Book Waves with Power Law Attenuation

Download or read book Waves with Power Law Attenuation written by Sverre Holm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates concepts from physical acoustics with those from linear viscoelasticity and fractional linear viscoelasticity. Compressional waves and shear waves in applications such as medical ultrasound, elastography, and sediment acoustics often follow power law attenuation and dispersion laws that cannot be described with classical viscous and relaxation models. This is accompanied by temporal power laws rather than the temporal exponential responses of classical models. The book starts by reformulating the classical models of acoustics in terms of standard models from linear elasticity. Then, non-classical loss models that follow power laws and which are expressed via convolution models and fractional derivatives are covered in depth. In addition, parallels are drawn to electromagnetic waves in complex dielectric media. The book also contains historical vignettes and important side notes about the validity of central questions. While addressed primarily to physicists and engineers working in the field of acoustics, this expert monograph will also be of interest to mathematicians, mathematical physicists, and geophysicists.

Book Multiple Attenuation Via Wavefield Transformations

Download or read book Multiple Attenuation Via Wavefield Transformations written by Matthew Gordon Lamont and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic multiples are a serious hindrance to hydrocarbon exploration in Australia. In particular, water bottom multiples can be very difficult to attenuate. This is because there often exists a strongly reflective sea floor which gives multiples large amplitudes when compared with the primary events they overlay, and secondly, because of a widely occurring velocity inversion, which seriously reduces the effectiveness of a very important class of multiple attenuation techniques.

Book Coding and Decoding Seismic Data

Download or read book Coding and Decoding Seismic Data written by Luc T. Ikelle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-03-29 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, the acquisition of seismic surveys is performed as a sequential operation in which shots are computed separately, one after the other. This approach is similar to that of multiple-access technology, which is widely used in cellular communications to allow several subscribers to share the same telephone line. The cost of performing various shots simultaneously is almost identical to that of one shot; thus, the savings in time and money expected from using the multishooting approach for computing seismic surveys compared to the current approach are enormous. By using this approach, the long-standing problem of simulating a three-dimensional seismic survey can be reduced to a matter of weeks and not years, as is currently the case. - Investigates how to collect, stimulate, and process multishooting data - Addresses the improvements in seismic characterization and resolution one can expect from multishooting data - Aims to educate the oil and gas exploration and production business of the benefits of multishooting data, and to influence their day-to-day surveying techniques

Book excerpt: This book covers in detail the entire workflow for quantitative seismic interpretation of subsurface modeling and characterization. It focusses on each step of the geo-modeling workflow starting from data preconditioning and wavelet extraction, which is the basis for the reservoir geophysics described and introduced in the following chapters. This book allows the reader to get a comprehensive insight of the most common and advanced workflows. It aims at graduate students related to energy (hydrocarbons), CO2 geological storage, and near surface characterization as well as professionals in these industries. The reader benefits from the strong and coherent theoretical background of the book, which is accompanied with real case examples.

Download or read book Coronary Angiography written by Baskot Branislav and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the intervening 10 years tremendous advances in the field of cardiac computed tomography have occurred. We now can legitimately claim that computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the coronary arteries is available. In the evaluation of patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD), many guidelines today consider CTA an alternative to stress testing. The use of CTA in primary prevention patients is more controversial in considering diagnostic test interpretation in populations with a low prevalence to disease. However the nuclear technique most frequently used by cardiologists is myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). The combination of a nuclear camera with CTA allows for the attainment of coronary anatomic, cardiac function and MPI from one piece of equipment. PET/SPECT cameras can now assess perfusion, function, and metabolism. Assessing cardiac viability is now fairly routine with these enhancements to cardiac imaging. This issue is full of important information that every cardiologist needs to now.

Book Survey Design and Seismic Acquisition for Land Marine and In between in Light of New Technology and Techniques

Download or read book Survey Design and Seismic Acquisition for Land Marine and In between in Light of New Technology and Techniques written by David J. Monk and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic surveys are subject to many different design criteria, but often the parameters are established based on an outdated view of how data can be acquired and how it will be processed. This book highlights what is possible using modern acquisition methods, techniques, and equipment, and how these may impact seismic survey design and acquisition.

Book Attenuation of Incoherent Seismic Noise

Download or read book Attenuation of Incoherent Seismic Noise written by Abdullatif Al-Shuhail and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the effects of incoherent noise and how it leads to the misinterpretation of seismic data. It also reviews common noise reduction approaches and their drawbacks, focusing on developments that have occurred in the past decade. The main features of this book include: • Hands-on implementation in MATLAB and/or C • In-depth discussions of both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject • Supplementary, real-world seismic data • Detailed descriptions of structure-enhancing filters. Connecting the theory and practical implementation of noise reduction, the book helps readers fill the gap from equations to code, and from classical filters to the preservation and enhancement of a robust structure. Lastly, it highlights cutting-edge research in the area. As such, it is of interest to researchers in the fields of petroleum engineering, exploration seismology, and geophysics, as well as to practitioners working in the petroleum industry.
