Book Multistage Radial Impeller Pump Part i Design Fabrication and Test

Download or read book Multistage Radial Impeller Pump Part i Design Fabrication and Test written by ROCKETDYNE CANOGA PARK CALIF. and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high-pressure (5000 to 6000 psi) liquid hydrogen pump was designed, constructed, and tested. The pump consisted of a conventional inducer-impeller combination followed by two radial rows of stators and rotors and an impulse rotor. The impulse rotor discharged into a vaned diffuser where the flow was collected by 4 discharge cones. The pump was of the dual-entry type for the purpose of balancing the thrust resulting from the high pressures. The pump was tested up to 65 percent of its design speed, was (under normal running conditions) free of oscillations; no mechanical problems were evident. However, fixed orifices that were used at the discharge flanges of the cones to reduce the pressure to a value consistent with the stress limits of the facility ducting caused intolerable oscillations; consequently, testing was discontinued. The data obtained, when extrapolated by the affinity laws to design speed, indicated that a maximum pressure of 3100 psi would have been obtained. The peak efficiency was 53 percent. Analysis indicated that the diffuser downstream of the rotor did not function properly. The inducer impeller and the radial stages performed practically as predicted and also the discharge cone diffused efficiently. Practically all losses which account for the low discharge pressure occurred in the section between rotor discharge and the discharge cone. (Author).

Book Multistage Radial Impeller Pump Part Ii Optimization Study of Pump Types

Download or read book Multistage Radial Impeller Pump Part Ii Optimization Study of Pump Types written by ROCKETDYNE CANOGA PARK CA. and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical study was made of high-pressure liquid hydrogen pumps to compare axial flow, centrifugal, and multistaged radial pumps. A limited literature search was made in the field of liquid hydrogen technology, yielding a background for the present study. Vehicle coupled turbopump design characteristics (required NPSH, power requirements, stability margin, length and diameter, scaling rules) are discussed. A comparison of weight, efficiency, pressure rise capability, throttling range, and tip speeds are presented.

Book excerpt: Centrifugal Pumps: Design and Application, Second Edition focuses on the design of chemical pumps, composite materials, manufacturing techniques employed in nonmetallic pump applications, mechanical seals, and hydraulic design. The publication first offers information on the elements of pump design, specific speed and modeling laws, and impeller design. Discussions focus on shape of head capacity curve, pump speed, viscosity, specific gravity, correction for impeller trim, model law, and design suggestions. The book then takes a look at general pump design, volute design, and design of multi-stage casing. The manuscript examines double-suction pumps and side-suction design, net positive suction head, and vertical pumps. Topics include configurations, design features, pump vibration, effect of viscosity, suction piping, high speed pumps, and side suction and suction nozzle layout. The publication also ponders on high speed pumps, double-case pumps, hydraulic power recovery turbines, and shaft design and axial thrust. The book is a valuable source of data for pump designers, students, and rotating equipment engineers.

Book Design and Fabrication of a Vertical Pump Multiphase Flow Loop

Download or read book Design and Fabrication of a Vertical Pump Multiphase Flow Loop written by Klayton Edward Kirkland and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new centrifugal pump has been devised to handle two-phase flow. However, it requires full scale testing to allow further development. Testing is required to verify performance and to gain information needed to apply this design in the field. Further, testing will allow mathematical models to be validated which will allow increased understanding of the pump's behavior. To perform this testing, a new facility was designed and constructed. This facility consists of a closed flow loop. The pump is supplied by separate air and water inlet flows that mix just before entering the pump. These flows can be controlled to give a desired gas volume fraction and overall flow rate. The pump outlet flows into a tank which separates the fluids allowing them to re-circulate. Operating inlet pressures of up to three hundred PSIG will be used with a flow rate of twelve hundred gallons per minute. A two-hundred fifty horsepower electric motor is used to power the pump. The loop is equipped with instrumentation to measure temperature, pressure, flow rate, pump speed, pump shaft horsepower, shaft torque, and shaft axial load. The pump itself has a clear inlet section and a clear section allowing visualization of the second stage volute interior as well as numerous pressure taps along the second stage volute. This instrumentation is sufficient to completely characterize the pump. Design and construction details are provided as well as a history of the initial operating experiences and data collected. A discussion of lessons learned is given in the conclusions. Future projects intended to use this facility are also given. Finally, detailed design drawings are supplied as well as operating instructions and checklists. The electronic version of this dissertation is accessible from http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/148339
