Book Kristi Yamaguchi

Download or read book Kristi Yamaguchi written by Judy L. Hasday and published by Infobase Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a baby, Kristi Yamaguchi had to overcome a foot deformity just to be able to walk normally. The idea of putting on a pair of ice skates, let alone excelling as a world-class figure skater like her hero, Dorothy Hamill, could not have been more than a dream. Yet the determined young girl, born to parents who lived through the unjust internment of the Japanese during World War II, worked hard, putting in countless hours at the rink and accepting the sacrifices necessary to attain her goal. Her efforts were well worth it: In Albertville, France, in 1992, Yamaguchi's grace and dignity on the ice earned her the Olympic gold. Kristi Yamaguchi is the story of a woman who has exemplified her motto: Always dream. Whether as a competitor, champion, or the founder of her own charitable foundation, Kristi Yamaguchi's motto has served as her personal inspiration.

Book My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family

Download or read book My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family written by Loraine C. Hartley and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS BOOK I S RIDICULOUS! IT IS A FUNNY, EMOTIONAL, AND INSPIRING STORY ABOUT ME AND MY FAMILY MEMBERS, OLD, NEW, AND ALL –INCLUSIVE. The title, “My Delightfully Dysfunctional Family,” got stuck inside my head and refused to go away, so I decided to write a book. Once I started, I could not stop, so I kept writing, and this compelling story was unwrapped. The book begins in 1972 when my dad created a “blended family” by getting married a second time, to a woman who had a daughter from a previous marriage. It ends in 2019 when he died, at the ripe old age of 93. We each chose our own paths, as we were forced to navigate our individual ways through the next generation of divorce and deception. I chose Jesus Christ to lead me through the failures in my life, and I discovered that by doing what the Bible told me to do in each situation, I was able to turn my failures into successes. Many people who know me wanted to hear my story, and suggested that I put my experiences to words, and share them with the world, so I did.

Book excerpt: On January 21, 2006, my husband Terry and I were enjoying a relaxing couples massage during a romantic getaway and five hours later we were experiencing 15 terrifying minutes of uncertainty as to whether we would live or die. Our single engine plane had suddenly lost all its power. In those moments of uncertainty, flashing before me was my life... What had I done? What would I miss? And most importantly what was the meaning of those blue eyes that superimposed themselves over Terry's eyes ... minutes before we crashed? The physical and emotional healing was intense, humbling and gratifying while the spiritual path that I had been catapulted onto was certainly uplifting and unfamiliar to me. All my life my soul had been gently nudging me towards my true purpose, now it was hitting me over the head with the messages of ... Love more... have less, simplify your life. Love and forgive myself and others unconditionally. This true story is of my spiritual transformation that took me from having the illusion that all my material accomplishments was all there was for a fulfilling life: to knowing that life was and had already been planned for me, by me well before I incarnated into this body. Surviving this plane crash was only a catalyst towards me fulfilling my true purpose in life. Having a clean slate to begin all over with is a daunting task. Being 47,now widowed and starting over was a daunting task. My faith as about to be tested big time. For from tragedy comes triumph. Having found the owner of 'those eyes' I know I have more work and a much higher purpose in life to fulfill. It took a life threatening and frightening plane crash to make me see the truth... my plane truth. It's truly been a humbling experience and one I consider to be a gift and not a tragedy. The hardest part was simply looking in the mirror and uncovering all my masks that I had thought were protecting me, but in fact were keeping me from knowing my true self.

Book excerpt: Financial analyst Marc Lafarge is a workaholic who has been putting in countless hours for a stockbroking firm in Calgary when he stumbles upon a nefarious plot. The Canadian firm he’s been working for, on his secondary industrial sector project, is embroiled in an American plot to take over Canada’s natural resources. As Marc learns more about the highly sophisticated scheme to usurp the country’s oil and water resources, he realises he must do something to stop the Americans. Initially, determined to reveal a substantial fraud in oil and profits, Marc assembles a group of like-minded Canadians to fight against what he has discovered. Then, Marc learns of an even bigger conspiracy: the absorption of Canada into the United States. The fraud project morphs into a major battle against a consortium of US corporations, private equity firms, and the religious right. Under threat at every turn, Marc and his team grapple with blackmail, extortion, and murder, but continue to fight to protect Canada and its citizens. Will their efforts encourage a new USMCA trade agreement, or will Canada move away from the US and Mexico and instead trade with Europe, Asia, and South America? Most importantly: Will Canada retain its independence, or will the US succeed in seamlessly absorbing it? What will democracy in Canada look like after all of this is over?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. As a child, Cora rarely saw Indigenous individuals represented in her history textbooks or in pop culture. Willie Nelson sang “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys,” but Cora wondered, where were the heroes who looked like her? She chose the title of her book in response, to help reflect her reality. In fact, you don’t have to look very hard to find Indigenous Albertans excelling in every field, from the arts to business and everything in between. Cora wrote this book to ensure these heroes receive their proper due. Some of the individuals in this collection need no introduction, while others are less well known. From past and present and from all walks of life, these 100 Indigenous heroes share talent, passion, and legacies that made a lasting impact. Read about: - Douglas Cardinal, the architect whose iconic, flowing designs grace cities across Alberta, across Canada, and in Washington, DC, - Nellie Carlson, a dedicated activist whose work advanced the cause of Indigenous women and the education of Indigenous children, - Alex Janvier, whose pioneering work has firmly established him as one of Canada’s greatest artists, - Moostoos, “The Buffalo,” the spokesperson for the Cree in Treaty 8 talks who fought tirelessly to defend his People’s rights, - And many more.
