Book Multipath Routing Mechanisms for Traffic Engineering and Quality of Service in the Internet

Download or read book Multipath Routing Mechanisms for Traffic Engineering and Quality of Service in the Internet written by Srinivas Vutukury and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of the IP architecture is largely due to the simplicity, robustness and scalability that resulted from its the connectionless design methodology. As the Internet evolves it must support new services such as QoS and when extensions are made to the IP architecture to support such services, its basic connectionless model must be preserved to retain the scalability and robustness that made it so successful. In the past few years, with the Internet becoming the main communication infrastructure IP networks are faced with two challenging problems that require immediate attention: traffic, engineering and supporting guaranteed services providing efficient, robust and scalable solutions to these problems within the framework of the connectionless IP has become extremely important and urgent.

Book Handbook of Optimization in Complex Networks

Download or read book Handbook of Optimization in Complex Networks written by My T. Thai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-28 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex Social Networks is a newly emerging (hot) topic with applications in a variety of domains, such as communication networks, engineering networks, social networks, and biological networks. In the last decade, there has been an explosive growth of research on complex real-world networks, a theme that is becoming pervasive in many disciplines, ranging from mathematics and computer science to the social and biological sciences. Optimization of complex communication networks requires a deep understanding of the interplay between the dynamics of the physical network and the information dynamics within the network. Although there are a few books addressing social networks or complex networks, none of them has specially focused on the optimization perspective of studying these networks. This book provides the basic theory of complex networks with several new mathematical approaches and optimization techniques to design and analyze dynamic complex networks. A wide range of applications and optimization problems derived from research areas such as cellular and molecular chemistry, operations research, brain physiology, epidemiology, and ecology.

Book Tibetan Medicinal Plants

Download or read book Tibetan Medicinal Plants written by Christa Kletter and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 1402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, modern medicine relies on so called traditional or ancient medical knowledge. Holistic practices such as adhering to proper diet, observing rules for appropriate behavior, and administering medical preparations are coupled with the latest technology and methods to treat the whole patient. In light of this trend, there is much to be gained from understanding of one of the oldest medical systems still in existence. Tibetan Medicinal Plants provides you a detailed analysis of how Tibetan plants are used in this centuries old system. The book opens with a summary of Tibetan medicine and covers the various habitats in which the plants are found. The main part of this volume encompasses 60 monographs listed by the Tibetan plant name. Each monograph consists of several chapters addressing different topics related either to the Tibetan or the Western approach. Most of the monographs contain a description of the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the used plant parts, and anatomical features of 76 plants are provided. Each monograph presents an overview of the known chemical constituents and pharmacological properties of each plant and describes their use in Tibetan medicine. In contrast to other publications on Tibetan medicine, where translations of the Tibetan terms are given in other languages, this book treats the Tibetan word as a technical term, keeps the Tibetan term and explains its meaning, lessening confusion by reducing the number of translations. Traditional Tibetan medicine has been in existence for centuries. Curative practices existed in the prebuddistic era, and the art of healing developed more than 2500 years ago. Tibetan Medicinal Plants provides a comprehensive overview of all plant types, thus making it easier to grasp the Tibetan concept. It gives you a comprehensive look at this centuries old science.

Book Localized Quality of Service Routing for the Internet

Download or read book Localized Quality of Service Routing for the Internet written by Srihari Nelakuditi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exponential growth of Internet brings to focus the need to control such large scale networks so that they appear as coherent, almost intelligent, organ isms. It is a challenge to regulate such a complex network of heterogeneous elements with dynamically changing traffic conditions. To make such a sys tem reliable and manageable, the decision making should be decentralized. It is desirable to find simple local rules and strategies that can produce coherent and purposeful global behavior. Furthermore, these control mechanisms must be adaptive to effectively respond to continually varying network conditions. Such adaptive, distributed, localized mechanisms would provide a scalable so lution for controlling large networks. The need for such schemes arises in a variety of settings. In this monograph, we focus on localized approach to quality of service routing. Routing in the current Internet focuses primarily on connectivity and typi cally supports only the "best-effort" datagram service. The routing protocols deployed such as OSPF use the shortest path only routing paradigm, where routing is optimized for a single metric such as hop count or administrative weight. While these protocols are well suited for traditional data applications such as ftp and telnet, they are not adequate for many emerging applications such as IP telephony, video on demand and teleconferencing, which require stringent delay and bandwidth guarantees. The "shortest paths" chosen for the "best effort" service may not have sufficient resources to provide the requisite service for these applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers comprising Vol. I and Vol. II were prepared for and presented at the International Conference on Information Networking 2002 (ICOIN 2002), which was held from January 30 to February 1, 2002 at Cheju Island, Korea. It was organized by the KISS (Korean Information Science Society) SIGIN in Korea, IPSJ SIG DPE (Distributed Processing Systems) in Japan, the ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), and National Taiwan University in Taiwan. The papers were selected through two steps, refereeing and presentation review. We selected for the theme of the conference the motto “One World of Information Networking”. We did this because we believe that networking will transform the world into one zone, in spite of different ages, countries and societies. Networking is in the main stream of everyday life and affects directly millions of people around the world. We are in an era of tremendous excitement for professionals working in many aspects of the converging networking, information retailing, entertainment, and publishing companies. Ubiquitous communication and computing technologies are changing the world. Online communities, e commerce, e service, and distance learning are a few of the consequences of these technologies, and advanced networking will develop new applications and technologies with global impact. The goal is the creation of a world wide distributed computing system that connects people and appliances through wireless and high bandwidth wired channels with a backbone of computers that serve as databases and object servers. Thus, Vol.
