It was the intention of the author to furnish only a basis for more extensive work, to be pursued by some other member of the family, and as a foundation, then, rather than a complete strue ture, we beg that it be regarded. Errors and inaccuracies will doubtless be found in its pages. It can scarcely be otherwise, since we have been obliged in many cases to depend upon the private records of individuals, rather than the more authentic ones of church or town. Letters from other Moultons have been the principal source of information in every case, except in Chapters VII and VIII. Our hearty thanks are due Mr. Gilman Moulton, of Randolph, Vermont, and Gen. R. A. Alger, of Detroit, Michigan, whose generosity has enabled us to acquire most of the information regarding the descendants of Robert. Since Chronicles and Pentateuch (and also Ezekiel) studies have been regarded as separate fields of study, we invited experts from both fields in order to open a space for fruitful discussions with each other. The contributions deal with connections and interactions between specific texts, ideas, and socio-historical contexts of the literary works, as well as with broad observations of the relationship between them.

This inscription they had visited in a previous year. Further, the quick eye Of the hostess of Dunecht had caught sight of some curious sculptures on a stone by the road-side on the way to the minus cule inscription; and other like stones in the neighbourhood had been shewn in Stuart's two volumes of Sculptural Stones of Scotland. The suggestion was then made that for the sake of visitors at Dunecht a sort Of guide book should be prepared, giving some simple description of the several Objects and their meaning and uses.
