Book Multivariate Analysis to get an Estimate of the Indian Stock Market Nifty Index

Download or read book Multivariate Analysis to get an Estimate of the Indian Stock Market Nifty Index written by Rajveer Rawlin and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-11-22 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: The Indian stock market S and P CNX Nifty Index (Nifty) is a well diversified index of 50 companies. Foreign Institutional Investors (FII’s), wield significant influence over daily trading volumes in both the spot and derivative segments in the Indian markets. This tends to impact market volatility and returns. This study attempted to study the effect of FII transaction amounts, derivative turn over amounts and volatility on the performance of the Nifty index. A strong correlation was observed between derivative turnover and the Nifty but the correlation was relatively weaker between the Nifty and FII transaction amounts and Volatility. FII and F&O activity established important tops ahead of major tops in the Nifty. Volatility remained low during periods of significant upside in the stock market but spiked up during market declines. Linear and Non-linear models using multivariate analysis were fit to estimate the Nifty from the respective independent variables. A non linear model involving all three variables provided the best fit and the least deviation from actual values suggesting that interplay of these and other factors drive the performance of the index. Keywords: Nifty, FII transaction amounts, F&O turnover, Volatility, Nifty forecasting, Linear and Non Linear Models.

Book Forecasting India s NIFTY IT Index

Download or read book Forecasting India s NIFTY IT Index written by Rajveer Rawlin and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this research is to forecast the following day's closing price for a specific share of a company in the stock market using the "Hidden Markov Model". In this paper, the "Hidden Markov Model" is used to predict some of the stocks of interconnected airline markets. The researchers have developed the "Hidden Markov Model" for forecasting time series. As a result of its ability to model dynamic systems, this model is widely used for the recognition of model and problem classifications. In this article, the researchers examined trends in the historical data set. They inserted the appropriate neighboring prices to the datasets and predicted the next day's exchange. Data collection was secondary. The secondary market was collected from Southwest Airlines for 1.5 years (approximately) from September 17, 2002, to December 16, 2004. The observations of the input data are continuous rather than discrete. The sample size is 4 airline firms (British Airlines, Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Ryanair Holdings Ltd.) The NIFTY IT index captures the performance of the Indian Information Technology (IT) companies. The NIFTY IT index consists of 10 companies listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The IT sector in India has been recording tremendous growth over the years, where it accounts for a growth rate of 7.5 percent per annum. Time series analysis is a statistical tool that can be used in forecasting the prices of financial assets. In the current study, the NIFTY IT index was forecasted from past data collected over a 10 year period spanning from 2011 to 2020. An ARIMA model is fit and used to forecast the NIFTY IT index. Forecasted values were different from actual prices, suggesting that more influencing independent variables must be include, to improve the model accuracy.

Book The Effectiveness of Monetary Policy Transmission Under Capital Inflows

Download or read book The Effectiveness of Monetary Policy Transmission Under Capital Inflows written by Ms.Sonali Jain-Chandra and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2012-11-02 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effectiveness of the monetary policy transmission mechanism in open economies could be impaired if interest rates are driven primarily by global factors, especially during periods of large capital inflows. The main objective of this paper is to assess whether this is true for emerging Asia’s economies. Using a dynamic factor model and a structural vector auto-regression model, we show that long-term interest rates in Asia are indeed predominantly driven by global factors. However, monetary policy transmission mechanism remains effective in the region, as it operates predominantly through short-term interest rates. Nevertheless, the monetary transmission mechanism, though effective, is somewhat weaker in Asia during the periods of surges in capital inflows.

This book was released on 2015-08-20 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: B, University of Bedfordshire, language: English, abstract: This theory into practice report is written on the topic of ‘Identifying certain characteristics of marketing strategy for Indian software development companies in entering Western European market’. Main aim of this report is to identify certain characteristics that would permit Indian software companies to develop successful marketing strategies. It has been analysed that India has managed to hold India dominant position around the world in the software development field. It has been observed that the growth intensity of Indian software development industry is much higher than countries. It seemed to be difficult task for the companies to formulate strategies for entering foreign market for the very first time. And for this purpose these companies would have make several decision during this process. Usually, the process of foreign market entry follows different phases. When a company decides to make entry into foreign market, at a first stage if would have to decide which market shout it have to enter. When the particular market is selected then the company would to analyse that what sort of entry mode will be pursued. And at the last stage, the company would have to follow the operationalising of the market process. It has been learned that currently most of Indian software companies have been focused on providing general software development services rather than products. It has also been ascertained that when Western European companies would decide to outsource their projects/services to Indian software companies then they would intend on the utilisation of an offshore development center. it has been examined that certain problems (like differences in efficiency, meeting quality standards and deadlines) could be faced by the Indian software development companies while entering Western European market. It has been intended that there are six characteristics (lower psychical distance, developing relationships, acquiring knowledge about the target market, maintaining relationships with partners, reducing the price of its marketing offerings and determining its asset investment & risks) of marketing strategy that should be followed by Indian software development companies for making successful entry into the Western European market.

Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1.3, University of Frankfurt (Main), language: English, abstract: The field of household finance is confronted with the phenomena called "stock market participation puzzle" (Haliassos, 2003) which describes that most households do not hold stocks, despite that there are higher expected returns on stocks than on risk free assets (Haliassos, 2003). According to Haliassos and Bertaut (1995), 75% of households in the United States do not own stocks directly although returns on equity exceed the returns on risk free assets. This issue does not only concern households themselves, financial intermediaries, and stock issuers. It is also relevant for questions concerning privatisation, asset pricing, and tax rates on capital gains (Haliassos and Bertaut, 1995). The participation rate can directly affect the equity premium as argued by Mankiw and Zeldes (1991), and Heaton and Lucas (1999). Stock market participation in this seminar thesis refers to households participating in the market by holding stocks, excluding retirement accounts. The purpose is to demonstrate five factors discussed in financial literature that contribute to solve the stock market participation puzzle or reasons why limited stock market participation can be observed: Deviation from standard expected utility (Haliassos, 2003; Epstein and Zin, 1990; Haliassos and Hassapis, 1999; Diecidue and Wakker, 2001; Haliassos and Bertaut, 1995), more restricted borrowing constraints (Constantinides, Donaldson, and Mehra, 2002; Cocco, Gomes, and Maenhout, 2005; Haliassos, 2003), participation and entry costs (Guiso and Japelli, 2004; Gollier, 2002; Haliassos and Michaelides, 2003; Paiella, 2001; Vissing-Jorgensen, 2002; Haliassos, 2003), lack of financial awareness (Guiso and Jappelli, 2004), and financial illiteracy (van Rooij, Lusardi, and Alessie, 2007; Arrondel, Debbich, and Savignac, 2012; King and Leape, 1987).

Download or read book Analysis and Evaluation of the Eurex Repo Market Model written by Monika Gruber and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2004-12-29 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1,3 (A), University of Innsbruck (Banking & Finance), language: English, abstract: Europe is a leading world centre for financial markets alongside North America and the Far East. European securities exchanges play a vital role in these markets by providing companies with the opportunity to raise capital and by giving both private and institutional investors the opportunity to invest. There have been three major developments that characterise the changes in the European Exchange landscape over the past twenty years: the globalisation of financial markets, the revolutionary developments of technology, and European regulation. A growing number of companies and banks wish to raise capital in more than one country. Investors too are looking at integrated or interconnected international markets in order to maximise their return and spread their capital risk. Long term developments such as the introduction of the euro, the spread of privatisation, the growing number of pan-European mergers and the rise of the retail investor have encouraged closer cooperation and, in some cases, the integration of Europe’s formerly diverse and separate equity markets. At the same time, over the past decade, every European exchange membership has undergone a major transformation. Most have opened up to foreign-owned intermediaries. Trading is executed electronically, often from overseas. European securities exchanges have risen to these challenges in a number of ways. Several exchanges increased the number of hours during which trading can take place to enhance access. They also introduced market-making and block-trading to increase liquidity. Additionally, order handling and execution systems were refined in order to boost efficiency and to reduce settlement times. Most exchanges also improved information systems to increase transparency and access. By developing new and imaginative investment instruments investment options have been enhanced. Thus, the European exchanges of today rightly present themselves as modern, high-tech enterprises. In several European countries, whole securities market services groups have grown around the traditional exchanges. With very few exceptions, the national derivatives markets are generally found today under the same roof as the national cash markets. Some of these groups even integrated their national clearing and settlement institutions, their IT provider, information distribution services and others. [...]
