Book Mud Laden Fluid Applied to Well Drilling Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mud Laden Fluid Applied to Well Drilling Classic Reprint written by J. a Pollard and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mud-Laden Fluid Applied to Well Drilling One of the greatest wastes of natural gas is that which often takes place in drilling oil wells. If a well is being drilled by one of the usual methods, the gas becomes a hindrance to drilling, and the driller regards it as a nuisance; or the gas may be found in a field where it has little or no immediate commercial value, and hence is allowed to escape into the air without restraint. For preventing this waste the usual dry-hole methods of drilling are unsuitable, and it is the purpose of this paper to outline a method whereby wells may be drilled and the oil recovered without waste of gas. When an open hole is bored into a bed containing gas under pres sure, the gas flows toward the hole because of the reduction of pres sure at the hole. The movement of gas is therefore always from a greater to a lesser pressure. If some means be provided for keeping the pressure within the well greater than the pressure in the gas sand there will be no flow of gas into the well. The requisite pres sure may be obtained by a column of water in the well, provided the gas pressure be not greater than that of the water when the well is full. However, the use of clear water is sometimes impracticable and is always undesirable. The action of clear water on the walls of the well causes caving, and an attempt to use clear water in drilling the well invites trouble and may injure the producing sands. By mixing clay with the water the results obtained are entirely different, and this paper deals with the use of a mud-laden fluid as applied to the dry-hole method of drilling with a cable rig, one type of which is shown in figure 1. Book Drilling Wells in Oklahoma by the Mud Laden Fluid Method Classic Reprint

Download or read book Drilling Wells in Oklahoma by the Mud Laden Fluid Method Classic Reprint written by A. G. Heggem and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Drilling Wells in Oklahoma by the Mud-Laden Fluid Method The waste of natural gas in Oklahoma has been enormous, and unless methods of preventing this waste are adopted the wealth of that State Will be decreased, not only by the intrinsic value of the gas wasted, but by loss of income obtained from those communi ties and industries whose prosperity and life depend on the exist ence and utilization of this ideal fuel. Furthermore, the rapid removal of gas from oil-bearing beds tends to decrease the total yield of oil. The saving of the gas is important to the oil producer also, for the use of gas to generate power makes it possible to operate profitably an oil lease that otherwise may have to be aban doned, and this, too, at a We when the revenue, though small, is steady. At many wells in the older oil fields the natural gas has been wasted, and crude oil, or more generally gasoline, has been used to generate the power to pump the oil, thus increasing the cost of production. The maximum yield of oil can be obtained only where a fuel as cheap and efficient as natural gas is available. During the winter of 1912 - 13 the development of the Cushing field in Oklahoma became very active, and many wells were drilled to the deeper sands which contained large volumes of natural gas. The enormous waste of the gas encountered during the drilling for oil called forth protests from various sources, and appeal was made to the President of the United States and to the Secretary of the Interior in behalf of the landowner and of the public welfare. The facts were wanted regarding the amount of the waste and the technical conditions that were responsible for practices causing it. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mud Laden Fluids and Tables on Specific Gravities and Collapsing Pressures The use of mud laden fluid has long been recognized as being a very necessary adjunct in rotary drilling, both for muddling operations and in holding down heavy pressures not controllable with clear water. We find, however, that drillers are given to overestimating the weights of muds used. They go by the consistency of the mud fluid rather than by its actual weight. A mud is considered by them to be heavy when it is so thick that the pumps handle it with difficulty, regardless of what its actual weight in pounds per gallon may be. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book is aimed at narrowing the gap between industrial aspects of mud engineering and its academic basics. It also sums up the experience of handling unconventional and unforeseen problems related with well-bore instability with the right composition of mud to facilitate correct properties in drilling fluid design, and thus minimize/eliminate non-productive time. If the book is able to fulfil any / all of these objectives, then the purpose of writing the book is served. It aims to reach out to petroleum engineering students and those mud engineers who have just begun their career in oil field, with many questions wandering in their minds, and aims to answer them in a manner that makes sense to their limited exposure with the least technical jargon but yet, effectively quench their thirst of inquisitiveness. For the professionals who aspire to climb the ladders of success to reach the corporate jungle, the book cautions them that what appears costly superficially need not be always costly and thus spend enough money to have a right team of professionals surrounding them and not the guys who will always agree to them for the fear of loss of their job."
