Book Mathematical Algorithms for Multidimensional Inverse Scattering Problems in Inhomogeneous Medium

Download or read book Mathematical Algorithms for Multidimensional Inverse Scattering Problems in Inhomogeneous Medium written by Michael V. Klibanov and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidimensional inverse scattering problems (ISP) in inhomogeneous media have important and extensive applications in many areas of interest to the NAVY. Among them are ocean acoustics, electromagnetic properties of sea ice, oceanic biology, and non-invasive testing of some materials, including semiconductors. From mathematical point of view the numerical methods must be based on robust and efficient mathematical algorithms. The development of such algorithms with rapid convergence rates is a challenging task in the theory of multidimensional ISP. In fact, ISPs represent an alternative to the conventional X-ray tomography. The major difficulty of the ISPs is that waves propagate in different (unknown) directions rather than just along straight lines, as it is in the case with X-ray tomography. Thus another term for ISPs is diffusion tomography . We have been working on theoretical studies and computational testing of numerical methods for Inverse Scattering Problems (ISP). Our main efforts have been concentrated on 3-Dimensional ISP. A more minor effort was devoted to 1-D phaseless ISP, that is ISP without phase information.

Book Introduction to Multidimensional Integrable Equations

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The soliton represents one ofthe most important ofnonlinear phenomena in modern physics. It constitutes an essentially localizedentity with a set ofremarkable properties. Solitons are found in various areas of physics from gravitation and field theory, plasma physics, and nonlinear optics to solid state physics and hydrodynamics. Nonlinear equations which describe soliton phenomena are ubiquitous. Solitons and the equations which commonly describe them are also of great mathematical interest. Thus, the dis covery in 1967and subsequent development ofthe inversescattering transform method that provides the mathematical structure underlying soliton theory constitutes one of the most important developments in modern theoretical physics. The inversescattering transform method is now established as a very powerful tool in the investigation of nonlinear partial differential equations. The inverse scattering transform method, since its discoverysome two decades ago, has been applied to a great variety of nonlinear equations which arise in diverse fields of physics. These include ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, integrodifferential, and differential-difference equations. The inverse scattering trans form method has allowed the investigation of these equations in a manner comparable to that of the Fourier method for linear equations.

In addition, problems from statistical physics were covered, including monodromy problems, quantum inverse scattering, and the Bethe ansatz. One of the aims of the conference was to bring together researchers in a variety of areas of inverse problems which have seen intensive activity in recent years. scattering

Book Mathematical Algorithms for Multi Dimensional Inverse Scattering Problems in Inhomogeneous Media

Download or read book Mathematical Algorithms for Multi Dimensional Inverse Scattering Problems in Inhomogeneous Media written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of numerical methods for multi-dimensional inverse scattering problems was developed theoretically, and some of them were tested computationally. Some related results on numerical methods for ill-posed Cauchy problems and phase retrieval problems were developed. The most promising direction of this research is an idea of the so- called 'Carleman's Weight Method'. This idea allows one to construct globablly convex cost functionals for a number of multi-dimensional inverse scattering problems.

This is the first literature dealing specifically with multidimensional solition equations.

Book Inverse Problems in Scattering

Download or read book Inverse Problems in Scattering written by G.M.L. Gladwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverse Problems in Scattering exposes some of the mathematics which has been developed in attempts to solve the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. Layered media are treated in Chapters 1--6 and quantum mechanical models in Chapters 7--10. Thus, Chapters 2 and 6 show the connections between matrix theory, Schur's lemma in complex analysis, the Levinson--Durbin algorithm, filter theory, moment problems and orthogonal polynomials. The chapters devoted to the simplest inverse scattering problems in quantum mechanics show how the Gel'fand--Levitan and Marchenko equations arose. The introduction to this problem is an excursion through the inverse problem related to a finite difference version of Schrödinger's equation. One of the basic problems in inverse quantum scattering is to determine what conditions must be imposed on the scattering data to ensure that they correspond to a regular potential, which involves Lebesque integrable functions, which are introduced in Chapter 9.

Book Multidimensional Inverse and Ill Posed Problems for Differential Equations

Download or read book Multidimensional Inverse and Ill Posed Problems for Differential Equations written by I︠U︡riĭ Evgenʹevich Anikonov and published by VSP. This book was released on 1995 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to statements of multidimensional inverse problems, in particular to methods of their investigation. Questions of the uniqueness of solution, solvability and stability are studied. Methods to construct a solution are given and, in certain cases, inversion formulas are given as well. Concrete applications of the theory developed here are also given. Where possible, the author has stopped to consider the method of investigation of the problems, thereby sometimes losing generality and quantity of the problems, which can be examined by such a method. The book should be of interet to researchers in the field of applied mathematics, geophysics and mathematical biology.

Book Multidimensional Inverse Scattering for First Order Systems

Download or read book Multidimensional Inverse Scattering for First Order Systems written by A. I. Nachman and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for solving the inverse problem for a class of multidimensional first order systems is given. The analysis yields equations which the scattering data must satisfy; these equations are natural candidates for characterizing admissible scattering data. The results are used to solve the multidimensional N-wave resonant interaction equations. (Author).

Book Multidimensional Inverse and Ill Posed Problems for Differential Equations

Download or read book Multidimensional Inverse and Ill Posed Problems for Differential Equations written by Yu. E. Anikonov and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverse problems are usually nonlinear and are separated into one-dimensional and multidimensional problems, depending on whether the sought function (or functions) is a function of one variable or of many. Multidimensionality of inverse problems has particular value at present, because practice shows that many investigating processes are described by an equation, of which the co-efficient essentially depends on many variables. This monograph is devoted to statements of multidimensional inverse problems, in particular to methods of their investigation.
