Book Ecological and Health Effects of Building Materials

Download or read book Ecological and Health Effects of Building Materials written by Junaid Ahmad Malik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-07 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the present adverse effects of using precarious building materials on the ecology and human health. Also, the detailed discussions on the novel and greener construction materials and their utilization as an alternative to the conventional harmful existing methods and materials are also presented in the subsequent chapters. This book helps to fill the research gaps in the existing prior-art knowledge in the field of sustainable construction and green building materials and methods giving due importance to ecology and health, specifically to the fields of sustainable structural engineering, sustainable geotechnical engineering, sustainable road engineering, etc. This book helps in achieving a sustainable environment through possible adoption of innovative and ecological construction practices. Hence, this book acts as a practical workbook, mainly for the academicians and practicing engineers who are willing to work toward the consecrated building industry. It is a well-established fact that the constructions of the engineering structures consume more and more earth resources than any other human activities in the world. In addition, the construction-related activities will produce several million tons of greenhouse gases, toxic emissions, water pollutants, and solid wastes. This creates a huge impact on environment and causes severe health issues on humans and animals. It is thus important to create an eco-friendly construction environment which can satisfy the ecological and health requirements.

Book Tribal Farmers of Surguja Chhattishgarh

It was also observed that most of the respondents had medium level adoption of recommended sugarcane production technology. This indicates that the sugarcane growers were not aware about recommended sugarcane production technology and at the same time they were slow to adopt recommended sugarcane production technology. the sugarcane growers came under medium level of adoption category; they were not using recommended technology fully. It is necessary to convince the sugarcane growers with the help of various extension teaching method like kisan mela, exhibition, group discussion, film shows and organization of demonstrations on improved technologies of sugarcane crop in the villages with the help of extension agents, uses of information sources in time and contact with other developmental organizations for providing the facilities and proper guidance to the sugarcane growers for adoption of recommended sugarcane production technology.

Book 21st Century Prometheus

  • Author : Maurizio Martellini
  • Publisher : Springer Nature

  • Pages : 373 pages

Download or read book 21st Century Prometheus written by Maurizio Martellini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the evolving CBRN risk landscape and highlights advances in the “core” CBRN technologies, including when combined with (improvised) explosive devices (CBRNe threats). It analyses how associated technologies create new safety and security risks, challenging certain assumptions that underlie current control regimes. The book also shows how technologies can be enablers for more effective strategies to mitigate these risks. 21st-century safety and security risks emanating from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials – whether resulting from natural events, accidents or malevolent use - are increasingly shaped by technologies that enable their development, production or use in ways that differ from the past. Artificial intelligence, the use of cyberspace, the revolution in the life sciences, new manufacturing methods, new platforms and equipment for agent delivery, hypersonic weapons systems, information tools utilised in hybrid warfare – these and other technologies are reshaping the global security environment and CBRN landscape. They are leading to a growing potential for highly targeted violence, and they can lead to greater instability and vulnerability worldwide. At the same time, technology offers solutions to manage CBRN risks. Examples are faster detection, more accurate characterisation of the nature and origin of CBRN agents, new forensic investigation methods, or new medical treatments for victims of CBRN incidents. New educational concepts help to foster a culture of responsibility in science and technology and strengthen governance. New training methods help develop practical skills to manage CBRN risks more effectively. The book concludes that there is a growing need for a holistic framework towards CBRN risk mitigation. Traditional arms control mechanisms such as global, regional or bilateral treaties and export controls are still needed, as they provide a necessary legal and institutional framework. But laws and technology denial alone will not suffice, and institutional mechanisms can at times be weak. Given the pace of technological progress and the diffusion of critical knowledge, tools and materials, policymakers must accept that CBRN risks cannot be eliminated altogether. Instead, society has to learn to manage these risks and develop resilience against them. This requires a “softer”, broadly based multi-stakeholder approach involving governments, industry, the research and development communities, educators, and civil society. Furthermore, educating policymakers that cutting-edge technologies may seriously affect global strategic stability could create incentives for developing a more creative and contemporary arms control strategy that fosters cooperation rather than incremental polarisation.

Book CHIPS 2020 VOL 2

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bernd Höfflinger
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2015-09-19
  • ISBN : 3319220934
  • Pages : 319 pages

Download or read book CHIPS 2020 VOL 2 written by Bernd Höfflinger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-19 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The release of this second volume of CHIPS 2020 coincides with the 50th anniversary of Moore’s Law, a critical year marked by the end of the nanometer roadmap and by a significantly reduced annual rise in chip performance. At the same time, we are witnessing a data explosion in the Internet, which is consuming 40% more electrical power every year, leading to fears of a major blackout of the Internet by 2020. The messages of the first CHIPS 2020, published in 2012, concerned the realization of quantum steps for improving the energy efficiency of all chip functions. With this second volume, we review these messages and amplify upon the most promising directions: ultra-low-voltage electronics, nanoscale monolithic 3D integration, relevant-data, brain- and human-vision-inspired processing, and energy harvesting for chip autonomy. The team of authors, enlarged by more world leaders in low-power, monolithic 3D, video, and Silicon brains, presents new vistas in nanoelectronics, promising Moore-like exponential growth sustainable through to the 2030s.
