Book Multisystem inflammatory syndrome MIS C in Children A Comprehensive Review

Download or read book Multisystem inflammatory syndrome MIS C in Children A Comprehensive Review written by Dr. Hakim. K. Saboowala and published by Dr.Hakim Saboowala. This book was released on with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) in Children. A Comprehensive Review. An association between a novel pediatric hyperinflammatory condition and SARS-CoV-2 was recently published and termed pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome, temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) or multisystem inflammatory syndrome (in children) (MIS(-C)). Additionally, the sensitivity of different case definitions that are currently applied were studied. o PIMS-TS/MIS(-C) presents at a median age of 8 years. o Epidemiological enrichment for males (58.9%) and ethnic minorities (37.0% Black) is present. o Apart from obesity (25.3%), comorbidities are rare. PIMS-TS/MIS(-C) is characterized by fever, gastrointestinal and cardiocirculatory manifestations, and increased inflammatory biomarkers. Nevertheless, 50.3% present respiratory symptoms as well. Over half of patients (56.3%) present with shock. The majority of the patients (73.3%) need intensive care treatment, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in 3.8%. Despite severe disease, mortality is rather low. Of the currently used case definitions, the WHO definition is preferred, as it is more precise, while encompassing most cases. An attempt has been made in this Booklet to present the systematic review the most extensive to date to recent knowledge and to describe the epidemiological, clinical diagnostic criteria and clinical manifestations of this novel pediatric COVID-19-associated phenotype. …Dr. H. Book Reopening K 12 Schools During the COVID 19 Pandemic

Download or read book Reopening K 12 Schools During the COVID 19 Pandemic written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-11-08 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to the nation's K-12 education system. The rush to slow the spread of the virus led to closures of schools across the country, with little time to ensure continuity of instruction or to create a framework for deciding when and how to reopen schools. States, districts, and schools are now grappling with the complex and high-stakes questions of whether to reopen school buildings and how to operate them safely if they do reopen. These decisions need to be informed by the most up-to-date evidence about the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19; about the impacts of school closures on students and families; and about the complexities of operating school buildings as the pandemic persists. Reopening K-12 Schools During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Prioritizing Health, Equity, and Communities provides guidance on the reopening and operation of elementary and secondary schools for the 2020-2021 school year. The recommendations of this report are designed to help districts and schools successfully navigate the complex decisions around reopening school buildings, keeping them open, and operating them safely.

Download or read book Know Your Remedies written by He Bian and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced in various forms for more than a thousand years. Practitioners may heal patients with herbal remedies, acupuncture, massage, exercise, and modified diets. Even today, herbal medicines are of particular importance; Chinese pharmacies containing a vast array of remedies can be found in cities and towns the world over. This book is an interdisciplinary and cultural history of the concept of "pharmacy," both the drugs themselves and the trade in medicine, during the Ming and Qing dynasties of early modern China. This was a time of change for traditional Chinese medicine and for Chinese science as a whole. Many historians have argued that sixteenth-century China was a high point of scientific inquiry, followed by a period of intellectual decline. Though political and intellectual shifts led to a crisis of authority over pharmaceutical knowledge in the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries, Bian argues that this period of supposed intellectual decline was in fact characterized by numerous efforts to further refine and spread the pharmacological knowledge amassed in the Ming dynasty. She draws on a wide range of primary sources, but particularly through the study of bencao (pronounced "pen ts'ao"), a genre of encyclopaedic works, often called matteria medica or pharmacopoeia in the West, that collect information on medicinal substances. As the early modern Chinese Empire expanded and print culture became more widespread, the pursuit of medical remedies became a significant commercial enterprise. The author connects theory and practice of pharmacy during the Ming and Qing dynasties to broader developments in intellectual history, book culture, commerce, and taxation"--
