Book Taxonomic Revision of the Mexicanus Group of the Genus Vaejovis C L Koch 1836 Scorpiones Vaejovidae

Download or read book Taxonomic Revision of the Mexicanus Group of the Genus Vaejovis C L Koch 1836 Scorpiones Vaejovidae written by Gerardo A. Contreras-Félix and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract "Within the scorpion genus Vaejovis C.L. Koch, the “mexicanus” group is composed of species distributed in the mountains of México. This group presents taxonomic problems, because its characterization and the species included in the group have varied through the years. In the present work, we redefine this group based on several morphological characters, and we differentiate it from the other two species groups within the genus: “vorhiesi” and “nit dulus+nigrescens”. Additionally, five new species are described: Vaejovis ceboruco sp. nov., Vaejovis nanchititla sp. nov., Vaejovis santibagnezi sp. nov., Vaejovis talpa sp. nov. and Vaejovis tapalpa sp. nov; the males of three species are described for the first time (V. dugesi, V. nigrofemoratus and V. tesselatus); and the updated diagnosis for all species is included. Keys for the identification of males and females of the 30 species included in. Keywords: group characterization, species diagnoses, new species, dichotomous keys, Myriapoda"--Page 3.

Book Contributions to Scorpion Systematics

Download or read book Contributions to Scorpion Systematics written by Michael E. Soleglad and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stockwell (1989), in an unpublished revision, suggested splitting the family Vaejovidae in two subfamilies, introducing also four tribes and four new genera. These results have not been reevaluated for 20 years. Here, we establish a new subfamily Smeringurinae, subfam. nov., with two tribes, four genera, and 40 species and subspecies. The subfamily Smeringurinae includes two tribes: Smeringurini, trib. nov. and Paravaejovini, trib. nov. The tribe Smeringurini includes three genera: Paruroctonus Werner, 1934; Smeringurus Haradon, 1983; and Vejovoidus Stahnke, 1974. The tribe Paravaejovini includes the genus Paravaejovis Williams, 1980. We restore from synonymy the subfamily Syntropinae Kraepelin, 1905, and significantly expand its scope to include two tribes, two subtribes, eight genera, and 75 species and subspecies. The subfamily Syntropinae includes two tribes: Stahnkeini Soleglad et Fet, 2006, and Syntropini Kraepelin, 1905. The tribe Stahnkeini includes four genera: Gertschius Graham et Soleglad, 2007; Serradigitus Stahnke, 1974; Stahnkeus Soleglad et Fet, 2006; and Wernerius, gen. nov. The tribe Syntropini includes two subtribes, Syntropina Kraepelin, 1905, and Thorelliina, subtrib. nov. The subtribe Syntropina includes two genera, Syntropis Kraepelin, 1900 and Hoffmannius, gen. nov. The subtribe Thorelliina includes two new genera, Thorellius, gen. nov. and Kochius, gen. nov. Four new genera accommodate species from the former "eusthenura," "intrepidus," "punctipalpi," and "spicatus" groups of Vaejovis. One new species from Durango, Mexico is described, Kochius kovariki Soleglad et Fet, sp. nov. Thorellius cristimanus, stat. nov. and T. atrox, stat. nov. are elevated to species from subspecies level. Our results confirm, in part, the phylogeny proposed by Stockwell (1989), with its further splitting of the overly inflated genus Vaejovis. The remaining default nominotypic subfamily, Vaejovinae Thorell, 1876, still unrevised at this time, is reduced to 66 species and subspecies, grouped in four genera, Franckeus, Pseudouroctonus, Uroctonites, and Vaejovis (the latter being divided into the "mexicanus" and "nigrescens" groups). Phylogenetic relationships within subfamilies Smeringurinae, Syntropinae, and Vaejovinae are discussed. As a result of the current revision, the family Vaejovidae now includes three subfamilies, four tribes, two subtribes, and 15 genera, with a total of 181 species-group taxa.

Book Systematic Revision of the Neotropical Scorpion Genus Chactopsis Kraepelin 1912 Chactoidea Chactidae with Descriptions of Two New Genera and Four New Species

Download or read book Systematic Revision of the Neotropical Scorpion Genus Chactopsis Kraepelin 1912 Chactoidea Chactidae with Descriptions of Two New Genera and Four New Species written by José A. Ochoa and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Neotropical chactid scorpion genus Chactopsis Kraepelin, 1912, is revised. New diagnoses are presented for all previously described species, most of which have not been revised since their original description. The trichobothrial pattern is reinterpreted and the hemispermatophore described for the first time. Chactopsis is restricted to eight species, two of which are new: Chactopsis chullachaqui, n. sp., from Peru and Chactopsis curupira, n. sp., from Brazil. Chactopsis insignis Kraepelin, 1912, is redescribed and supplementary data on pedipalp trichobothria and hemispermatophore (where known) provided for Chactopsis amazonica Lourenço and Francke, 1986, Chactopsis barajuri González-Sponga, 1982, Chactopsis buhrnheimi Lourenço, 2003, Chactopsis siapaensis González-Sponga, 1991, and Chactopsis sujirima González-Sponga, 1982. Two new genera are created to accommodate the remaining species, formerly assigned to Chactopsis, based on a cladistic analysis of morphological characters. Chactopsoides, n. gen., accommodates Chactopsoides anduzei (González-Sponga, 1982), n. comb. (type species), and Chactopsoides marahuacaensis (González-Sponga, 2004), n. comb., Chactopsoides gonzalezspongai, n. sp., from Venezuela, and Chactopsoides yanomami (Lourenço et al., 2011), n. comb., from Brazil. Chactopsoides anduzei, n. comb., is redescribed and Chactopsis carolinae Botero-Trujillo, 2008, synonymized with it. Supplementary data on pedipalp trichobothria are provided for C. marahuacaensis, n. comb. Megachactops, n. gen., accommodates Megachactops coriaceo (González-Sponga, 1991), n. comb., and Megachactops kuemoi, n. sp. (type species), from Venezuela. Supplementary data on pedipalp trichobothria and hemispermatophore are provided for M. coriaceo, n. comb. A key to identification of the species of Chactopsis, Chactopsoides, n. gen., and Megachactops, n. gen., is provided, their morphology illustrated, and distribution records mapped.

