Book Mountain Home Air Force Base

Download or read book Mountain Home Air Force Base written by Yancy D. Mailes and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mountain Home Air Force Base began inauspiciously as a small effort to support and train B-24 combat aircrews for the rigors of World War II. Today it represents the only active-duty air force installation in the heart of Idaho. From its shadowy rebirth in the late 1940s to its buildup under Strategic Air Command, the base housed some of the cold war's most important assets in the battle against communism. Mountain Home's most recent and longest-serving tenant is the world-famous 366th Fighter Wing "Gunfighters." Under the stewardship of the Gunfighters, Mountain Home has been transformed from a remote, dusty World War II airstrip to one of the air force's premier training facilities, readying aircrews and their support agencies for the demands of modern warfare.

Book Environmental Impact Statement for Airspace Optimization for Readiness at Mountain Home Air Force Base Idaho

Download or read book Environmental Impact Statement for Airspace Optimization for Readiness at Mountain Home Air Force Base Idaho written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been prepared to evaluate the potential environmental consequences associated with the Proposed Action of optimizing airspace available to Mountain Home Air Force Base(AFB), Idaho, for air crew training to achieve and maintain proficiency at low altitudes, in mountainous terrain with consistent low-altitude floors. Additionally, the Proposed Action evaluates lowering altitude floors across multiple Military Operations Areas (MOAs)for supersonic training. The current Special Use Air space is inadequately configured to conduct modern real-world training. The technology available to our adversaries has advanced rapidly over the past 25 years. The Proposed Action defines altitude adjustments of the existing Special Use Air space to allow for subsonic low-altitude aircraft training operations, with alternatives that range from 100 feet above ground level(AGL)to 500feet AGL, and supersonic flight as low as 5,000 feet or 10,000 feet AGL. The use of chaff and flares throughout the airspace will continue. The proposed airspace modifications would permit aircrew to build proficiency in low-altitude tactics and terrain masking, for survival in a highly contested environment. This EIS was prepared by the Air Force in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration. The document has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Council on Environmental Quality Regulations for Implementing the Procedural Provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act, the Air Force Environmental Impact Analysis Process located at Title 32of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 989, and Federal Aviation Administration Order 1050.1F, Environmental Impacts: Policies and Procedures. NOTE: Responses to public and agency comments on the Draft EIS can be found in Appendix B(Public Review and Comment), SectionB.2.6.1, beginning on page B-35.

Book Tier One Draft Environmental Impact Statement Volume 2 Realignment of Mountain Home Air Force Base and Proposed Expanded Range Capability

Download or read book Tier One Draft Environmental Impact Statement Volume 2 Realignment of Mountain Home Air Force Base and Proposed Expanded Range Capability written by TACTICAL AIR COMMAND LANGLEY AFB VA. and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared in accordance with Air Force regulations, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the President's Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) guidelines to assess the combined impacts of the Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) realignment and a proposed expanded range capability. This EIS is the beginning or Tier 1 of an environmental analysis process that addresses the specific impacts to MHAFB and its environs. This Tier 1 EIS, in addition to evaluating the specific impacts of the MHAFB realignment actions, identifies and evaluates in general terms the potential expansion of range capability in southwestern Idaho and any reasonable alternatives available to meet training requirements. Air Force short-term, intermediate, and long-term training requirements are also identified in this Tier 1 EIS. Tier 1 will contribute to the decision to either proceed further with detailed studies and analysis for a range capability expansion in southwestern Idaho, or to select other alternatives. This Tier 1 EIS provides the initial framework (operational requirements, range development criteria, environmental attributes for the area, and description of environmental impacts associated with ranges) for use in a subsequent Tier 2 EIS if the decision is made to pursue a range expansion option.
