Book Working with Millennials

Download or read book Working with Millennials written by Marc Robertson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book directly addresses the issues and problems that leaders face in today's business environment—and provides tangible and usable techniques to overcome these challenges. Millennial-generation managers and employees—those ages 18–35—have transformed business in America. More than any previous generation, they don't conform to the traditional ways of doing things. Rather than passively taking orders, Millennials thirst for engagement, expect to be part of a team, and need to be engaged in meaningful tasks. And they aren't as devoted to the corporation as much as they are to the product or service that's provided. This book guides readers—people in management positions or in any corporate setting—in embracing these key differences and nurturing their abilities to listen and empathize with coworkers, supervisors, and employees. Readers will also learn the best ways to encourage and motivate this unique generation in a way that is familiar to them and still serves to push them to work hard, improve, and grow. The book demonstrates how to lead and manage Millennials, explains how to motivate them, and describes how to help them develop professionally. It gives managers the tools and techniques to satisfy Millennials' need to advance rapidly in their careers—and explains how to become a supporter of this desire instead of appearing to stand in their way. Turning the traditional notion of business management on its head, it shows that taking a caring and humanistic approach to employees, coworkers, and colleagues leads to increased productivity, efficiency, and profitability. These same techniques that foster open communication and trust will help companies to create office cultures that encourage people to be self-motivated and minimize worker turnover.

Book Motivating the Knowledge Worker to Perform

Download or read book Motivating the Knowledge Worker to Perform written by Gillian Milne and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competitive advantage for any organisation relies on the output of knowledge workers. The more motivated the knowledge worker the more likely they are to perform. This research explores the links between motivation and performance and creates a better understanding of which motivational factors would fall within the ambit of the psychological contract. The secondary portion of the research was to clarify if different types of knowledge workers performed in response to motivation in the same way. The research was done through in-depth interviews of knowledge workers in the 4 defined clusters. A total of 26 interviews were conducted. A questionnaire using open ended questions was used to guide the interview. The interviews were recorded, and the key themes in the results were captured, transformed and analysed, after which a ranking process was done on the results. The findings were analysed from various perspectives. The research found that there are differences in the groups studied from a number of perspectives, such as: motivation and performance scores, the motivation factors, the factors that act against performance, the organisational and individual duties as would be held in the psychological contract. The research found that most of the factors that motivate are in the psychological contract. The findings strongly recommend that management needs to fully understand and manage the unique motivators of each individual knowledge worker in order to obtain maximum performance and hence competitive advantage.

Book excerpt: This book shows managers how to identify opportunities for increasing productivity by enhancing commitment and provides tools for building a high-performing team. More than ever, senior and frontline managers are tasked with the development and maintenance of highly productive teams—a formidable challenge in all situations. Organizational directives for "lean," highly responsive, change-adaptive workforces have created an environment in which every aspect of productivity must be examined and improved in the quest to meet increasingly competitive global goals. This book gives managers the tools they need to motivate their teams to deliver significantly better results. Readers of Motivation: The Manager's Key to Closing the Commitment Gap will gain a foundational understanding of motivation from theoretical, experimental, and anecdotal perspectives and identify key areas of potential untapped productivity. The book explores the changing workforce values, economic pressures, and the revised compact between employers and employees that create the commitment gap that results in untapped productivity. Managers will see how to go through a diagnostic and relationship-building process that creates powerful and productive dialogues, resolves conflict, and pinpoints behaviors and identifies tools to build a fully committed, high-performing team.