Book Phylogeny of the Troglomorphic Scorpion Genus Troglotayosicus Scorpiones Troglotayosicidae

Download or read book Phylogeny of the Troglomorphic Scorpion Genus Troglotayosicus Scorpiones Troglotayosicidae written by Jairo A. Moreno-González and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The troglomorphic scorpion genus Troglotayosicus Lourenço, 1981, occurs in hypogean and epigean habitats in the Andean and Amazonian rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador. The phylogenetic relationships among the species of Troglotayosicus are currently unknown. In the present contribution, a new species, Troglotayosicus akaido, sp. nov., is described from specimens collected in the leaf litter of a primary rainforest in the Colombian Amazon, near the border with Peru, raising the number of species in the genus to seven. The new species represents the easternmost record of the genus and further extends its distribution into the Amazon. Its phylogenetic position was tested in an analysis of all species of the genus and two outgroup taxa, scored for 131 morphological characters (16 new and 115 legacy; 104 binary and 27 multistate) analyzed with maximum likelihood under the MK model. Troglotayosicus was recovered as monophyletic and composed of two main clades. The morphological survey revealed that the ventral macrosetae of the leg telotarsi of the type species, Troglotayosicus vachoni Lourenço, 1981, are simple, subspiniform macrosetae, irregularly distributed, but not arranged into clusters nor forming elongated clusters of setae/spinules, as previously suggested. A distribution map and key to the identification of the species of Troglotayosicus are provided. Further research, incorporating molecular data, is needed to understand the evolution and biogeographical history of this enigmatic scorpion genus.

Book Systematic Revision of the North American Syntropine Vaejovid Scorpion Genera Balsateres Kuarapu and Thorellius with Descriptions of Three New Species

Download or read book Systematic Revision of the North American Syntropine Vaejovid Scorpion Genera Balsateres Kuarapu and Thorellius with Descriptions of Three New Species written by Edmundo González-Santillán and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four genera formed a monophyletic group, referred to as the Kochius clade, in the phylogeny of the North American vaejovid scorpion subfamily Syntropinae Kraepelin, 1905: Balsateres González-Santillán and Prendini, 2013; Kochius Soleglad and Fet, 2008; Kuarapu Francke and Ponce-Saavedra, 2010; and Thorellius Soleglad and Fet, 2008. In the present contribution, all except Kochius, treated elsewhere, are revised. The monotypic Balsateres and Kuarapu are redescribed. Thorellius cristimanus (Pocock, 1898) and Thorellius intrepidus (Thorell, 1876) are redescribed and their type localities discussed and clarified. Three new species of Thorellius are described: Thorellius tekuani; Thorellius wixarika; and Thorellius yuyuawi. Vaejovis intrepidus atrox Hoffmann, 1931, is newly synonymized with T. cristimanus based on examination of the type material. A key to identification of the species of Thorellius is presented, and new locality records and updated distribution maps provided for all species covered.

Book Taxonomic Revision of the Colombian Tityus Archaeotityus Scorpiones Buthidae Species

Download or read book Taxonomic Revision of the Colombian Tityus Archaeotityus Scorpiones Buthidae Species written by author 1 and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Abstract: We present a taxonomic revision of the Colombian Tityus (Archaeotityus) species based on morphological and morphometric evidence. We examined more than 385 specimens and evaluated new and previously used qualitative and quantitative morphological characters. We redescribe the Colombian species and present morphological characters for both sexes and an emended diagnosis for the subgenus Tityus (Archaeotityus). We describe a new species Tityus guane sp. nov. from Santander department, Colombia, Tityus betschi Lourenço 1992 is synonymized with Tityus parvulus Kraepelin, 1914, and Tityus wayuu Rojas-Runjaic & Armas, 2007 is synonymized with Tityus tayrona Lourenço, 1991. We measured 186 specimens and performed a multivariate principal component analysis (PCA) for 34 selected morphometric ratios for each sex. We found that a few morphological ratios support species level distinctions within the Colombian species. We provide updated distributional maps with new records and an identification key for both sexes. Furthermore, we provide an updated checklist for the subgenus and a discussion about the character systems used within Tityus (Archaeotityus). The new morphological characters proposed and the traditional morphometry examined with a PCA are useful for studying Tityus (Archaeotityus) taxonomy. Keywords: Arachnida, Scorpions, South America, Neotropical region, Scorpiones"--Page 3.
