Book Work Performance as a Function of the Interaction of Ability Work Values and the Perceived Work Environment

Download or read book Work Performance as a Function of the Interaction of Ability Work Values and the Perceived Work Environment written by Robert Lee Hannan and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literature pertaining to the prediction of performance from ability, motivation and their interaction was reviewed. Three personal traits (achievement motivation, locus of control, and bureaucratic values) are examined as possible antecedents of work motivation and performance. A model of work motivation that depends on the strength of the personal traits interacting with their environmental compatibility was developed. An empirical study on 417 police officers was conducted to test hypotheses generated from the models. Measures of the personal traits were developed and administered along with a questionnaire used to ascertain perceptions of the work environment. Supervisor's ratings of performance were collected as well as demographic and ability measures. Moderated multiple regression analyses found strong evidence for the performance-related validity of the work motivation model. Neither ability nor the ability-motivation interaction showed any relationship to performance.

Download or read book Work Motivation in Organizational Behavior written by Craig C. Pinder and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-07-17 with total page 855 pages. A heavy emphasis is placed on the notion that behavior in the workplace is determined by a mix of factors, many of which are not treated in texts on work motivation (such as frustration and violence, power, love, and sex). Examples from current and recent media events are numerous, and intended to illustrate concepts and issues related to work motivation, emotion, attitudes, and behavior.

Book Changing Employee Behavior

Download or read book Changing Employee Behavior written by Nik Kinley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important part of every manager's job is changing people's behavior: to improve someone's performance, get them to better manage relationships with colleagues, or to stop them doing something. Yet, despite the fact that changing people's behavior is such an important skill for managers, too many are unsure how to actually go about it. This book reveals the simple, but powerful techniques for changing behavior that experts from a range of disciplines have been using for years, making them available to all managers in a single and comprehensive toolkit for change that managers can use to drive and improve the performance of their staff. Based on research conducted for this book, it introduces practical techniques drawn from the fields of psychology, psychotherapy, and behavioral economics, and show how they can be applied to address some of the most common, every-day challenges that managers face. #changingpeople

Book Intrinsic Motivation and Its Determinants as Factors Enhancing the Prediction of Job Performance from Ability

Download or read book Intrinsic Motivation and Its Determinants as Factors Enhancing the Prediction of Job Performance from Ability written by Ann Howard and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance is often hypothesized to be a function of the interaction of ability and motivation, but past studies of this hypothesis have been sparse, and the researchers often used inadequate measures and inappropriate statistical analyses. The primary purpose of the present research was to explore the relationship of ability and intrinsic motivation in the prediction of job performance. Intrinsic motivation was traced to two primary determinants. One, an organizational factor, is the extent to which an employee's job is 'enriched, ' or incorporates challenging elements such as autonomy and variety. A second determinant is an individual difference factor--the extent to which the individual desires to achieve and grow. Two primary hypotheses were tested and the results are discussed.

Book Organizational Psychology

Download or read book Organizational Psychology written by Steve M. Jex and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-11-08 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive treatment of the science and practice of organizational psychology Following a scientist-practitioner model, Organizational Psychology explores the practical implications of the current research in the field, expertly integrating multicultural and international issues. Beginning with a foundation of research methodology, author Steve Jex examines the behavior of individuals in organizational settings. Drawing on his experiences as a consultant and educator, he uses actual cases to illustrate workplace issues, offering balanced coverage of such key topics as occupational stress, motivation, and corporate culture. Also presented is unique information on research methods and the use of statistics in understanding organizations. With an emphasis on applying theory and research in practice, Jex explores the mechanisms that organizations use to influence employees' behavior, addressing the major motivation theories in organizational psychology. Readers will discover how psychological models can be used to improve employee morale, productivity, and quality of service. The focus then shifts from the individual to the group level-an important distinction given the increased reliance on teams in many organizations. Jex identifies the factors that have the greatest impact on group effectiveness and examines the dynamics underlying intergroup behavior. Finally, he moves to the organization ("macro") level, revealing a variety of ways in which organizations engage in planned change with the assistance of behavioral science knowledge.
