Book Current State of Postural Research Moving Beyond the Balance Platform

Download or read book Current State of Postural Research Moving Beyond the Balance Platform written by Emily Keshner and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-02-05 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of posture control has morphed over the past century from a reflex, hierarchically controlled, innate behavior to a complex and adaptable motor act highly influenced by cognitive processes as well as confidence and attentiveness of the performer. In addition, multisensory control of posture has been recognized as a process of fusion and integration rather than summation and inhibition. Advances in computational modeling and imaging have revealed that higher cortical centers are involved in production of what were previously believed to be stereotypical, triggered reactions. Emerging evidence now supports the idea that postural behaviors are regulated by distributed control in the neuraxis and shaped by dynamic interactions of sensorimotor processes in a task- and context-dependent manner.

Book Prodependence

Download or read book Prodependence written by Robert Weiss and published by Health Communications, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Prodependence," a new psychological term created by Robert Weiss to describe healthy interdependence in the modern world, turns this around. Rather that preaching detachment and distance over continued bonding and assistance, as so many therapists, self-help books, and 12-step groups currently do, prodependence celebrates the human need for and pursuit of intimate connection, viewing this as a positive force for change. Simply stated, prodependence occurs when attachment relationships are mutually beneficial--with one person's strengths filling in the weak points of the other, and vice versa. And this can occur even when an addiction is present

Book Donor Coordination of Economic Assistance to Eastern Europe

Download or read book Donor Coordination of Economic Assistance to Eastern Europe written by Gerrit Stratmann and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2000 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major restriction to Western aid efforts has been a lack of coordination. This book delves into the determinants of successful cooperation between bi- and multilateral donor agencies at the example of Western aid to Eastern Europe in the period from 1990 to 1996. In raising the assumption that networking between international organizations cannot be stimulated by appealing to norm-oriented behavior but is contingent upon the existence of common interests, the idealist view of international relations is seriously challenged. Comparing different assistance sectors - energy, telecoms, mass privatization, agriculture, statistics, central banking, environment and education - it is shown that donor coordination is a form of collective action initiated by donors in response to sectoral market failure which is perceived as significant because it threatens the non-attainment of basic goals or inflicts own projects with high costs or risks.

Book Canada Among Nations 1994

Download or read book Canada Among Nations 1994 written by Maureen Appel Molot and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1994-06-15 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Part of the Peace addresses three areas in international affairs which are of particular concern to Canadian foreign policy makers: multilateralism, regionalism and peacekeeping. The authors consider Canada's involvement within various multilateral institutions, in particular the United Nations and the GATT. The five essays in 'Disengagement From Regionalism' trace developments within Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific, as enthusiasm for regional integration ebbs and flows. The 1994 edition of Canada Among Nations concludes with the issue of peace. As the cold-war era recedes into memory, the new world order turns out to be a time of great uncertainty. Civil strife in Bosnia, Somalia, the former Soviet Union and Cambodia challenge our traditional notions of peacekeeping. As the United Nations' mandate to intervene evolves to meet these challenges, so Canadians are reconsidering their role within that mandate.

Book Human Rights and Good Governance

Download or read book Human Rights and Good Governance written by Hans-Otto Sano and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-08-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, the result of an ongoing Nordic research project undertaken under the auspices of the Danish Centre for Human Rights in Copenhagen and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Lund, examines the relationship and possible interaction between good governance and human rights. The contributors consist of academics and professionals with backgrounds in development studies, economics, law, political science, and sociology. Together they demonstrate the need for interdisciplinary dialogue and clarification of concepts, contents, and processes of realisation. While good governance is mainly pursued in a development context, it is a central message of the book that good governance guidelines ought to have universal applicability, affecting international organisations and public and private actors in Northern as well as Southern countries. Yet an established consensus does not exist on how good governance and human rights can or should complement each other. The book therefore assesses the advantages of using existing links and identifies ways of building new bridges for mutual support between governance and human rights. The authors examine their topics on the basis of theory, best practices, law, the experiences of societies undergoing democratic transition, and other empirical evidence, without attempting to come up with a common definition of good governance. The plurality of interpretations will hopefully further strengthen good governance and human rights as integral elements of a global agenda.
