in Jurisprudence and Politics

Download or read book Natural Law in Jurisprudence and Politics written by Mark C. Murphy and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-03-13 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural law is a perennial though poorly represented and understood issue in political philosophy and the philosophy of law. In this 2006 book, Mark C. Murphy argues that the central thesis of natural law jurisprudence - that law is backed by decisive reasons for compliance - sets the agenda for natural law political philosophy, demonstrating how law gains its binding force by way of the common good of the political community. Murphy's work ranges over the central questions of natural law jurisprudence and political philosophy, including the formulation and defense of the natural law jurisprudential thesis, the nature of the common good, the connection between the promotion of the common good and requirement of obedience to law, and the justification of punishment.

Can there ever be a rational explanation? The answers turn out to be one part scientific to three parts psychology. The world has changed a lot in the last 4000 years, but our brains haven't. So, again and again we find our reactions are just plain out of date. Why do you take the same wrong turning every single time? Why, when you lose something, do you keep looking in the same place over and over? And why is it suddenly there the twentieth time you look?
