Book excerpt: 2022 NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST ONE OF THE LOS ANGELES TIMES' TOP 5 FICTION BOOKS OF THE YEAR ONE OF TIME AND SLATE'S TOP 10 BOOKS OF THE YEAR Named one of the BEST BOOKS OF 2022 by NPR, Vogue, Vulture, BuzzFeed, Harper's Bazaar, and more “One of the buzziest, most human novels of the year…breathless, dizzying, and completely beautiful.” —Vogue “Dazzling and wholly original...[written] with such mordant wit, insight, and specificity, it feels like watching a new literary star being born in real time.” —Entertainment Weekly From a brilliant new voice comes an electrifying novel of a young immigrant building a life for herself—a warm, dazzling, and profound saga of queer love, friendship, work, and precarity in twenty-first century America Graduating into the long maw of an American recession, Sneha is one of the fortunate ones. She’s moved to Milwaukee for an entry-level corporate job that, grueling as it may be, is the key that unlocks every door: she can pick up the tab at dinner with her new friend Tig, get her college buddy Thom hired alongside her, and send money to her parents back in India. She begins dating women—soon developing a burning crush on Marina, a beguiling and beautiful dancer who always seems just out of reach. But before long, trouble arrives. Painful secrets rear their heads; jobs go off the rails; evictions loom. Sneha struggles to be truly close and open with anybody, even as her friendships deepen, even as she throws herself headlong into a dizzying romance with Marina. It’s then that Tig begins to draw up a radical solution to their problems, hoping to save them all. A beautiful and capacious novel rendered in singular, unforgettable prose, All This Could Be Different is a wise, tender, and riveting group portrait of young people forging love and community amidst struggle, and a moving story of one immigrant’s journey to make her home in the world.
Download or read book Revising Mrs Robinson written by Suzanna Mathews and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SEXUALITY-RELATIONSHIPS In this modern era of dating, opportunities abound for older women and younger men to find each other. But those women dating younger men must be proactive about managing the doubt-filled self-talk and the outside commentary that could derail their romance. Revising Mrs. Robinson offers an examination of the personal and social responses to relationships between older women and younger men. Author Suzanna Mathews explores the term cougar as a cultural phenomenon and considers what draws cougars and cubs together. She also provides advice for managing the unique challenges of an intergenerational relationship. Most of all, Mathews tells middle-aged women how to be honest with themselves and feel empowered to pursue whatever relationship they choose, regardless of age difference, and armed for the cultural critique that often accompanies any nontraditional relationship. This practical guide seeks to assist women involved with or interested in relationships with younger men, presenting methods for dealing with both external and internal obstacles.

Download or read book The Threat From Within written by Gilbert Lewis and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Threat From Within By: Gilbert Lewis The ISIS high command is angry that the hostage operation has failed. They conclude that their main obstacle is the MI6 operative, Estella “Rose” Mathews. Rose and a combined team of British and French Special Forces successfully rescued the six hostages from England, France, and the United States. After the hostages were successfully rescued, ISIS now plans an attack using their western fighters. Again, these attacks are prevented by western intelligence agencies. ISIS has now moved its attack to the America Homefront. MI6 assigns Rose to the CIA. The CIA, in turn, assigned Rose to work covertly with the American company White Mountain Analytics (WMA). ISIS develops a fool-proof-plan to kill Rose. They have posted a “kill contract” on the darknet to assassinate Rose. The posting of the “kill contract” is answered by Adolf Wolfgang (Wolf) Schneider. Wolf was in the Marines and was given a dishonorable discharge. He blames his being booted from the Marines on a black captain. Wolf grew up in Kentucky with a father who blamed all of his failures on the “blacks.” Wolf grew up in an environment of “White Supremacy” thus, him being booted from the Marines only strengthen his hatred for Negros, slant eyes and beaners. Upon being booted from the Marines, Wolf found his way to KKK camps in Montana and Tennessee. Within two years he was the top dog. The KKK camp sells drugs brought in illegally from Mexico. Wolf quickly spreads the KKK enterprise to gun running and prostitution. Wolf’s expertise is “sniper” kills. His motto is “One Shot, One Kill.” He learned the trade in the Marines. When Wolf answered the post to kill Rose, he already had completed kills on mafia rats, crooked politicians, and police officers who have not honored their contract to the mafia. So far, he finds it easy money. Each kill brings in an average of $100K. Wolf checks on the darknet monthly for easy kills. His contract to kill Rose is $600K. The story unfolds as Rose is tipped off that there is a kill contract on her life. Rose and members of WMA determine that the assassin is a member of a White Nationalist camp in Tennessee. The WMA team discovers that the camp is involved in illicit drugs, opioids, gun-running, and forced prostitution. When the prostitutes are no longer needed, they use them in snuff movies. Rose and her team of experienced special operations personnel and the FBI engage in a long siege. As the siege continues, President Trout in his rallies is bad-mouthing the FBI. The crowd surrounding the White Nationalist camp is turning against Rose and the FBI. They must quickly and carefully attack and turn the general public against the tide of support for these domestic terrorists.
