Book Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator MACS Year Three Report

Download or read book Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator MACS Year Three Report written by Jon P. Hunt and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report details research conducted on the Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator (MACS) system during the third year of a three-year system development contract. The MACS system is a low-cost, computer-based, part-task weapons trainer that was initially developed to facilitate the teaching of rifle marksmanship, but has the potential to train soldiers on other weapons. It comprises a weapon (e.g., an M16 rifle) with a light pen attached to the barrel and a Commodore 64 computer. Targets are displayed on the computer screen at specified ranges; the user may zero the weapon and then practice marksmanship. Diagnostic feedback is provided. The system has been validated as a teaching device. Research in the third year of the contract has focused on software development in four areas: (1) a 10-level Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) cartridge, (2) an 8-level Advanced Rifle Marksmanship (ARM) cartridge, (3) preliminary development of a cartridge for unit rifle marksmanship training, and (4) development of a program for the M136 anti-armor weapon (AT-4). In addition, minor software modifications were made to the system's demonstration program. Keywords: Flow charting, Computer program documentation, Computer architecture. (kr).

This Moving Target Trainer's Guide details a MACS cartridge that provides instruction on engagement of moving targets and gives several levels of practice that gradually increase skill and knowledge requirements. The guide also offers helpful instructor recommendation to assist trainers. The program cartridge and the accompanying copy of the Trainer's Guide for the Commodore computer version of Moving Target MACS are available through the Fort Benning Training Support Center.

Book Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System

Download or read book Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System written by Joseph D. Hagman and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This research compared the relative impact of two approaches for training Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM). One hundred and eighty four One-Station Unit Training (OSUT) infantry trainees (i.e., the experimental group) trained under a U.S. Army Reserve (USAR)-developed, device-based (i.e., the Beamhit Laser Marksmanship Training System LMTS) approach, and 202 infantry trainees (i.e., the control group) trained under the standard U.S. Army Infantry School BRM program of instruction. Results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on shot grouping, weapon zeroing, and known-distance firing. No between-group differences were found, however, for record fire qualification scores or for performance during pop-up target engagement practice periods leading up to qualification. The implications of these findings for initial marksmanship training are discussed along with plans for follow-up USAR-sponsored research to assess (a) the impact of LMTS-based training on sustainment performance, and (b) the feasibility of using LMTS-based performance to predict live-fire qualification scores."--Stinet.

Book Joint Service Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator JMACS User Guide

Download or read book Joint Service Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator JMACS User Guide written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator (MACS) is a part-task weapons trainer that consists of a microcomputer, video monitor, program cartridge, and long-range light pen mounted to a demilitarized weapon. Although designed to provide inexpensive training with a variety of weapon systems, interest has focused largely on its use as a rifle marksmanship trainer. Because of U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force interest in the potential applications of MACS technology in their respective weapons training programs, a 2-year Joint Service MACS (JMACS) program was initiated in 1986. The JMACS User Guide was developed to support instructor training before user testing in each Service. It presents information on system assembly, operation, and troubleshooting. Features of JMACS training software and associated performance standards also are described. Keywords: M16 Rifle; Rifle marksmanship; Training devices.

Book Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator Development to Improve Soldier Shooting Skills with the M16A3 Rifle

Download or read book Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator Development to Improve Soldier Shooting Skills with the M16A3 Rifle written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides details of the effort (February to December 1991) to produce a Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator (MACS) program for the M16 rifle with telescope (Ml6A3). Because the Army delayed selection of a telescope, all aspects of the program could not be completed; programs were developed using the telescope reticle with the highest probability of selection. The program may be fired with telescope or iron sights. It reviews basic marksmanship, the long-range engagement of stationary and moving targets, the effects of wind, and the combined effects of range, wind, and target movement.
