Book Gasoline Engine Management

Download or read book Gasoline Engine Management written by Konrad Reif and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The call for environmentally compatible and economical vehicles necessitates immense efforts to develop innovative engine concepts. Technical concepts such as gasoline direct injection helped to save fuel up to 20 % and reduce CO2-emissions. Descriptions of the cylinder-charge control, fuel injection, ignition and catalytic emission-control systems provides comprehensive overview of today ́s gasoline engines. This book also describes emission-control systems and explains the diagnostic systems. The publication provides information on engine-management-systems and emission-control regulations.

Book Emission Control and Fuel Economy

Download or read book Emission Control and Fuel Economy written by John H Johnson and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2005-06-27 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emission and fuel economy regulations and standards are compelling manufacturers to build ultra-low emission vehicles. As a result, engineers must develop spark-ignition engines with integrated emission control systems that use reformulated low-sulfur fuel. Emission Control and Fuel Economy for Port and Direct Injected SI Engines is a collection of SAE technical papers that covers the fundamentals of gasoline direct injection (DI) engine emissions and fuel economy, design variable effects on HC emissions, and advanced emission control technology and modeling approaches. All papers contained in this book were selected by an accomplished expert as the best in the field; reprinted in their entirety, they present a pathway to integrated emission control systems that meet 2004-2009 EPA standards for light-duty vehicles.

Book Control Technologies for Emission Reduction in a Spark Ignited Engine

Download or read book Control Technologies for Emission Reduction in a Spark Ignited Engine written by Santosh Puranik and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emissions are becoming major concerns for the motor vehicle industry. With stringent rules and regulations, every vehicle manufacturer's major focus is now on improving technology to produce a fuel efficient and considerably reduce emissions from an engine. Considering these effects, steps are being taken to improve driving styles and driving aggressiveness. There is abundant research being carried out in this field, due to ever increasing costs of petroleum and a high increase in vehicle usage. A number of factors affect fuel consumption and vehicle performance. These are divided into two basic categories by Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), namely the powertrain and non-powertrain components. Engine, transmission and the Electronic control systems belong to the powertrain category and factors such as vehicle weight, aerodynamics, rolling resistance to the non-powertrain category[1]. This thesis focuses on engine calibration on a United States Environmental Protection agency (EPA) approved drive cycle. A 5.7L Chevrolet Small Block crate engine used on a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe is tested on a water brake dynamometer and calibrated for emissions using a drive cycle according to Federal test Procedure (FTP) and compared to EPA emission standards achieved on a chassis dynamometer. A set of load points are calculated from FTP drive cycle based on various vehicle parameters. The engine is then tested at each of these load points and based on the results the engine is calibrated. In Addition to engine calibration, this thesis also attempts to study the influence of exhaust manifold on fuel consumption and emissions on a Spark Ignition (SI) Engine. The SI engine is tested on the dynamometer with three different exhaust manifolds of varied dimensions. Brake Mean Effective Pressure, Brake specific fuel consumption are analyzed. The experimental analysis was carried at different RPM at different loads.

Book Cleaner Cars

Download or read book Cleaner Cars written by J Robert Mondt and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2000-01-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book chronicles a 35-year success story - the technology that was developed and the progress that was made to achieve the goal of reducing air pollution from automobiles. "Air pollution from automobiles as of the year 2000 will have been lowered to levels less than 5% of those for pre-control era vehicles," writes author J. Robert Mondt, who spent over 30 years working on the development of emission control systems for automobiles. Mondt covers both the technological and political aspects of this effort, from the early environmental concerns in California to the Clean Air Acts of the 1960s to the introduction of catalytic converters in 1975. He also covers the revised Clean Air Acts of the 1960s to the introduction of catalytic converters in 1975.
