Book Metal Clusters and Their Reactivity

Download or read book Metal Clusters and Their Reactivity written by Zhixun Luo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses current techniques and instrumentation for cluster chemistry. It addresses both the experimental and theoretical aspects of gas-phase metal cluster reactivities, especially those pertaining to pollution removal, energetic reactions and corrosion and anticorrosion. These metal cluster systems have attracted enormous interest as they display a completely new class of physical, chemical, electronic, magnetic and catalytic properties. As these properties change with size and composition, it can thus be understood how their nature evolves from atoms to bulk solids. The book offers readers a basic understanding of the structural chemistry and reactivity of metal clusters in both gas-phase and wet chemistry. Further, the lessons they learn here regarding metal cluster chemistry will prepare researchers for the study of condensed phase dynamics that pertain to wet chemical synthesis, soft-landing deposition and cluster assembly.

Book Solid State Chemistry of Inorganic Materials IV Volume 755

Download or read book Solid State Chemistry of Inorganic Materials IV Volume 755 written by M. Á. Alario-Franco and published by . This book was released on 2003-08-14 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception in the mid-twentieth century, solid-state chemistry has matured within the chemical sciences. In the same way that chemistry itself is considered a central science, solid-state chemistry is central in its many relations to physics, in particular to solid-state physics and also to materials science and engineering. There are few problems in materials science or engineering in which the preparation of the material itself is not a central issue and, more often than not, this will be a solid-state chemical problem. For these reasons, it is not surprising that in the technological development of the last century, solid-state chemistry has grown in importance. It is not only a synthesis science, it is also the science of structures, defects, stoichiometry, and physical chemical properties. Most of these are explored in the book. Topics include: metal-to-insulator transition; porous materials; dielectric materials; nanomaterials; synthesis of materials; films and catalytic materials; CMR materials; thermoelectric materials; dielectrics, catalysts, phosphors, films and properties and synthesis and crystal growth.

Book Self assembled Nanostructured Materials

Download or read book Self assembled Nanostructured Materials written by Yunfeng Lu and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanostructures with critical dimensions less than 100nm endow materials with unique and often superior mechanical, electronic, magnetic and optical properties, which are expected to lead to numerous advanced applications. The current nanotechnology roadmap focuses on exploration and prediction of novel properties of materials at the nanoscale, of efficient synthesis and manufacture of nanoscale materials, and of the integration of nanoscale materials into real-world devices and applications. Self assembly, in which complex building blocks are organized into hierarchical structures via noncovalent interactions, has emerged as one of the most promising techniques for the efficient fabrication of nanostructured materials. This proceedings volume focuses on synthesis of novel nanostructured materials via self assembly, the fundamental understanding of self-assembly processes, the unique properties of nanostructured materials, and their potential applications. The volume is a compendium of current discussions of these topics with special emphasis on the synthesis and fabrication of nanostructured materials via self assembly of organic molecules such as surfactants and block copolymers, inorganic and metallic nanoclusters, nanoparticles, nanorods, nanowires, and other building blocks. It also contains reports on the novel properties and applications of nanostructured materials.

Book GaN and Related Alloys 2002 Volume 743

Download or read book GaN and Related Alloys 2002 Volume 743 written by Materials Research Society. Meeting and published by . This book was released on 2003-06-02 with total page 900 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This year's nitride symposium showed the scope of nitride-related advances spanning basic materials physics over process technology to high-performance devices. Progress was reported in bulk growth of GaN and AlN, growth on various substrates and substrate orientations, optical properties of InN, defect and doping analysis of p-doped GaN, and polarization properties. These led to new performance records in visible light emitter technology, i.e., higher efficiency/higher brightness, UV emitters with shorter wavelength, and UV and photo detectors. Advances in the development of nitride-based electronic devices with new heterostructure FET designs for RF power applications, including those on Si substrates and wafer fusion, are also reported. This book captures the exciting developments in this rapidly progressing field. Topics include: epitaxy - devices and defect reduction; defects and characterization; epitaxy - nonpolar orientations and alloys; optical properties; UV emitters and detectors; visible light emitters; electronic devices; characterization of defects and transport; and contacts, processing and p-type nitrides.

Book Three Dimensional Nanoengineered Assemblies Volume 739

Download or read book Three Dimensional Nanoengineered Assemblies Volume 739 written by T. M. Orlando and published by . This book was released on 2003-06-13 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in nanoscale materials processing are taking place at a rapid pace via myriad paths, including lithography, production of nanoparticle assemblies, surface manipulation and many others. Several of the techniques create structures that are three-dimensional or quasi three-dimensional. Even smaller structures intended to be two-dimensional have a 'more' three-dimensional geometry as their two-dimensional feature size and layer thickness become similar. The properties of these denser assemblies are driving different applications in electronics (single-electron devices), optics (photonic crystals and switches) and elsewhere. This 2003 book provides a venue for a productive scientific and technical exchange. The result is a compilation of papers which address fundamental studies, technological advances and novel approaches to developing and processing three-dimensional nanoscale assemblies. Topics include: nanofabrication via lithographic techniques; unconventional fabrication methods of nano-structures; physics, chemistry and modeling of nanostructures; fabrication and properties of 1D nanostructures; fabrication and properties of 3D nanostructures; applications of nanostructures and devices.

Book Materials Inspired by Biology

Download or read book Materials Inspired by Biology written by James L. Thomas (Ph. D.) and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continued interest in the field of biologically inspired materials is strongly motivated by the fact that the nanoscale and microscale organization found in biological materials often leads to exceptional macroscopic materials properties. The ability to mimic these structures should lead to new synthetic materials with similarly remarkable behavior in both biomedical and materials arenas. This has led to an enormous amount of research in a variety of materials areas, including those aimed at: 1) unique ceramics or composites for use in biomaterials, magnetic and optical applications; 2) self-assembled biopolymeric systems for use in biomaterials and biosensor applications; and 3) colloidal and amphiphilic systems for application in biomedicine, nanotechnology and biosensors. Accordingly, this volume brings together a broad range of researchers whose interests span the full breadth of biology, and in addition, those who find different inspiration in biology itself. For some, that inspiration is in the creation of new materials that have important biological (especially biomedical) applications. For others, it is the imitation of the behavior of a biological material, molecule or process that is of interest. Finally, with increasing frequency, researchers are drawing inspiration from the synthetic pathways that biology uses, exploiting these pathways, and modifying them chemically or genetically to make entirely novel molecules and materials. Biologically inspired materials is a rapidly evolving arena of materials science research, and the work presented here reflects recent advances and new perspectives in the field. Topics include: tissue engineering and biomaterials; novel biomimeticand bioinspired polymers; biomineralization, colloidal and templated materials; and amphiphilic membranes and surfaces.
