Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism Against Itself In the winter of 1904-1905, I made the acquaintance of a very estimable man in character, and who was at that time a member of and elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which organization has its headquarters at Lamoni, Iowa. This elder, Mr. M. R. Scott, Jr., of Wirt, Ind., belonged to the Quorum of Seventy, and proved to be interested in the discovery of the truth at whatever cost. The result of our conference led him to make an investigation along some lines indicated by me, which investigation led him ultimately to a change of church affiliation. The formal step of renouncing his former relationship and accepting the new, was taken on the sixth day of April, 1905, on which date the conference of his former people was in session. Although he had not attended this conference, he was nevertheless, as in former years, assigned a field of labor, which work, because of his change in church relationship, he was, of course, disqualified to accept. Soon after this, the exact date is not known, but I believe it was in the early part of May of that year, Elder Columbus Scott, a cousin of M. R. Scott, Jr., came from Lamoni, Iowa, presumably to remonstrate with, and, if possible, to reclaim, his apostate cousin, or, failing in this, to cut him off from the church. The sequel shows that he was not able to do the former, and, so far as my information goes, he has not attempted in a regular way to accomplish the latter. Book Mormonism Against Itself

Download or read book Mormonism Against Itself written by Raymond D. Moore and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2001-08-23 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is fascinating," is a comment often made by those reading this book, a product of years of scholarly research. This most valuable handbook meets a timely need, giving the Christian worker, or any interested person, material to refute Mormon claims. The reader, and Mormons themselves, may be amazed at the complete reversal of doctrine which the Mormon Church experienced between 1830 (when Joseph Smith brought out the Book of Mormon) and 1844 (when Joseph Smith was shot to death). Thus, the Mormon leaders, in many instances, contradicted themselves or their doctrine. I have included extensive quotations from original sources since many are rare and difficult to find. Forty-four subjects of interest are organized alphabetically in the heart of the book, making it a quick and easy tool for exposing errors and freeing Mormons from spiritual bondage. At the close of the book is a short section summarizing the basic truths of the Holy Bible, showing God's love and good news for all mankind as they believe and accept it. This is to help an earnest seeker to find eternal life, God's grace and forgiveness through our saviour Jesus Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Case Against Mormonism Anti-mormon Literature. - In almost any large public library one may discover several hundred books, large and small dealing with the general sub ject of Mormonism. A goodly percentage of such books are unfriendly criticisms of the system and its founder: almost none, even those written by scholars and men of attamment-such men usually try to be fair, and see both sides - even attempt to be favor able. The situation as regards the system known as Mormonism, its founder and people, is a curious one; and it is by no means doubtful that considerable injustice has been done all of them. Also, as a side issue, we may claim that the world has missed se quaintance with several highly significant facts, of interest in theology, sociology and economics, just be cause we have formed the evil habit of condemning the system under discussion and its adherents, without the formality of a fair trial. Book Mormonism and the Mormons

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism and the Mormons: A Historical View of the Rise and Progress of the Sect Self-Styled Latter-Day Saints It is due to the writer, no less than to the reader, that the circumstances which have called forth the present volume should be stated. On the 13th of Nov., 1840, I was at a place called Fulton City, on the upper waters of the Mississippi river, waiting for the descent of some steamboat in which I might take passage. About day-break the next morning a boat was hailed, and I went on board, The bustle of embarkation was hardly over before I learned that the boat was owned and principally manned by Mormons, being called Nauvoo. It moreover carried Joseph Smith, Jr., in the character of passenger; although in reality he was chief director of the whole concern. It appeared that among the multitudes drawn together at the Mormon settlements in the west, were a number of individuals more or less acquainted with navigation. In order that their talent might not be unemployed, Smith and his coadjutors had purchased a steamboat, and commenced running it on the river for purposes of speculation, and also doubtless with a view to accommodating their colony at Nauvoo. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism Unscriptural, Pagan and Immoral This book of Mormon is the greatest piece of absurd and blasphemous craftiness known in American writings. It is a bungling mixture of faulty chronology, bad geography, and worse language. Its very crude ness and inaccuracies' stamp it as an imposition, and show its vulgar and knavish origin. With this it may be dismissed from further consideration. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Tell It All

Download or read book Tell It All written by Mrs. T. B. H. Stenhouse and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tell It All: The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism In these pages, a woman, a wife and mother, speaks the sorrows and oppressions of which she has been the witness and the victim. It is because her sorrows and her oppressions are those of thousands, who, suffering like her, cannot or dare not speak for themselves, that she thus gives this history to the public. It is no sensational story, but a plain, unvarnished tale of truth, stranger and sadder than fiction. Our day has seen a glorious breaking of fetters. The slave-pens of the South have become a nightmare of the past; the auction-block and whipping-post have given place to the church and school-house; and the songs of emancipated millions are heard through our land. May we not then hope that the hour is come to loose the bonds of a cruel slavery whose chains have cut into the very hearts of thousands of our sisters - a slavery which debases and degrades womanhood, motherhood, and the family? Let every happy wife and mother who reads these lines give her their sympathy, prayers, and aid to free her sisters from this degrading bondage. Let all the womanhood of the country stand united for them. There is a power in combined enlightened sentiment and sympathy before which every form of injustice and cruelty must finally go down. May He who came to break every yoke hasten this deliverance! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
