Book Situations and atmospheres in organizations

Download or read book Situations and atmospheres in organizations written by Christian Julmi and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2017-09-14T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although situations and atmospheres are omnipresent in organizations and have a significant influence on the behaviour of the members of the organization, they are only seldom regarded as relevant research subjects in management and organization research and systematically investigated. This book enters unknown territory in that it elevates situations and atmospheres to the most fundamental and everyday features of being-in-the-organization and investigates their development dynamics systematically. The new phenomenology of the German philosopher Hermann Schmitz, and critical supplements from his follower, Guido Rappe, serve as the theoretical foundation of the reflections. Human corporeality and subjectivity are at the centre of the reflections.

Book Kinetic Atmospheres

Download or read book Kinetic Atmospheres written by Johannes Birringer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a sustained and deeply experiential pragmatic study of performance environments, here defined at unstable, emerging, and multisensational atmospheres, open to interactions and travels in augmented virtualities. Birringer’s writings challenge common assumptions about embodiment and the digital, exploring and refining artistic research into physical movement behavior, gesture, sensing perception, cognition, and trans-sensory hallucination. If landscapes are autobiographical, and atmospheres prompt us to enter blurred lines of a "forest knowledge," where light, shade, and darkness entangle us in foraging mediations of contaminated diversity, then such sensitization to elemental environments requires a focus on processual interaction. Provocative chapters probe various types of performance scenarios and immersive architectures of the real and the virtual. They break new ground in analyzing an extended choreographic – the building of hypersensorial scenographies that include a range of materialities as well as bodily and metabodily presences. Foregrounding his notion of kinetic atmospheres, the author intimates a technosomatic theory of dance, performance, and ritual processes, while engaging in a vivid cross-cultural dialogue with some of the leading digital and theatrical artists worldwide. This poetic meditation will be of great interest to students and scholars in theatre, performing arts as well as media arts practitioners, composers, programmers, and designers.

Book Coalition Building in the Anti Death Penalty Movement

Download or read book Coalition Building in the Anti Death Penalty Movement written by Sandra Joy and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While a great deal of research has been done about many aspects of the death penalty, very little attention has been paid to the movement organized against it. Coalition Building in the Anti-Death Penalty Movement fills that gap with an empirical examination of the external and internal factors that shape the role race plays in the anti-death penalty movement. While the death rows across the U.S. are overwhelmingly filled with racial minorities and the poor, the ranks of the anti-death penalty movement are dominated by white, middle-class professionals. The attention given to race arise out of this racial distinction between death row inmates and the activists who advocate for them. By conducting interviews with white, black, and Latino anti-death penalty activists, this book examines the influence of race on the mobilization of activists and their approach toward abolition. The concepts of political opportunity, mobilizing structures, and framing provided by the political process model, are used to describe the complex manner in which moral opposition to the death penalty is shaped by the racial realities of the activists. Although racial tensions lie just below the surface, they nonetheless create real obstacles for the movement as it strives to build a racially diverse coalition of activists aimed at death penalty abolition.

Book Consuming Atmospheres

Download or read book Consuming Atmospheres written by Chloe Steadman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmosphere is a term often used in everyday life to describe how a consumption space feels and has long been an important theme within marketing. There has been renewed interest in atmosphere over recent years in marketing and beyond, with the concept at a crucial point in its development. However, research about atmosphere is often confined into disciplinary silos. Consuming Atmospheres unsettles such disciplinary boundaries by delivering an interdisciplinary collection of cutting-edge work on atmosphere and consumption. Specifically, the book brings together experts from various disciplinary backgrounds to explore how atmospheres are designed, experienced, and researched. Within these three thematic parts organising the collection, atmosphere is explored across a range of consumption and geographic contexts, including pop-up stores, music festivals, tourist spaces, town centres, sports stadia, amusement arcades, food and drink, urban squats, and seaside piers across England, Scotland, Denmark, and Slovenia. The book will appeal to academics and postgraduate students within marketing and beyond, given the chapter authors have backgrounds in marketing, consumer research, geography, sociology, youth studies, art and design, place management, and law. It may also be of interest to practitioners endeavouring to co-create more effective consumption atmospheres, such as marketers, retailers, and place managers.

Book Intraseasonal Variability in the Atmosphere Ocean Climate System

Download or read book Intraseasonal Variability in the Atmosphere Ocean Climate System written by William K.-M. Lau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-25 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improving the reliability of long-range forecasts of natural disasters, such as severe weather, droughts and floods, in North America, South America, Africa and the Asian/Australasian monsoon regions is of vital importance to the livelihood of millions of people who are affected by these events. In recent years the significance of major short-term climatic variability, and events such as the El Nino/Southern Oscillation in the Pacific, with its worldwide effect on rainfall patterns, has been all to clearly demonstrated. Understanding and predicting the intra-seasonal variability (ISV) of the ocean and atmosphere is crucial to improving long range environmental forecasts and the reliability of climate change projects through climate models. In the second edition of this classic book on the subject, the authors have updated the original chapters, where appropriate, and added a new chapter that includes short subjects representing substantial new development in ISV research since the publication of the first edition.

Book The Black Power Movement and American Social Work

Download or read book The Black Power Movement and American Social Work written by Joyce M. Bell and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Black Power movement has often been portrayed in history and popular culture as the quintessential "bad boy" of modern black movement-making in America. Yet this impression misses the full extent of Black Power's contributions to U.S. society, especially in regard to black professionals in social work. Relying on extensive archival research and oral history interviews, Joyce M. Bell follows two groups of black social workers in the 1960s and 1970s as they mobilized Black Power ideas, strategies, and tactics to change their national professional associations. Comparing black dissenters within the National Federation of Settlements (NFS), who fought for concessions from within their organization, and those within the National Conference on Social Welfare (NCSW), who ultimately adopted a separatist strategy, she shows how the Black Power influence was central to the creation and rise of black professional associations. She also provides a nuanced approach to studying race-based movements and offers a framework for understanding the role of social movements in shaping the non-state organizations of civil society.
