Download or read book The Ignored Cries of Pain and Injustice from Mauritania written by Sidi Sene and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, a historic and political account, depicts the daily horror endured by hundreds of thousands of blacks in the south of Mauritania and purposefully ignored by the international community. It also pictures the Senegal river valley or at least the north bank of it as an occupied territory highly militarized by the Mauritanian authorities to keep under terror the original inhabitants -blacks from the Fulani, the Wolof and the Soninke ethnic groups- and allow invaders from the north; Moors in general, Arabs in particular; from the Smassid, Moawiya's tribe in singular to illegally occupy and exploit their farm lands .It explains how the whole process has and is still being orchestrated by the central government in Nouakchott. This document gives the reader the smallest and most accurate details about real life and right from wrong about what is being said about Mauritanian's leaders and policies. It also explains how France, since colonization, has played and continues to play an imminent role in the exclusion, the humiliation and the extermination of blacks in the country.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: InAutobiography and Independence, Debra Kelly examines four accomplished Francophone North African writers—Mouland Feroan, Assia Djebar, Albert Memmi, and Abdelkeacute;bir Khatibi—to illuminate the complex relationship of a writer's work to cultural and national histories. The legacies of colonialism and the difficulties of nationalism run throughout all four writers' works, yet in their striking individuality, the four demonstrate the ways in which such heritages are refracted through a writer's personal history. This book will be of interest to students of Francophone literature, colonialism, and African history and culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome To Our Hillbrow is an exhilarating and disturbing ride through the chaotic and hyper-real zone of Hillbrow - microcosm of all that is contradictory, alluring and painful in the changing South African psyche. Everything is there: the shattered dreams of youth, sexuality and its unpredictable costs, AIDS, xenophobia, suicide, the omnipotent violence that often cuts short the promise of young people, and the Africanist understanding of the life continuum that does not end with death but flows on into an ancestral realm. Infused with the rhythms of the inner city pulsebeat, this courageous novel is compelling in its honesty and its broad vision, which links Hillbrow, rural Tiragalong and Oxford. It spills out the guts of Hillbrow-living with the same energy and intimate knowledge ,with which the Drum writers wrote Sophiatown into being.

Book African Studies in Geography from Below

Download or read book African Studies in Geography from Below written by Ben Arrous and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrine of international relations (inter-state, indeed), territorial ideologies, the logic of autochthony and its ramifications, ethnic cleansing, are all hinged at different levels upon the same pseudo-fact: to every society a closed and exclusive territory demarcated by fixed and linear borders. This way of thinking, totally foreign to African societies for a long time, has generated today more contradictions than it can ever solve. The authors of this book make a clear distinction between territory formation "from the top" as being a deliberate political project, and its formation "from below" as being a more diffused historical process which is determined by the scheme of antagonisms and compromises between social forces. In lieu of a stark opposition between "the top" and "below", the authors unveil the interdependence and mutual influence which form the basis of a dual system within which legal formation -by the colonial authorities first, then by the postcolonial one- is confronted with a host of subaltern spatial dynamics, neglecting thereby the legitimacy which only them can provide. As an essential read for anyone who is interested in the relationship between knowledge and power, this book offers stimulating perspectives on the issue of African unity and its epistemological and political challenges. It renews profoundly our approaches to human security, citizenship, borders and mobility. Contributions are in English and in French.
