Book MUDRAS Seals of Yoga

Download or read book MUDRAS Seals of Yoga written by Gregor Maehle and published by . This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, for the first time, the complex subject of yogic mudras is comprehensively analysed and described. Mudras do not constitute one of the eight limbs of yoga. Rather, specific mudras support and accelerate success in yogic limbs such as asana, pranayama, pratyahara, meditation and samadhi. Pranayama and pratyahara are largely inaccessible without mudras and here mudras are ancillary and integrated into the practice of these yogic limbs. On the other hand, mudras pertaining to asana, meditation and samadhi are stand-alone practices, that can lead to break-throughs in these disciplines. Prominence is given to the Kundalini-raising mudras, without which success in meditation is often drawn out. The author additionally elucidates the phenomenon of Kundalini and the pranic blockages (granthis) that impinge on its rising. He also illustrates ethical considerations, prerequisites, and effects of Kundalini-rising, and how to prevent Kundalini accidents. This text describes the 31 most common mudras.

Book THE SCIENCE OF YOGA MUDRAS

Download or read book THE SCIENCE OF YOGA MUDRAS written by K. Rangaraja Iyengar and published by Sapna Book House (P) Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-05-17 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yoga is flying across the shores of Bharatha all over the world like an eagle. The entire humanity needs yoga today. If going after Yoga to get rid of diseases is one dimension, using Yoga to make our body healthy so that we can enjoy material pleasures is the other dimension. This was not what those great Rshis who evolved Yoga had in mind. Yoga is another name for pure living. If man lives, being aware of the purpose for which he was created, what else can it be excepted in Yoga? Human body is a temple. In a larger sense, it is the dwelling place of gods. Whatever one finds in the world is present in the human body. We have 72,000 Nerves in the body, also we have 72,000 Nadies which are subtle channels and centres of energy. We get a detailed account of these in books on Hatayoga. In this background Mudras and Bandhas occupy a place of great significance. We have a considerably difficult challenge to convert this Annamaya body into one, the object of which is Dharma Sadhana. Kalidasa has announced, "Shareeramadyam khalu dharma sadhanam". Our sages have said, "Manaeva manushyanam karanam bandha mokshayoho" Our mind is the cause of both Bandha and Moksha. In that case how can we make use of the techniques available to us to the best of our advantage? "Mudras" help us to keep our body and mind pure and chaste. They are tools to lead us to life fulfilment. When we activate the nerve and nadi centres in the body, they make the flow of energy smooth. Our body is a fantastic machine designed by the Creator. He has set in it a super computer called the 'Brain'. All the activities in our body are controlled by the Mind. The pressure exerted on certain key points in the body and in hands, energises the centres in the brain. We have come to know this truth as a result of experiments conducted in different parts of the world. Acupressure specialists assert that if we activate certain points in the legs, hands and ears, we can ward off a number of disorders of the body. In our ancient Tantra Marga we hear about "Khechari Mudra". During five thousand years after sage Vedavyasa, our ancestors have devised a number of ways to help man keep himself fit. They are simple and workable. We get a sea of information about Mudra Science in a number of books on Yoga shastra and Tantra Shastra. In a few of our epics also, we get references to these Mudras.

Book excerpt: This book will not only give a precise step-by-step description of the meditation technique at the heart of yoga but also put it into context with all other yogic techniques and how they contribute to the breakthrough to spiritual freedom. Yogic meditation derives its power from the fact that it systematically suspends the entire processing capacity of the subconscious mind and diverts it towards meditation. The processing power of the subconscious mind is a multiple of that of the conscious mind. Simply watching breath or watching awareness involves only your conscious mind. For quick and effective concentration the entire power of the subconscious mind has to be harnessed. This is the secret of yogic meditation. You will also find information on the importance of Kundalini as support for meditation and the factors that make it rise, such as chakra and Sushumna visualization, mantra and breath. The text then explains how the chakras represent evolutionary stages of brain and mind development. Chakra meditation, if done in a sophisticated, high-powered way, will propel the evolution of the brain and mind of the practitioner and the awakening of higher intelligence.
