Book excerpt: If someone were to ask you why you believe that the Bible is the Word of God, what would you tell them? What kind of evidence would you present? If it is truly the word of God, then there should be some kind of proof provided by God himself. I contend that there is given proof and that true Bible faith must be based on it. Likewise, if the Book of Mormon is also the Word of God, then there ought to be evidence for it that is similar to the type of evidence for the Bible. On the other hand, if it is not, then we should expect to not only find a lack of evidence supporting it, but we should also find evidence against it. This book is not intended to be an exhaustive study of Mormonism. Instead, it is hoped that it will not only convince readers of the overwhelming evidence that exists for the Bible being from God, but that it will also help anyone entering into an investigation of the Mormon religion to know what to look for and where. To all Mormons who might read this book I only ask that you give it the same benefit of doubt that you ask others to give to the Book of Mormon. Please do not pass judgment until you have read all of it.Brigham Young, the second Prophet of the church, not only asked us to investigate Mormonism, but also gave each of us a challenge.Take up the Bible, compare the religion of the Latter-Day-Saints with it, and see if it will stand the test.(Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol 16, p46,)This challenge needs to be addressed. I ask each reader to take a serious look at the religion of the Latter-Day-Saints and make a comparison to the Bible based on the evidence that will be presented in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up Mormon during America's early-1980s satanic panic, Bigelow escapes the religion's bland conformity by playing Dungeons & Dragons. After graduating from high school in 1984, he dives into sex, drugs, and the counterculture via Salt Lake City's punk and new-wave scenes, as echoed from London, New York, and especially Los Angeles. As Bigelow explores the underground, he rejects myths of supernatural good vs. evil, living instead by the D&D concept of chaotic neutrality. During LSD trips, however, he starts sensing an unseen dimension. Then Stephen King's post-apocalyptic novel The Stand gets him reconsidering good vs. evil. After an alarming otherworldly attack, can Bigelow find spiritual protection in Mormonism's processed, regimented, corporate culture?

Download or read book Leaving Mormonism written by Corey Miller and published by Kregel Academic. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing popular perception today is that the Mormon church as just another denomination within Christianity, and representatives of the LDS church often encourage this perspective. Despite points of agreement, major differences exist on foundational theological matters (for example, the Trinity), as well as social and moral issues (such as racial equality). As former Mormons turned evangelical Christians, each of whom is an accomplished scholar, the four contributors to this volume provide a unique and authoritative corrective. Each contributor shares his or her story of growing up in the Mormon church, and how biblical, theological, moral, or scientific issues forced them to eventually leave Mormonism. The contributors draw on the expertise of their respective academic fields to show how Mormon teachings and practice fall short biblically and rationally. They also address common objections raised by former Mormons who have lost faith altogether and have embraced atheism or agnosticism--especially under the influence of "new atheists" like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people are not aware of the wide divide that exists between Mormonism and Christianity. Members of the LDS Church are taught not to question the teachings of the church despite the leaders being instructed to manipulate the facts and hide the truth whenever it is deemed useful to do so. The Wide Divide is a comprehensive and chronological study of Mormonism rendered in a holistic rather than a topical approach. It covers the panorama of early Mormon history with a comprehensive analysis of its doctrine. The major premise of the book is, "Are Mormons Christian?" If you are a Mormon, it is very critical that you answer this question correctly before you meet Jesus in eternity. Please do so.

Book The Book of Mormon Girl

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joanna Brooks
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2012-08-07
  • ISBN : 1451699697
  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book The Book of Mormon Girl written by Joanna Brooks and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From her days of feeling like “a root beer among the Cokes”—Coca-Cola being a forbidden fruit for Mormon girls like her—Joanna Brooks always understood that being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints set her apart from others. But, in her eyes, that made her special; the devout LDS home she grew up in was filled with love, spirituality, and an emphasis on service. With Marie Osmond as her celebrity role model and plenty of Sunday School teachers to fill in the rest of the details, Joanna felt warmly embraced by the community that was such an integral part of her family. But as she grew older, Joanna began to wrestle with some tenets of her religion, including the Church’s stance on women’s rights and homosexuality. In 1993, when the Church excommunicated a group of feminists for speaking out about an LDS controversy, Joanna found herself searching for a way to live by the leadings of her heart and the faith she loved. The Book of Mormon Girl is a story about leaving behind the innocence of childhood belief and embracing the complications and heartbreaks that come to every adult life of faith. Joanna’s journey through her faith explores a side of the religion that is rarely put on display: its humanity, its tenderness, its humor, its internal struggles. In Joanna’s hands, the everyday experience of being a Mormon—without polygamy, without fundamentalism—unfolds in fascinating detail. With its revelations about a faith so often misunderstood and characterized by secrecy, The Book of Mormon Girl is a welcome advocate and necessary guide.
