Book Mathematical Modelling

Download or read book Mathematical Modelling written by Murray S. Klamkin and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for classroom use, this book contains short, self-contained mathematical models of problems in the physical, mathematical, and biological sciences first published in the Classroom Notes section of the SIAM Review from 1975-1985. The problems provide an ideal way to make complex subject matter more accessible to the student through the use of concrete applications. Each section has extensive supplementary references provided by the editor from his years of experience with mathematical modelling.

Book Numerical Solution of Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations written by L. Fox and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Solution of Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations is based on a summer school held in Oxford in August-September 1961. The book is organized into four parts. The first three cover the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, integral equations, and partial differential equations of quasi-linear form. Most of the techniques are evaluated from the standpoints of accuracy, convergence, and stability (in the various senses of these terms) as well as ease of coding and convenience of machine computation. The last part, on practical problems, uses and develops the techniques for the treatment of problems of the greatest difficulty and complexity, which tax not only the best machines but also the best brains. This book was written for scientists who have problems to solve, and who want to know what methods exist, why and in what circumstances some are better than others, and how to adapt and develop techniques for new problems. The budding numerical analyst should also benefit from this book, and should find some topics for valuable research. The first three parts, in fact, could be used not only by practical men but also by students, though a preliminary elementary course would assist the reading.

Book Analytical Heat Diffusion Theory

Download or read book Analytical Heat Diffusion Theory written by A Luikov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Heat Diffusion Theory is a revised edition of an earlier book by Academician Luikov, which was widely used throughout the Soviet Union and the surrounding socialist countries. This book is divided into 15 chapters that treat heat conduction problems by the classical methods and emphasize the advantages of the transform method, particularly in obtaining short time solutions of many transient problems. This book starts with a discussion on the physical fundamentals, generalized variables, and solution of boundary value problems of heat transfer. Considerable chapters are devoted to the basic classical heat transfer problems and problems in which the body surface temperature is a specified function of time. Other chapters explore the heat transfer problems under different heat sources, including continuous and pulse-type. The discussion then shifts to the problem of freezing wet ground, two-dimensional temperature field, and heat conduction with variable transfer coefficients. The final chapters deal with the fundamentals of the integral transforms and their application to heat conduction problems. These chapters also look into the application of the theory of analytic functions to the heat conduction theory of mathematical physics. This book is an invaluable source for advanced undergraduate or graduate in analytical heat transfer.

Book Gas Solid Reactions

    Book Details:
  • Author : Julian Szekely
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2012-12-02
  • ISBN : 0323151396
  • Pages : 415 pages

Download or read book Gas Solid Reactions written by Julian Szekely and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas-Solid Reactions describes gas-solid reaction systems, focusing on the four phenomena—external mass transfer, pore diffusion, adsorption/desorption, and chemical reaction. This book consists of eight chapters. After the introduction provided in Chapter 1, the basic components of gas-solid reactions are reviewed in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 describes the reactions of individual nonporous solid particles, while Chapter 4 elaborates the reaction of single porous particles. Solid-solid reactions proceeding through gaseous intermediates are considered in Chapter 5. Chapter 6 deals with the experimental approaches to the study of gas-solid reaction systems. How information on single-particle behavior may be used for the design of multiparticle, large-scale assemblies, and packed- and fluidized-bed reaction systems is deliberated in Chapter 7. The last chapter covers the specific gas-solid reaction systems, including some statistical indices indicating the economic importance of the systems and processes it’s based on. This publication is recommended for practicing engineers engaged in process research, development, and design in the many fields where gas-solid reactions are important.
