Book Energy Related Material Flow Simulation in Production and Logistics

Download or read book Energy Related Material Flow Simulation in Production and Logistics written by Sigrid Wenzel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides for the first time an overview on the current approaches and applications of energy aspects in production and logistics by the use of simulation techniques. During the last decade, the importance of energy in the material flow processes has become more and more important. The pressure to reduce the environmental footprint of production and logistics systems will even intensify in future. Therefore, enterprises have started to integrate the use of energy into their planning processes much more than before, even designing feedback loops, e.g., from energy control to production control. This receives additional attention with the increasing use of renewable, but less reliable, energy sources. Care must be taken to establish processes that aim to use energy when it is available. As an example, many industrial processes like melting or coating have significant energy demands, but could vary the point of time of its consumption within specific limits, leading to a very high complexity. It discusses the construction and application of energy-specific performance indicators and analyzes the input information that needs to be acquired before implementing suitable models. On this basis, concrete technical solutions are introduced.

Book Multiscale Modeling of Degradation in Lithium ion Batteries

Download or read book Multiscale Modeling of Degradation in Lithium ion Batteries written by Fridolin Röder and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive methodology for multiscale simulation of degradation in lithium-ion batteries. The work helps to understand battery degradation processes by revealing complex multiscale effects, which cannot be taken into account by single-scale models. A novel numerical method is presented, which dynamically couples molecular models based on kinetic Monte Carlo method with macroscopic models. Moreover, the work provides mathematical models of degradation on various length scales, e.g. heterogeneous side reactions on molecular scale and the restructuring of particle size distributions on electrode scale. Instead of describing processes separately, the multiscale methodology systematically analyzes interaction of degradation processes and cell operation. The presented methodology is certainly applicable to other electrochemical systems with considerable multi-scale nature.

Book Physical Multiscale Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Electrochemical Devices for Energy Conversion and Storage

Download or read book Physical Multiscale Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Electrochemical Devices for Energy Conversion and Storage written by Alejandro A. Franco and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-12 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to review innovative physical multiscale modeling methods which numerically simulate the structure and properties of electrochemical devices for energy storage and conversion. Written by world-class experts in the field, it revisits concepts, methodologies and approaches connecting ab initio with micro-, meso- and macro-scale modeling of components and cells. It also discusses the major scientific challenges of this field, such as that of lithium-ion batteries. This book demonstrates how fuel cells and batteries can be brought together to take advantage of well-established multi-scale physical modeling methodologies to advance research in this area. This book also highlights promising capabilities of such approaches for inexpensive virtual experimentation. In recent years, electrochemical systems such as polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cells, water electrolyzers, lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors have attracted much attention due to their potential for clean energy conversion and as storage devices. This has resulted in tremendous technological progress, such as the development of new electrolytes and new engineering designs of electrode structures. However, these technologies do not yet possess all the necessary characteristics, especially in terms of cost and durability, to compete within the most attractive markets. Physical multiscale modeling approaches bridge the gap between materials’ atomistic and structural properties and the macroscopic behavior of a device. They play a crucial role in optimizing the materials and operation in real-life conditions, thereby enabling enhanced cell performance and durability at a reduced cost. This book provides a valuable resource for researchers, engineers and students interested in physical modelling, numerical simulation, electrochemistry and theoretical chemistry.

Book Multi scale Modeling of Batteries and Supercapacitors

Download or read book Multi scale Modeling of Batteries and Supercapacitors written by Alejandro Franco and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-12-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the topic of modeling and numerical simulation of electrochemical devices type batteries and supercapacitors through various theoretical approaches, each aiming a description of physico-chemical phenomena occurring at different temporal and spatial scales. The application of these methods to the analysis of experimental characterization and interpretation of redox and transport mechanisms occurring in current electrochemical devices is illustrated with concrete examples in each Section. Special attention is given to the application of some of these approaches to the simulation of manufacturing composite electrodes and the technical multiscale modeling which allow, as their name suggests, to take into account within the same formalism of events occurring at different scales. These emerging methods aim to translate the microscopic properties of the various elements used in electrochemical devices at the macroscopic behavior of the whole cell in operating conditions. All the available methods and methodological bolts remaining to be exercised are also discussed.

Book The Multi Agent Transport Simulation MATSim

Download or read book The Multi Agent Transport Simulation MATSim written by Andreas Horni and published by Ubiquity Press. This book was released on 2016-08-10 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MATSim (Multi-Agent Transport Simulation) software project was started around 2006 with the goal of generating traffic and congestion patterns by following individual synthetic travelers through their daily or weekly activity programme. It has since then evolved from a collection of stand-alone C++ programs to an integrated Java-based framework which is publicly hosted, open-source available, automatically regression tested. It is currently used by about 40 groups throughout the world. This book takes stock of the current status. The first part of the book gives an introduction to the most important concepts, with the intention of enabling a potential user to set up and run basic simulations. The second part of the book describes how the basic functionality can be extended, for example by adding schedule-based public transit, electric or autonomous cars, paratransit, or within-day replanning. For each extension, the text provides pointers to the additional documentation and to the code base. It is also discussed how people with appropriate Java programming skills can write their own extensions, and plug them into the MATSim core. The project has started from the basic idea that traffic is a consequence of human behavior, and thus humans and their behavior should be the starting point of all modelling, and with the intuition that when simulations with 100 million particles are possible in computational physics, then behavior-oriented simulations with 10 million travelers should be possible in travel behavior research. The initial implementations thus combined concepts from computational physics and complex adaptive systems with concepts from travel behavior research. The third part of the book looks at theoretical concepts that are able to describe important aspects of the simulation system; for example, under certain conditions the code becomes a Monte Carlo engine sampling from a discrete choice model. Another important aspect is the interpretation of the MATSim score as utility in the microeconomic sense, opening up a connection to benefit cost analysis. Finally, the book collects use cases as they have been undertaken with MATSim. All current users of MATSim were invited to submit their work, and many followed with sometimes crisp and short and sometimes longer contributions, always with pointers to additional references. We hope that the book will become an invitation to explore, to build and to extend agent-based modeling of travel behavior from the stable and well tested core of MATSim documented here.
