I mean, what's to like it? Living in Edgewood Valley has been the solution to my problems. When I hire a new PR, I just need her to do what I tell her to do and stay out of my way. Instead, I can't get her out of my head. Unfortunately, the one woman who makes my cold heart beat Is the one girl who wants nothing to do with me. Book 3: Cash CASH After retiring from the Army, all I want is solitude. Or that's what I think. Until I meet her. One problem: her father hates me. And she's not staying. EVERLY When it comes to my happiness, my parents never agree. My mom wants me to marry. My dad wants me to be independent. Neither believe in me or my skills. This girl has grown tough as nails. BEAST She's the one woman I've always wanted. But I was too much of a fool to make a move. She hates me now. And I have one shot at making her mine. Book 5: Dawson ALLIE There's too much going on. My book is a best seller. A blizzard will keep us locked up. And I'll have to live with the man I've always crushed on. DAWSON I have always been obsessed with her curvy body and her brilliant brain. The best I could do to keep my hands away was keeping my distance. But locked inside with her? I don't think I can bear it. It doesn't matter if her brother might kill me. Book 6: Ryder AURORA This was supposed to be a weekend in the mountains. We weren't supposed to be stuck in a blizzard. And I wasn't expecting to fall for him. Big, burly, handsome. Also older. Forbidden. My best friend's dad. This is heartbreak waiting to happen. RYDER The moment I saw her, I knew she would be mine. Those curves called for me, but it were her eyes who made me fall. I'm head over heels for a woman much younger And I don't care how many rules I'm about to break. She is going to be mine. The stories can be read individually. Adults only.

Book excerpt: To know how the West was really won, start with the exploits of these unsung mountain men who, like the legendary Jeremiah Johnson, were real buckskin survivalists. Preceded only by Lewis and Clark, beaver fur trappers roamed the river valleys and mountain ranges of the West, living on fish and game, fighting or trading with the Native Americans, and forever heading toward the untamed wilderness. In this story of rough, heroic men and their worlds, Laycock weaves historical facts and practical instruction with profiles of individual trappers, including harrowing escapes, feats of supreme courage and endurance, and sometimes violent encounters with grizzly bears and Native Americans.

Book From Mountain Man to Millionaire

Download or read book From Mountain Man to Millionaire written by William R. Nester and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2011-06-30 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The western fur trade era—a time when trappers and traders endured constant danger from man, beast, and weather—was one of the most colorful periods in American history. Over a decade ago, William R. Nester wrote the first biography of Robert Campbell (1804–1879); the subsequent discovery of nearly five hundred new documents, most from two major caches of letters, led to this even-more-detailed and vivid account of Campbell’s self-described “bold and dashing life.” Campbell came to America from Ireland in 1822 and entered the fur trade soon after. He quickly rose from trapper to brigade leader to partner, all within a half dozen years, and this new edition includes an expanded narrative of his adventures in the Rocky Mountain fur trade. In the mid-1830s, having amassed considerable wealth, Campbell retired from the mountains and embarked on a new career. He returned to St. Louis and built up a business empire that embraced mercantile, steamboat, railroad, and banking interests, thus becoming a leading force behind the region’s economic development. A more extensive account of the cutthroat business world in which Campbell operated now enriches this portion of the book. Nester masterfully depicts the “sterling character” for which Campbell was renowned. Campbell enjoyed deep and enduring friendships and strong familial ties, both in America and abroad. Although he was an outstanding businessman and philanthropist, his personal life was marred by tragedy. Ten of his thirteen children died prematurely. Despite those tragic losses, his faith in God never faltered. He believed that all worldly successes should honor God and once wrote that , “all worldly gain is but dross.” This edition elucidates the complex relations among his family and chronicles both tragic events and humorous incidents in more depth. Exploring the letters, journals, and account books that Campbell left behind, Nester places him in the context of the times in which he lived, showing the economic, political, social, and cultural forces that provided the opportunities and challenges that shaped his life. Nester provides new insights into Campbell’s ownership of slaves, his attitudes toward slavery, and his behind-the-scenes political and economic activities during the Civil War. This comprehensive exploration of Robert Campbell’s life depicts a fascinating era in American history.

Book Mountain Masculinity

Download or read book Mountain Masculinity written by Tex Wood and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1906, Nello Vernon-Wood (1882-1978) reinvented himself as Tex Wood, Banff hunting guide and writer of "yarns of the wilderness by a competent outdoorsman." His homespun stories of a vanishing world, in such periodicals as The Sportsman, Hunting and Fishing, and the Canadian Alpine Journal, have much to tell us about the west as envisioned by those who wanted to leave the early 20th century behind - or at least read about others who had done so. In the writings of his persona "Tex," Vernon-Wood created an image of the frontier that blended the West of his guiding experiences with the West as a literary object. Editors Gow and Rak guide the reader with a framing introduction to the work, as well as to each article.
