Book excerpt: Combat Muay Boran represents a hands-on approach to Thailand's original traditional fighting style, scientifically structured for hand-to-hand fighting. Compared to the spectacular choreographed performances so popular today in martial arts films and demonstrations, Combat Muay Boran stands out for its primary goal: to empower men and women to fight for their own safety. The techniques illustrated are based on the ancient Chern Muay fighting style: the aggressive use of the 9 natural weapons of the body (Nawarthawooth) to attack, defend and counterattack. In addition, this volume shows the use of the four main traditional attack systems: Throwing, Crushing, Grasping, Breaking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1973, this is a reissue of John Urry's important and influential study of the theory of revolution. Part 1 offers a detailed discussion of the concept of the reference group, tracing its development from the symbolic interactionist tradition and then showing how it came to be used in ways which emasculated some of the suppositions of that tradition. Part 2 sets out a theory of revolutionary dissent, in which Dr Urry emphasizes the interconnection between analyses on the level of the social structure and the social actor. The final section demonstrates the value of this theory by using it to account for the varying patterns of action and revolutionary thought and action in the Dutch East Indies in the first half of this century.

Each martial art has 4-6 pages space within. This means that although these arts are covered, I made them relatively brief so as to fit them into a handy book. To put it another way. I plan to make this a series of books in which each further book is about one martial art alone. The martial arts covered: Aikido, Bokator, Boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Bushido, Capoeira, Chess boxing, Chuck Norris System (Chun Kuk Do), Close quarters combat, Defendu, Eskrima, Fencing, Filipino martial arts, Grappling, Greco-Roman wrestling, Han mu do, Hand-to-hand combat, Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do, Hybrid, Jeet kune do, Jieishudan, Judo, Jujutsu, Kajukenbo, Kapu kuialua, Karate, Kempo, Kendo, Kickboxing, Kino mutai, Krabi krabong, Krav maga, Kuk Sool Won, Kuk Sul Do(R)️, Kung fu, Kyokushin, Mixed martial arts, Moo Duk Kwan, Moo Yea-Do, Mounted combat, Muay Boran, Muay Thai, Ninjutsu, Pankration, Sambo, Sanda, Sanshou, Savate, Self-defense, Shootfighting, Shooto, Silat, Stick fighting, Submission wrestling, Sumo, Sword fighting, Systema, Taekkyeon, Taekwondo, Tai chi, Tang soo do, Thaing, Tricking, Vale tudo, Wing chun, Wrestling, Wushu, Wu Shu Kwan, Xtreme Martial Arts.

Book The Monk from Brooklyn

Download or read book The Monk from Brooklyn written by Antonio Graceffo and published by Gom Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2004-07 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Kung Fu and modern Chinese Buddhism, is the oldest and most mysterious Kung Fu school in the world. It is an exotic and mythical destination of daydreams to millions of people. In the history of the temple, very few foreigners have ever had a chance to study there. Foreigners have been allowed to study in many of the Shaolin schools, near the temple, which have taken the Shaolin name as a marketing ploy, but less than fifty foreigners have studied at the original Shaolin Temple. Antonio Graceffo was lucky enough to be one of the few, and this is the chronicle of his experience. Antonio has twenty-five years of experience with martial arts, so it is with a knowing eye that he observed the training at the temple. But it is his background that gives him a very unique perspective. An Italian-American from Brooklyn, New York, and a former investment banker, Antonio was educated in some of the best universities that Europe and Asia had to offer. His articles are informative, humorous, and irreverent. He doesn't pull any punches writing about the filthy conditions and the diminished mental capacities of people who spent a lifetime learning to kick, but never bothered to learn to read and write. The title says it all. Put a Chinese-speaking Italian-American, from Brooklyn in the holiest of Buddhist temples, and watch the racial harmony flow.

Book excerpt: The martial arts are various methods of armed and unarmed combat, originally used in warfare in the Far East and shaped by Oriental philosophical concepts. Book Fear and Loathing in Pattaya

Download or read book Fear and Loathing in Pattaya written by Mark Jones and published by Booksmango. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent reports in a number of western newspapers Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada - suggest that Thailand is one of the most dangerous countries in the world, for the aforementioned countries' nationals, to either be living in or visiting. Based on recent statistics the newspapers reported that, in terms of serious injury or death, their citizens are more at risk in Thailand than almost anywhere else in the world apart from declared war zones. To add balance to the argument the reports also clearly stated that the majority of the injuries, and fatalities were the result of misadventure or road accidents. In instances where murder or serious assault was involved the Thai authorities were praised for their professionalism in apprehending the perpetrators. All too often though, it is found that the perpetrators were either a jealous business competitor trying to eliminate the competition, or a greedy wife or girlfriend hoping to cash in on the death of her husband or boyfriend. These deeper level facts are something that is often not made clear in the report of the death or serious assault. It may be touched upon but we are often left to draw our own conclusions regarding the machinations behind the event. For many expats living in Thailand, these types of occurrences are an all too familiar theme with greed, more often than not, being the primary motivator. Sadly it is also quietly acknowledged that many of the victims foreign husbands, boyfriends, or business competitors put themselves in a position to be a victim in the first instance. That they weren't street smart or savvy enough and often, through their own actions or naivety, help create the circumstances leading to their injury or demise. Even though the local English language newspapers do a reasonable job reporting the eventual apprehension of the greedy wife, girlfriend, or jealous business competitor, nothing much is ever mentioned of the behind the scenes story. The rivalries, jealousies, motivations and emotions that are the fabric of a human tragedy go unreported. This book seeks to rectify that and it also seeks to show balance; that as much as the blame can be pointed at the motivations of a jealous business competitor, greedy wife, or girlfriend, it can also be apportioned to the poor life decisions made by the victim. For many of us who continue to live in Thailand, or those who are considering moving here, there is a lesson in that. That one must take responsibility for one's own actions at all times and never put yourself in a position to be a victim. As a foreigner in Thailand you are, in most instances, on your own. You are, whether you like it or not, very much the director of your own destiny.
