Book The New Multinationals

Download or read book The New Multinationals written by Mauro F. Guillén and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new breed of multinational companies is reshaping competition in global industries. For most of the 19th and 20th centuries, multinational firms came from the most technologically advanced countries in the world. Over the last two decades, however, new multinational firms from upper-middle-income economies such as Spain, Ireland, Portugal, South Korea or Taiwan, emerging economies like Brazil, Chile, Mexico, China, India or Turkey, developing countries such as Egypt, Indonesia or Thailand, and oil-rich countries like the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Russia or Venezuela have become formidable global competitors. These firms do not necessarily possess technological or marketing skills. This disadvantage, however, did not prevent them from expanding around the world. In contrast to the classic multinationals, they found strength in their ability to organize, manage, execute, and network. They pursued a variety of strategies of vertical integration, product diversification, learning by doing, exploration of new capabilities, and collaboration with other firms. This book documents the dimensions of this phenomenon, identifies the key capabilities of the new multinationals, and provides a new conceptual framework to understand its causes and implications.

Book The Marketer s Guide to Public Relations

Download or read book The Marketer s Guide to Public Relations written by Thomas L. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1991-02-07 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1990s will mark an era of intense competition, both domestically and globally; businesses must win a share of the consumer's mind and heart and build strong consumer awareness and preference. However, in today's ``overcommunicated'' society, mass and even target advertising lose some of their cost-effectiveness. That's where ``marketing public relations'' (MPR) comes in, making the most of the strength of news, events, community programs, and other powerful communication modalities. Covers this emerging trend in public relations, showing not only why MPR helped companies gain a competitive edge, but also how it is used by its most sophisticated practitioners to get maximum mileage from product introductions, special events marketing, brand name associations and company reputation, how to extend a product's life cycle, defend products at risk, and more. Features examples and actual cases illustrating the success of MPR.

Book World Scientific Reference On Globalisation In Eurasia And The Pacific Rim In 4 Volumes

Download or read book World Scientific Reference On Globalisation In Eurasia And The Pacific Rim In 4 Volumes written by and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-11-06 with total page 1104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-volume set focuses on a key region of the world which contains four of the biggest emerging economies, a large number of highly dynamic small- and medium-sized emerging economies, and one of the leading advanced industrial countries. It is a region which contains some of the biggest hydrocarbon and mineral deposits in the world, and some of the most energy- and metal-hungry economies in the world. With half the world's population, it is one of the most dynamic regions of the globe in terms of population movement, providing a key focus of foreign investment, both inwards and outwards, with a high degree of technological dynamism. The region plays a central role in the industrial supply networks of the globe. In four volumes, focusing on, respectively, foreign investment, innovation, energy and migration, the set focuses on each of the main elements in the production system in turn — capital, innovation, raw materials and labour. Volume 1 studies patterns of interchange of financial and direct investment within the region, focusing on governance, the development of supply chains, and technology transfer. In Volume 2, the technology theme becomes dominant, with a special focus on digital technology. It includes technical issues like mobile communications standardisation, developmental dimensions, including the role of clusters and science parks, and political economy issues like the rise of techno-nationalism. Volume 3 turns to energy issues — not just issues of supply and demand, but also key problems of climate change, security and sustainability across the Eurasian and Asian landmass. Volume 4 presents the human dimension, looking at people in movement, as workers, citizens, men, women, or colonisers. Among the key issues discussed are the migration from country to town in China, the ‘greying’ of countries like Japan, the effect of war on migration, marriage migration, human trafficking and the depopulation of the Russian Far East. The set is a must-have for anyone keen to understand the region whose manufacturing core can be described, without exaggeration, as the ‘workshop of the world’ of the twenty-first century.
