Fatherlessness afflicts nearly half the households in America, and it has reached epidemic proportions in the African-American community, with especially devastating consequences for black women. In this powerful book, accomplished journalist Jonetta Rose Barras breaks the code of silence and gives voice to the experiences of America's fatherless women--starting with herself. Passionate and shockingly frank, Whatever Happened to Daddy's Little Girl? is the first book to explore the plight of America's fatherless daughters from the unique perspective of the African-American community. This brilliant volume gives all fatherless daughters the knowledge that they are not alone and the courage to overcome the hidden pain they have suffered for so long.

Book Daddy s Special Little Girl

Download or read book Daddy s Special Little Girl written by Jody Lynn Enders and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-11 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Is it possible to describe the confusion and shame I felt every time daddy came to my bedroom and used me to fulfill his sexual perversion? Is it possible to describe the fear that consumed me when I thought I was pregnant with my dad’s baby?” Daddy’s Special Little Girl is a heart-on-your-sleeve memoir about growing up in an abusive home with five siblings, an alcoholic father, and a courageous mother—about desperate attempts to cope with unbearable pain, about surviving the betrayal and devastation of incest and the rejection of divorce, about God’s forgiveness and healing. The author bares her soul as she takes you on an inconceivable journey that includes graphic scenes of her abuse, honest exposure of her own sin, paralyzing anguish and sorrow she endures, and raw emotions as she accepts her dad’s prison sentence and death. You will weep as you read about the heartbreaking encounters and effects of the hideous crime of incest. You will rejoice as you experience the forgiveness, love, and support this family had for their dad and each other. In Daddy’s Special Little Girl, Jody reveals the lingering devastation of a family crime no one wants to talk about. Her transparency is disarming, her case compelling, and her focus on healing. For the thousands who have experienced the pain of incest, the book points the way to help. For those who would like to believe that “these things don’t happen in Christian homes,” Daddy’s Special Little Girl will explode the myth. —Gary D. Chapman, Ph.D Author of The Five Love Languages

Book God s Biker

Download or read book God s Biker written by Sean Stillman and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'An extraordinary, authentic example of discipleship, and the honouring and validation of the radiant "broken jewels" on society's margins.' Stewart Henderson, poet, broadcaster and lyricist Zac’s Place is a church in Swansea. It is a small chaotic community of Jesus followers where some of the most fragile of life’s walking wounded try to work out their faith. It’s also the spiritual home for the local chapter of God’s Squad motorcycle club. Zac’s Place, founded in 1998, is led by Sean Stillman, whose front-line ministry has cost him dearly and has included physical beatings. In Zac’s Place, chaos and disorder sit alongside community and grace in an environment resembling an AA meeting mixed with a casualty department. This is Sean’s personal story of a transformed faith amid the broken, the church community that formed from it and the European-wide growth of an unlikely bunch of biker missionaries. God’s Biker asks the questions, ‘What if it’s not about perfection? What if it’s about beauty in broken places?’

Book excerpt: When award-winning television news anchor Cheryl Wills discovers that her great-great-great grandfather, Sandy Wills, was a runaway slave who joined the historic fight for freedom in the American Civil War, she embarks on a gut-wrenching search to learn more. Cheryl¿s journey leads her to a courageous ancestor who demonstrated the same courage that she knew in her beloved father, an intrepid New York City firefighter, who died when she was thirteen. Her father never knew his family¿s notable legacy. Told with deep love and brow-raising honesty, "Die Free" stretches from Haywood County, Tennessee, in the 1860s to New York City in the twentieth century. Cheryl shares the unvarnished truth about the Wills¿ family roots, ever entwined in passion, music, and faith. Cheryl also exhumes the spirit of her great-great- great grandmother Emma Wills, an illiterate lionhearted widow, who was discriminated against as she fought to obtain her husband¿s Civil War pension and unwittingly dictated her historic life, from slavery to freedom, in sworn depositions to a lawyer. The century-old pension papers become the Holy Grail for the newscaster who nails a scoop that has forever changed her life and that of future generations. A lesson in the pruning of one¿s imagination, "Die Free" takes readers on a haunting yet exhilarating ride through the side door of American history.

Book Blood on the Corn Uncovering the Assault Sites of my Toddlerhood

Download or read book Blood on the Corn Uncovering the Assault Sites of my Toddlerhood written by Madeleine Watson and published by Madeleine Watson. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 26 October 2016, a horrific memory came up. I was fifty-one years old and living with my partner and two children. Throughout my life, I suffered depression, I couldn’t forge relationships and found life difficult. My childhood home was a cramped cottage with warring parents and little money coming in. I naturally explained my problems to this. Only this. What I didn’t realise was that an uncle lived in my toddlerhood home. His mention was scarce and I kept gleaning over this detail, thinking it irrelevant. It was his face I had seen in this memory. I have now come to realise I was raped at the age of three. I am horrified to think he had lived with us for so long. What else has he done to me? No wonder I constantly sought diversion. No wonder I suffered depression. I was trying to run away from myself. One diversion was a diary. A detailed one. My diary has enabled me to establish assault sites in the village, for Uncle Dan took me out in the pushchair. He then committed acts of rape on deserted roadsides. With my diaries, I have been able to journey into a past I didn’t know existed. The journey begins here. With illustrations and photographs.

Book Raised in the South

Download or read book Raised in the South written by Seymour S. Lenz and published by Seymour Sylvester Lenz. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of short stories about being raised as one of six kids in a poor family in South Georgia. As a young boy, my mother told me that I had a vocation to be a priest and I was sent off to the seminary at St. Bernard's Monastery in Cullman, Alabama. Some of my memories are full of adventure and others are about struggle and hardship in a large family. My stories tell of the obstacles I faced, how they affected me, and how I dealt with them. The happiest stories are about my friends and the monks at St. Bernard's who influenced my life and helped me to grow into a young man full of optimism and opportunity. My experiences in life, while growing up, helped me to form my identity. They are part of who I am.
