Book High Resolution Spectroscopy and Dynamics of Multiphoton Processes in Atoms and Molecules

Download or read book High Resolution Spectroscopy and Dynamics of Multiphoton Processes in Atoms and Molecules written by P. M. Dehmer and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes research on resonantly enhanced multiphoton absorption dissociation, and ionization processes in atoms and molecules. Multiphoton processes are studied using from one to three independently tunable visible and/or UV laser beams in order to establish both the underlying physics and the high degree of selectivity of multiphoton processes. Measurements are made to probe both the formation of excited molecular states and the subsequent behavior of excited states either in the presence or in the abscence of further intense laser radiation. Detection methods include laser-induced fluorescence, ion mass analysis, and electron energy analysis. During the current reporting period, we have studied resonant multiphoton ionization processes for the molecules N2, CO, O2, NO, NeXe, ArXe, KrXe, and Xe2 and for the atoms C, I, and S using both mass spectrometry and photoelectron spectroscopy to analyze the products of the ionizations. In addition, we are developing three new instruments that will provide significantly enhanced resolution, collection efficiency, and versatility in both the ion mass and the electron kinetic energy detection channels. Keywords include: double resonance spectroscopy, electron spectroscopy, molecular beams, rydberg states; photoelectron angular, distributions. (Author).

Book Molecular Multiphoton Ionization

Download or read book Molecular Multiphoton Ionization written by G. n GIBSON and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonant multiphoton ionization (MPI) of nitrogen has been studied using photoelectron spectroscopy in the short-pulse regime. Both Rydberg and valence states are identified as intermediate resonances in the photoionization process, although the valence states are seen only at low intensity. It is shown that the vibrational structure of the Rydberg states acting as intermediate resonances cancels out in the photoelectron spectrum, leading to sharp atomic-like spectra, even at high intensities. Finally, the ionization of the 3 sigma sub g 1 pi sub u and 2 sigma sub u electrons are clearly distinguished.

Download or read book Multiphoton Processes written by P. Lambropoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters of this volume represent the invited papers delivered at the 3rd International Conference on Multiphoton Processes (ICOMP III) held in Iraklion, Crete, Greece, September 5-11, 1984. The invited papers at a conference like ICOMP cannot possibly cover the whole field which has grown to immense proportions in recent years, overlapping with such diverse areas as atomic and molecular spectroscopy, plasma physics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, etc. We believe these contributions represent that part of the research activity which has been attracting the most interest in the past year or so, as well as reviews of some of the more established topics. Even within this scope, and given the confines imposed by the fi nite duration of a conference, important and timely topics are inevitably left out. But then, there will be ICOMP IV. The collection of articles in this volume, combined with extensive ref erences to related work given by the authors, should provide an introduc tion to the major problems of the field and its state of the art. The chapters have been arranged according to thematic proximity, beginning with atoms, and continuing on with molecules and surfaces. This classi fication, however, would not cover all the subject matter even within the limited scope of the conference and of this volume.

Book Laser Photoionization Spectroscopy

Download or read book Laser Photoionization Spectroscopy written by Vladilen Letokhov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser Photoionization Spectroscopy discusses the features and the development of photoionization technique. This book explores the progress in the application of lasers, which improve the characteristics of spectroscopic methods. Organized into 12 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the fundamentals of the method for atoms and molecules. This text then examines the photoionization spectroscopy, which is based on the laser resonant excitation of particles into high-lying quantum states that are easy to detect by ionization. Other chapters explain the various basic schemes of multistep excitation, which can be used for resonance photoionization of molecules. This book discusses as well the different applications of the resonance photoionization technique in atomic and molecular spectroscopy. The final chapter considers the two well-known types of microscopy, namely, wave and corpuscular. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, physicists, analysts, and geochemists who are interested in laser spectroscopy techniques to solve nontrivial problems.

Book Multiphoton Ionization Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Xenon

Download or read book Multiphoton Ionization Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Xenon written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoelectron energy and angular distributions for resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) of xenon via the three-photon-allowed 7s(3/2)1° and 5d(3/2)1° states have been studied both experimentally and theoretically. The electron kinetic energy spectra give the probability of leaving Xe in either the 2P12 or 2P32 core. The measured branching ratio for leaving each ionic core is used to test the theoretical description of the REMPI process. Measurements of both the angular distributions and the (3+1) REMPI via the 5d state are adequately reproduced by multichannel quantum defect theory. However, measurements of angular distributions for the electrons resulting from (3+1) via the 7s(3/2)1° state into Xe/sup +/ 2P32 (core preserving) or Xe/sup +/ 2P12 (core changing) are in striking disagreement with theory. 1 ref., 2 figs.

Book The Multiphoton Ionization of Uranium Hexafluoride Revision 1

Download or read book The Multiphoton Ionization of Uranium Hexafluoride Revision 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphoton ionization (MPI) time-of-flight mass spectroscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy studies of UF6 have been conducted using focused light from the Nd:YAG laser fundamental ([lambda]=1064 nm) and its harmonics ([lambda]=532, 355, or 266 nm), as well as other wavelengths provided by a tunable dye laser. The MPI mass spectra are dominated by the singly and multiply charged uranium ions rather than by the UFx+ fragment ions even at the lowest laser power densities at which signal could be detected. The laser power dependence of Un+ ions signals indicates that saturation can occur for many of the steps required for their ionization. In general, the doubly-charged uranium ion (U2+) intensity is much greater than that of the singly-charged uranium ion (U+). For the case of the tunable dye laser experiments, the Un+ (n = 1- 4) wavelength dependence is relatively unstructured and does not show observable resonance enhancement at known atomic uranium excitation wavelengths. The dominance of the U2+ ion and the absence or very small intensities of UFx+ fragments, along with the unsaturated wavelength dependence, indicate that mechanisms may exist other than ionization of bare U atoms after the stepwise photodissociation of F atoms from the parent molecule.
