Book Coded Modulation Techniques for Fading Channels

Download or read book Coded Modulation Techniques for Fading Channels written by Seyed Hamidreza Jamali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coded-Modulation Techniques for Fading Channels provides the reader with a sound background for the application of bandwidth-efficient coded-modulation techniques in fading channels. The book systematically presents recent developments in the field, which has grown rapidly in recent years, and provides a solid frame of reference for further research in this area. During the past decade there has been a proliferation of research in the area of bandwidth-efficient coded-modulation techniques. The primary advantage of these schemes over modulation schemes employing traditional error correcting codes is their ability to improve the performance of the communication system without bandwidth expansion. This property makes them a suitable choice for channels which are limited in both power and bandwidth. A typical example of such channels is a mobile satellite channel, where it is desired to accommodate a large number of users in a given bandwidth with a power which is constrained by the physical size of the satellite and by the vehicle's antenna. Coded-Modulation Techniques for Fading Channels is an excellent reference for researchers and practicing engineers, and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the subject.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 39 (thesis year 1994) a total of 13,953 thesis titles from 21 Canadian and 159 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 39 reports theses submitted in 1994, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation

Download or read book Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation written by Leszek Szczecinski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-16 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a thorough overview of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), this book introduces the tools for the analysis and design of BICM transceivers. It explains in details the functioning principles of BICM and proposes a refined probabilistic modeling of the reliability metrics–the so-called L-values–which are at the core of the BICM receivers. Alternatives for transceiver design based on these models are then studied. Providing new insights into the analysis of BICM, this book is unique in its approach, providing a general framework for analysis and design, focusing on communication theoretic aspects of BICM transceivers. It adopts a tutorial approach, explains the problems in simple terms with the aid of multiple examples and case studies, and provides solutions using accessible mathematical tools. The book will be an excellent resource for researchers in academia and industry: graduate students, academics, development engineers, and R & D managers. Key Features: Presents an introduction to BICM, placing it in the context of other coded modulation schemes Offers explanations of the functioning principles and design alternatives Provides a unique approach, focusing on communication theory aspects Shows examples and case studies to illustrate analysis and design of BICM Adopts a tutorial approach, explaining the problems in simple terms and presenting solutions using accessible mathematical tools

Book Analysis of the Error Performance of Trellis coded Modulations in Rayleigh Fading Channels

Download or read book Analysis of the Error Performance of Trellis coded Modulations in Rayleigh Fading Channels written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trellis-coded modulation (TCM), when combined with interleaving, is known to give good error performance in fading channels. Previously, the only analytical guide was an upper bound, which could be very loose over the range of the signal to noise ratio of interest. This paper presents an exact expression for the pairwise error event probability of TCM transmitted over Rayleigh fading channels. It includes PSK and multilevel QAM codes, as well as coherent and partially coherent detection. The paper also studies several coded modulation schemes this way.

Book Wireless Personal Communications

Download or read book Wireless Personal Communications written by Theodore S. Rappaport and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Well informed people know it is impossible to transmit the voice over wires, and that were it possible to do so, the thing would be ofno practical value. " from an editorial in the Boston Post -1865 Fortunately for the telecommunications industry, the unknown author of the above statement turned out to be very mistaken indeed. Even as he spoke, Alexander Graham Bell was achieving the impossible, with a host of competing inventors close behind. The communications revolution which ensued has changed the way in which we live and work, and the way in which we view the world around us. Wired telephone lines now encircle the globe, allowing instantaneous transmission of voice and data. Events from Times Square to Red Square are now as accessible as events on the local courthouse lawn. The advent of wireless communications has extended Bell's revolution to another domain. Personal communications promises voice, data and images which are accessible everywhere. Although predictions are dangerous, a look back over the last decade reveals spectacular growth. In the United States alone, there are now over 50 million cordless phones in use throughout the country -at least one cordless phone for every 3 households - and nearly 20 million pocket pagers. U. S. Cellular telephone service, launched commercially in 1984, has experienced 30-40% annual growth rates despite a sluggish economy.

Book Near Capacity Multi Functional MIMO Systems

Download or read book Near Capacity Multi Functional MIMO Systems written by Lajos Hanzo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-05-11 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an all-encompassing self-contained treatment of Near-Capacity Multi-Functional MIMO Systems , the book starts by categorizing the family of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) schemes as diversity techniques, multiplexing schemes, multiple access arrangements and beam-forming techniques. Sophisticated coherent and low-complexity non-coherent MIMO receivers dispensing with channel estimation are considered in both classic and cooperation-aided scenarios. It is demonstrated that in the presence of correlated shadow-fading, cooperation-assisted systems may be expected to outperform their non-cooperative counterparts. The book contains a 100-page chapter on the unified treatment of all block codes in the context of high-flexibility, cutting-edge irregular Linear Dispersion Codes (LDC), which approach the MIMO-capacity. The majority of the book’s solutions are in the optimum sphere-packing frame-work. Sophisticated amalgam of five year’s near-capacity MIMO research Detailed examination of wireless landscape, including the fields of channel coding, spacetime coding and turbo detection techniques Novel tool of Extrinsic Information Transfer Charts (EXIT) used to address recent developments Material presented logically, allowing advanced readers to turn directly to any specific chapter of interest One of the only books to cover these subjects, giving equal weighting to each
