Book The Life and Times of Moses

Download or read book The Life and Times of Moses written by Jim Whiting and published by Mitchell Lane. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moses is probably the most important figure in the Old Testament of the Bible. Born into a Hebrew family, he was rescued from a cruel death and raised in the court of the Pharaoh. But after killing an Egyptian, he fled into the desert. Many years later, God appeared to him in the form of a burning bush. He ordered Moses to go back to Egypt and lead the Hebrews out of bondage and into the Promised Land. It wasn t easy. The Hebrews spent many years wandering in the desert, during which time Moses received the Ten Commandments twice. He smashed the stone tablets on which they were inscribed the first time because the Hebrews had begun worshiping a golden calf during his absence. Despite all the difficulties and the dangers, Moses determined leadership finally brought his people to the Promised Land. He died before he could accompany his fellow Hebrews into their new home.

Book excerpt: What if the key to changing your life--and yourself--is already in your hand? So many women struggle with what to do with their daily lives. They feel trapped in everyday drudgery and disappointment, in dull domestic duties, and in mundane jobs they despise. Where is the abundant, purposeful life they were promised? Kari Patterson shows readers the truth: in each unremarkable life lies an opportunity to see, know, love, and be utterly transformed by a God who meets everyone right where they are. Instead of stepping away from real life to find God, Patterson equips women with a six-step practice to move further in and meet Him in the humdrum moments of everyday existence. And when a woman's inner being is truly changed by the sacred, everything in her world changes too--right down to tackling the dirty dishes. Through entertaining narrative, candid real-life stories, Bible study, and practical instruction, Sacred Mundane guides individuals or small groups to discover the beautiful sacredness in the lives they already lead. Women who long to grow in God and make a real difference in the world--no matter how small--will reach eagerly for this book and the radical transformation it offers. "Our daily routine, with its mundane tasks and mindless repetition, is ultimately an offering of worship to God. What a great truth from a great God!" --Ann Byle, author of The Making of a Christian Bestseller and coauthor of Devotions for the Soul Surfer

Book Following Moses

Download or read book Following Moses written by Frank de Ruyter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the Passover is pivotal to biblical history, and Judaism is really defined by what transpired between God and Moses at Mount Sinai. Yet modern Egypt still shrugs its shoulders at the Exodus narrative, and archaeologists like to point out that physical evidence for up to three million Israelites camped for forty years in the Sinai Peninsula is lacking. Christians and Jews still argue about where the Red Sea crossing actually took place. Following Moses attempts to revisit the Exodus question without predisposition. It rationalizes the numbers led by Moses, rebuilds and recalibrates the histories of Israel and Egypt, locates the dynasty and political situation of the time, and traces Moses wanderings with the grumbling Israelites not in Sinai - but in Arabia allowing both Moses and Israel to see off the forty years ban in a place Moses knew intimately, before Joshua finally stepped up to carry Israel forward into its Canaanite promise. The Gulf of Aqaba formed through a massive tectonic movement that brought about the ten plagues in Egypt and sunk ancient Thera. The same rupture formed the Dead Sea basin, tipped Israel eastward and reversed the flow of the Jordan. The desperate Israelites crossed the Red Sea where the modern Strait of Tiran still extends, but at a time when sea levels were one hundred and twenty feet lower than today. The Hand of God lowered the sea still further, allowing Israel to use this submarine land-bridge while it lasted. Mount Sinai finally appears to be modern Jebel Al Lawz, at the western extremity of the Sinai Wilderness, where Moses also originally met God and learned his Name at the burning bush. With these revisions, the Story of Moses is historically reborn..
