Book Review of the Multi hospital Arrangements Literature Benefits Disadvantages and Lessons for Implementation

Download or read book Review of the Multi hospital Arrangements Literature Benefits Disadvantages and Lessons for Implementation written by Jonathan Lomas and published by Hamilton, Ont. : Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis, McMaster University. This book was released on 1995 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multi-hospital arrangements literature is reviewed for Canada and the United States. There is a notable paucity of of evaluations on the outcomes of these arrangements, especially in the Canadian context. For evaluations that do make it to the literature, generalizability of conclusions is difficult because the majority of literature is based on case studies and much of it relates to "for-profit" U.S. hospitals. Much of the empirical literature is concentrated in the 1970's and early 1980's and may not be relevant for the 1990's. We are forced to conclude, however, that there is little definitive evidence quality of care is improved by multi-hospital arrangements. No evidence is found to support or refute the claims of better human resources deployment. The most striking organisational benefit appears to be that institutions considering merger or other arrangements are forced into explicit considerations of their mission and goals. Many of the potential disadvantages of multi-hospital arrangements may be ameliorated with appropriate strategic planning and attention to detail during the process of the multi-hospital arrangement.

Book Restructuring Canada s Health Systems How Do We Get There From Here

Download or read book Restructuring Canada s Health Systems How Do We Get There From Here written by Raisa B. Deber and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1992-12-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the Canadian health care system becoming a victim of its own success? It has done what it set out to do – provide universal access to all medically necessary health services without financial barriers to patients – but expanding technology, an aging population, and escalating costs strain its ability to continue. It is time to explore ways to reorient and restructure the health care system and the services it provides. At the Fourth Canadian Conference on Health Economics, contributors of international reputation addressed these concerns. Their papers, collected in this volume, consider a wide range of fundamental issues related to health care policies and structures. They discuss new developments in health care delivery, assess implications of such new policies as home care and health promotion, and propose concrete alternatives for restructuring the present system to sustain universal medicine.

Book The Corporate Transformation of Health Care

Download or read book The Corporate Transformation of Health Care written by Warren J Salmon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author explores how the corporate transformation of hospitals, HMOs, and the insurance and pharmaceutical industries has resulted in reduction in services, dangerous cost cutting, poor regulation, and corrupt research. He sheds light on the political lobbying and media manipulation that keeps the present system in place. Exposing the shortcomings of reform proposals that do little to alter the status quo, he makes a case for a workable single-payer system. This is an essential read for today's practitioners, policy makers, healthcare analysts and providers, and all those concerned with the precarious state of America's under- and uninsured.
