Book excerpt: This story is about a little girl being abused and a young man with a drinking problem. They work things out together in a lyrical way. I offer the story to young and old to open their minds to new possiblities. My hopes is when a child and adult reads the book it opens debate between the two. I tried to write the book in a creative way so the child is more at ease with the conversation. And also maybe open a door to humanity.

Book Straight and Level

Download or read book Straight and Level written by Stephen Holloway and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003.Airline operating profits are well known to be volatile, and the global industry aggregate figures conceal wide differences in performance between carriers. The fundamental reasons for the poor performance of the industry as a whole were in the early 1990's that output ran too far ahead of demand, and the yield earned on output sold was insufficient to cover costs. In strategic context, this second edition uses a simple yet powerful model to explore linkages between the fundamentals of airline economics and the volatility of industry results at the operating level. Its five parts look in turn at strategic context, supply side, demand side, network management and a general conclusion.

This international conference is a unique venue that brings together leading researchers and practitioners of both formal and dynamic veri?cation, for both hardware and software systems. This year’s conference extended the successes of the previous years, with a largejumpinthenumberofsubmitted papers. Book The Sociology of Generations

Download or read book The Sociology of Generations written by Jennie Bristow and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-09 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book suggests that the enduring problem of generations remains that of knowledge: how society conceptualises the relationship between past, present and future, and the ways in which this is transmitted by adults to the young. Reflecting on Mannheim’s seminal essay ‘The Problem of Generations’, the author explores why generations have become a focus for academic interest and policy developments today. Bristow argues that developments in education, teaching and parenting culture seek to resolve tensions of our present-day risk society through imposing an artificial distance between the generations. Bristow’s book will be of interest to students and scholars in the fields of Sociology, Social Policy, Education, Family studies, Gerontology and Youth studies.

Book Routledge Handbook of Feminist Peace Research

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Feminist Peace Research written by Tarja Väyrynen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides a comprehensive overview of feminist approaches to questions of violence, justice, and peace. The volume argues that critical feminist thinking is necessary to analyse core peace and conflict issues and is fundamental to thinking about solutions to global problems and promoting peaceful conflict transformation. Contributions to the volume consider questions at the intersection of feminism, gender, peace, justice, and violence through interdisciplinary perspectives. The handbook engages with multiple feminisms, diverse policy concerns, and works with diverse theoretical and methodological contributions. The volume covers the gendered nature of five major themes: • Methodologies and genealogies (including theories, concepts, histories, methodologies) • Politics, power, and violence (including the ways in which violence is created, maintained, and reproduced, and the gendered dynamics of its instantiations) • Institutional and societal interventions to promote peace (including those by national, regional, and international organisations, and civil society or informal groups/bodies) • Bodies, sexualities, and health (including sexual health, biopolitics, sexual orientation) • Global inequalities (including climate change, aid, global political economy). This handbook will be of great interest to students of peace and conflict studies, security studies, feminist studies, gender studies, international relations, and politics. Book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement written by Sandra L. Christenson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two decades, the concept of student engagement has grown from simple attention in class to a construct comprised of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components that embody and further develop motivation for learning. Similarly, the goals of student engagement have evolved from dropout prevention to improved outcomes for lifelong learning. This robust expansion has led to numerous lines of research across disciplines and are brought together clearly and comprehensively in the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement. The Handbook guides readers through the field’s rich history, sorts out its component constructs, and identifies knowledge gaps to be filled by future research. Grounding data in real-world learning situations, contributors analyze indicators and facilitators of student engagement, link engagement to motivation, and gauge the impact of family, peers, and teachers on engagement in elementary and secondary grades. Findings on the effectiveness of classroom interventions are discussed in detail. And because assessing engagement is still a relatively new endeavor, chapters on measurement methods and issues round out this important resource. Topical areas addressed in the Handbook include: Engagement across developmental stages. Self-efficacy in the engaged learner. Parental and social influences on engagement and achievement motivation. The engaging nature of teaching for competency development. The relationship between engagement and high-risk behavior in adolescents. Comparing methods for measuring student engagement. An essential guide to the expanding knowledge base, the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement serves as a valuable resource for researchers, scientist-practitioners, and graduate students in such varied fields as clinical child and school psychology, educational psychology, public health, teaching and teacher education, social work, and educational policy.
