Book A Chalice of Miracles

Download or read book A Chalice of Miracles written by John W. Casperson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-12-15 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An excerpt, "Miraculous power emanates when wisdom and moral strength and moral discipline determine words and actions that resonate with harmony of eternal morals as opposed to immediate temptations of egoic desire. Miraculous power emanates when we comfort or care for someone in need. Miraculous power of forgiveness can transform a life. Miraculous power of hope can generate a million possibilities. Miraculous power of honesty can cleanse guilt. Miraculous power of atonement can eliminate karmic debt. While miraculous power of faith can move mountains, we possess the miraculous inability to understand that faith is not “one size fits all.” There are many paths to the one Truth. Whether Christianity or Islam, religious faith can cause violence and strife among us. Miraculous power of reason can acknowledge that felicity and adversity are the keys of the same piano from which the harmony of life is comprised, and one Composer wrote the symphony. A miracle of empathy can bestow freedom on those who need understanding and knowledge upon those who endeavor to understand. A miracle of affectionate love can transform lover and loved. A physical expression of love can fashion a portal (conception) through which an infinite soul may once again choose to incarnate in order to experience the awe and mystery of life on this small planet amidst the backwaters of the universe. All these powers to be sure, rest within the Chalice of Miracles, the Holy Grail of our bodies that cradles conscience and nurtures within us a creative impulse that impels us toward Divinity."

Book Artful Immorality Variants of Cynicism

Download or read book Artful Immorality Variants of Cynicism written by Daniel Scott Mayfield and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-09-14 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a term is overused, it tends to fall out of fashion. Cynicism seems to be an exception. Its polytropic versatility apparently prevents any discontinuation of its application. Everyone knows that cynicism denotes that which is deemed deleterious at a given time; and every time will specify its toxicities – the apparent result being the term’s non-specificity. This study describes the cynical stance and statement so as to render the term’s use scholarly expedient. Close readings of textual sources commonly deemed cynical provide a legible starting point. A rhetorical analysis of aphorisms ascribed to the arch-Cynic Diogenes facilitates describing the design of cynical statements, as well as the characteristic features of the cynical stance. These patterns are identifiable in later texts generally labeled cynical – above all in Machiavelli’s Principe. With recourse to the Diogenical archetype, cynicism is likewise rendered describable in Gracián’s Oráculo manual, Diderot’s Le neveu de Rameau, and Nietzsche’s Posthumous Fragments. This study’s description of cynicism provides a phenomenon otherwise considered amorphous with distinct contours, renders transparent its workings, and tenders a dependable basis for further analyses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: the body / knows what / it truly / wants yet / the mind / wavers all In Edward Carson’s provocative new work, the poetic moving parts of movingparts confront and breathe new life into what’s true and what’s not in Aesop’s fable "The Fox and the Crow," as well as the shifting, often fragmentary ground between what’s said and what’s not about identity and intimacy in Sappho’s lyrics. Reflecting the moment-to-moment ways our minds think, these poems take us from a creative process of disconnection and reassembly to a sonic pacing of words arising out of their stillness on the page. A flair for syntactical compression is found throughout, balanced by a capricious yet transforming diction, what John Ashbery described as seeking to stretch “the bond between language and communication.” Calling witness to the narratives of history while pivoting their reach forward to the present, the rhythms, allusions, and resulting outcomes of Carson’s use of language expand both narrative and discovery. movingparts is brought full circle when an unexpected historical connection between Sappho and Aesop is revealed, hinting that what is true or false in the past or present of our lives can arrive at an intimacy with and illumination of more than we imagine.
